Breakfasts comprised fresh fruits and choice of yoghurts. The cooked breakfast in addition was an excellent menu and served quickly and thus always hot and with good helpings. The evening meals were again from a wide choice menu with some changes during the week. No need to dine out as this was cooking of a high and consistant standard. Staff were very welcoming and a credit to their hands-on proprietors. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel displays much original artwork which is all available for sale; variety of techniques both as to painting and small/medium bronzes. All adds to a welcoming ambience,

Whilst there is lots of outdoor seating either on the lawn or under an extensive marquee (both to the rear) the inside lounge seating area is rather on the small side. If the weather had been wet might have been more of an issue but did not materially affect our stay.

Lovely countryside pub. Great size room with a long mirror, dressing table, hanging space and tea station. Powerful shower in the bathroom with fluffy towels and dressing gowns! Parking is over the road, make sure you're aware of this when arriving in the dark as it's a little confusing. I had dinner in the restaurant the evening I stayed and it was delicious.

The bathroom is a wet room so the floor does get quite wet making it hard to use post-shower. This is a really small detail and it definitely shouldn't put travellers off.

Good breakfast choices, have as much or as little as you wanted, very good evening meals with lots of choice and selection of wines. Real ale at the bar as well. Great location for having a look around the Somerset / Dorset area as we are looking to relocate to the area. Very friendly and helpful staff. Would be a great venue for a big celebration.

The only down side might be that the hotel car park was on the other side of the road to the hotel which meant a bit of a walk to the front door and it just happened to rain when we got there! Good sized car park though.

The hotel is about 10 mins from the centre of Sherborne, lovely village location. The welcome we received (Adam) was exceptional! All the team are super friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We had dinner at the hotel which was wonderful!

If I had one moan it would be about the breakfast, the choice is quite limited and we felt that pastries would have been a nice addition, there was no music on in the background so you did feel you couldnt talk very loudly! It was just a bit disappointing as our dinner experience was so good.

The host and hostess and staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel occupied a good location in the village. The food in the restaurant was excellent, but it was closed on two of our six nights owing to staff shortages.

The room was rather cramped for two.

The breakfast was good, I would not say it was exceptional (which is what was listed in the booking). Yet the evening meal was excellent and I would certainly recommend the place again. With regards to the room, again good, but having seen other accomodations in the area for the same price, a little disappointing, hence my comment of only good.

My room was on the front and quite close to a busy road. So you had to go to bed late if you wanted a reasonable nights sleep. Too early and you would be kept awake by the traffic. Also, lighting outside the premises was poor, on the night of the 9th September, several people made the comment about the lighting outside. It was as if there had been a power cut, so perhaps the hotel could explain that one.

Breakfasts were excellent, wide choice and freshly cooked.. The scrambled eggs in particular, were very good. Customer service was great, epitomised by the fact that the owner, Tony, took us himself to an appointment at a nearby village when the taxi we had booked failed to turn up. The young waiting staff were friendly without being too casual. The white towels were super absorbent.

We were in the room with the disabled access bathroom. I think it is wonderful that the hotel provides this facility, but regulations decree a very small washbasin at quite a low level, making it harder for us. But this is a very minor quibble

The staff were great especially the owner and the lady who assists him in managing. The restaurant food and breakfasts were very good and was happy wed booked 2 dinners there. Having a room right above the marquee dining area I was worried there might be noise at bed time but it was not a problem.

The only things I think could have been improved were the comfort of the bed in Room 9 and reducing the light coming in over the top of the curtains in the morning. The mattress on the bed was very soft and meant I struggled to sleep. Also although the curtains were nice and thick there was a big gap over the top of them where the 5am sunrise came through. My wife had to use her shawl and the bed footer to try to reduce the light. All the other aspects of our stay were great.

Lovely country hotel. Comfortable room, good quality bedding and a decent shower. Staff were friendly and obliging, any requests were responded to quickly.

A minor quibble. The television was rather small and too distant for our aging eyes.

Location as quite remote from anywhere but lovely village, friendly staff, lovely little hidden gem. Room was cosy but comfy. Bed a little too soft but not a problem. Bed wasn’t made each day by housekeeping but to be honest it wasn’t an issue. Fantastic food although not a lot of choice but we did eat out too. I would recommend this love,y country pub hotel to anyone visiting or passing by.

A little more variety on the menu but it really wasn’t an issue. Maybe a snack menu as well as the main menu
