The Clifton

The breakfast choice was excellent and the hot food was cooked perfectly, not overcooked or dried out as at some hotel establishments. The room was spacious and clean with good ventilation in what was the hottest week of the year. The range of restaurants were only a short five minute walk away for the evenings if you didn't want to eat in, but it is necessary to book in advance.

As far as the hotel and staff were concerned, they were excellent, there was nothing we didn't like. We have already booked again for next year.

Location and surroundings are excellent - easy walk to village and beach (with options for test of knees and stamina if you wish!) Peace and quiet with very comfortable beds and lounge areas. Garden is excellently designed and maintained. We had a balcony room and the view on a sunny morning was spectacular. The staff are all friendly and helpful without being suffocating. The hotel is not cheap, but if you value having a peaceful and pleasant retreat with lovely views this is it!

Location great. Breakfast good but needed breakfast rolls with the continental choice. Breakfast staff were pleasant and efficient

Breakfast rolls with the continental buffet would have been great. Felt there was too much fruit and yogurt and no bread available. Insulated coffee pot to keep coffee hot for longer .Would have liked the option to turn on the radiator and towel rail if needed to in the bedroom.

Good buffet with choice of fruit and cereals. Wide range of cooked breakfast choices to order. Sometimes took a little while. The coffee was never really hot. It would be much hotter if the pots were warm to start with. A beautiful garden very well kept and stocked. Drinks and snacks also available all day in the sea facing garden.

We were not so impressed with the fixed times for breakfast. We could understand that it made the order flow in the kitchen easier to handle but there did not seem to be much flexibility. The cosy Sea View room was very cosy with very little draw space. Fantastic view of course.

The clifton was amazing such a beautiful place to stay on our arrival Dennis was brilliant very welcoming and informative even a little history about the family's that lived here years ago, literally the only constructive criticism I would give is that the shower head needed changing as was a little slow but the shower does fit 2 so a brilliant place for romantic get away, you are literally a stone throw away from a whole beech Town just below the property as its on top of the beech cliff, so many beautiful interesting things to see and do and some of the restaurants were amazing there are many hills and many stairs to the beech but don't worry if like me you have trouble with walking there is a lift that you can pay to go up and down in but honestly try the walk down it's so beautiful with the attraction of shanklin chyn on the way down plus 2 pubs to stop for drinks, the view are to die for could not be happier thankyou so much we made memories we will treasure forever

Shower head needs changing but other than that it was perfect

The breakfast was amazing a great choice of menu and well cooked too plus all the other bits could not fault it. All staff and management were polite and helpful at all times ,my wife and I had a great week thank you see you next year.

The stairs but that’s just me. I have booked for next year two floors below.

The location is great, most of the staff was extremely helpful and competent, they make you feel like you are visiting their home, which is a great feeling.

the breakfast, it needs a lot of improvement. The cooked breakfast was not good at all and the options on the buffet were lacking, the yogurt is full of sugar, the fruit is not appealing unless you like melon, and the rest is mainly dried fruit.

Superb location, wonderful sea views. Sunny aspect. The breakfasts were excellent with plenty of choice and plenty of fresh fruit and other ingredients. But what makes this hotel rather special is the staff and the overall ambience that they create. They were helpful, discreet, always available for advice and always cheerful.

loved the feel of the hotel! felt very cozy, felt well looked after! Man who checked us in was very friendly and helpful with the area. Great breakfast selection!

Hot water in the showers wasn’t so hot unfortunately and the waitress who served us breakfast on our final day was very sick, didn’t look interested in being at work, and was constantly sniffing and coughing while being in the dining area. At such sensitive times still, it was just a sad way to end the trip as we’d loved everything else about our stay!

The location is fantastic, the room is relatively spacious and very clean. The breakfast was great. There is a good sea view from its back garden and easy access to the coastal walking path. Easy access to a series of excellent restaurants. It has a nice lobby and a great conservatory to enjoy the view or sunshine.

I cannot really put my finger on anything. The building is old and some of the facilities are noisy and in need of repair.
