Medehamstede Hotel

Perfect location, warm, comfortable room and bed. Breakfast was excellent, bar with entertainment was spot on. Staff were all very polite and helpful. Will stay here again.

Only slight issue was the hotel parking, not a problem as on street parking overnight till 10am.

Comfortable beds, fabulous showers with lots of hot water, 5min walk to the beach - what’s not to like?! We had a great stay and would definitely go back! One tip - the parking area is bigger than you initially think! We thought there was just one space at the back of the hotel, but the hotel extends further along covering more buildings than you realise and there is enough room for 6-7 cars ☺️

The location was easy enough to find, there's ample on site parking, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. It's situated a five minute walk from the waterfront tourist area (Shanklin Chine) which you can get to by foot, and for those who don't like steep hills you can take the cliff lift for a £2 return journey. There's lots of food options in the area but make reservations during the peak holiday period, else ways you might not get a table! Also the breakfast at the hotel was brilliant! Super duper tasty, but my wife kept nicking a bite of my hash brown every day which was all together cruel and unnecessary.

I can't speak for every room, but our room stank of feet and damp. It could've just been the previous guest was a smelly customer, but it put a sour note everytime we returned to the room. Also the shower was nice and warm for 3-4 minutes, and then suddenly spat out scolding hot water for a couple seconds and then freezing cold water and then back to normal. Perhaps someone upstairs flushed a loo and we got unlucky? Honestly these are small inconveniences given that we were paying £100 per night with free breakfast included. Can't complain really!

it was ideally situated, close to the cliff lift for the beach and a 5 minute walk to Shanklin village. Our room was spacious and had a side sea view.

There were quite a few steps up to our room and the room was in need of redecoration.

Staff are absolutely fantastic! Chelsea, Janice and James were all friendly, professional, and helpful during my stay. The breakfast was fantastic and the dining room very pleasant to eat in. I enjoyed my stay very much. Love the fact that there was a bar on site. Liked my room. I managed to get the last single room due to the bank holiday weekend, which was absolutely fine for my stay. When I return, I would get a twin or double.

This hotel was not our first choice but had to make a quick decision as was given a cancellation less than 36 hours before travel by previous hotel booking. We was originally booked into a hotel in Sandown. The Medhamsted hotel was quirky and in need of bringing a bit more up to date (as 1980's decor). I have to say the staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly and in the end the location was much better for us. 5 mins walk to beach and around 5-10 walk to main shops and old village. (Loads to do). Room was clean and a good size for 3 (2 adults & 6 year old), beds comfy. Bathroom a bit small but managed. We were booked in for 5 nights 3 of which were uncomfortable due to the heat as booked in over a mini heatwave. Was lucky in the end to be provided with an electric on second evening. We didn't go for breakfast so cannot comment there. Overall I'd say location wise a much better choice. Hotel quirky but I liked that, it had a charm to it. A lovely garden at the back but didn't have time to make the most of it.

Having to lug suitcases up and down 2 flights of steep stairs as no lift. (If you have a disability please ask for low level room).

Comfortable room. Friendly approachable staff who were always willing to help. A good range of options were offered for breakfast, including full English. There is a restaurant for evening meals. Near the beach and Shanklin Chine and shops. Very pretty picturesque location. Unsuite shower and bath in room.

There were no lifts, stairs only. They did however have rooms on ground level. We did not mind and it did not affect our stay. The WiFi was not very good.

The location is super! Stop of the Island Coaster bus service is in a few meters, central bus stop 5 minutes, the beach and the beautiful Shranklin Chine is in 10 minutes walk. The street itself is very quiet. The staff is kind, helpful and working hard,sometimes the restaurant is strongly understaffed. The whole hotel is rather old-fashioned, rather tired, but it has a charm :) I was given a free upgrade (I can't be more grateful to the gentleman at the reception) so I had a double room which was spaceous enough with enough space for the clothes, caffee and tea was free and there was even a bathtub in the bathroom. I particulary liked the bedsheets. The hotel seems to accomodate mostly coach tours, i saw only a few independent travelers. Overall I was really surprised and satisfied, regarding what I read about the hotel in the earlier reviews.

water pressure is rather weak on the second floor, sometimes it is rather uncomfortable with the toilet and the shower, but it can be managed. There are several minor things I could mention, but for this price - even coming from a different country with different habits and expectations- you couldn't expect more.

Attentive and friendly staff, the guy at reception was great. He seemed to be there whole time, does he work 24/7?

Room was basic and bit dated. TV mounted on wall was too high to watch while sitting or lying on bed. Cleanliness was bit questionable to say, I found an old and outdated Covid testing kit box tucked behind a bin in corner. Bizarre. Breakfast was generally good, but no buffet - I was served each portion straight from kitchen (I suppose it’s more economical way of doing things from their perspective)

The breakfast was good. The only issue was there were no mushrooms! It was served at the table rather than a buffet which we liked.

All the stairs! They were quite steep and not great for lugging suitcases up! No lift unfortunately. Also we had to be down at breakfast by 9.00 which seemed a bit early when you're on holiday.
