Holiday Inn Express Southampton - M27, J7, an IHG Hotel

Convenient location. Breakfast was buffet style but very good.

Great selection on offer at Breakfast - and Breakfast was included, fantastic! Some items on the menu were available all day, which was good, and the evening menu was quite varied so even a 'picky' eater like me could find something tasty to eat. This was a short-notice booking so my room (35) wasn't as good as last time (118) but perfectly adequate and was nice and clean, but it was very dark due to the tall trees outside and the standard in-room lighting wasn't up to the job. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel itself is really nice, modern and light. I like the pretty trees in the car park, a type of Birch I think, looking at the leaves, with beautiful white bark.

Hardly important but the music in the lobby was too loud, I couldn't hear to make phone calls!

Breakfast excellent (free too!), food throughout the day and evening good but choice a bit limited until I found I could order from the kids' menu as well, such helpful staff at the bar and taking food orders. Room really nice, specious,.shower fab, heating worked when we had a cold, wet day, comfortable chair and table which could be moved if wanted. All in all a very nice hotel at a reasonable price, good design, modern but comfortable - will be staying there again!

Not really a problem but there were a few dark stains on the carpet in my room which I'm sure they will fix when time allows.

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the years & this time I could not fault a thing. On arrival I requested my sister & I had twin beds. We could have shared but it was very hot & I have been recovering from a gynae OP & staff especially Dominic were very helpful in doing that.

There was only one thing. I usually book in about 2ish. I or my family usually spend the day with relatives. Parking is becoming increasingly difficult. The security man at the gate when I came back last night pointed where we could park. Due to still be recovering it was quite a way & I had spent enough time on my feet. However, he said if I could find somewhere I could do that. I did but was not totally happy leaving car where I did. I mentioned inside where I had parked & Dominic found me a place. He was a very pleasant, kind man. Because of various family situations I cannot always stay with relatives so rely on your hotel. This time staff made it worthwhile.

The hotel was fantastic lovely and clean staff very friendly. Good selection for breakfast and plenty of it.

The car parking was asked to move my car from its original spot because of the proximity to the entrance. My partner who walks with a stick did struggle with the extra distance. Having move my car to a place I was told I could park I went to my room for a nap after a long drive down only to be woken by the front desk asking me to move my car again. Went down to the car park. The attendant ask me to park the car in what I thought would be a dangerous position as you have a sign up your not libel for damage to cars in the car park. Told him I wasn't prepared to move it . He wasn't best pleased with my response

This hotel was very convenient for the Ageas Bowl (cricket) - not one of your options in the bonus question above (we went to the cricket) and the M27 (we were picking up relatives the following morning). The room wasn't huge, but the lay out was very good - like the hairdryer next to the long mirror (few hotels get this one right). Bar menu (it is a bar rather than a restaurant) was fine, served quickly and with a smile.

This hotel is also convenient for Southampton Airport, the Cruise port and the city - so the hotel and car park were very full and there were lots of small children and dogs (clearly the hotel is dog friendly) - we hope that the hotel keeps the rooms allowing dogs separate (we didn't find any evidence of previous dogs in our room - that would have crashed the review).

Everything went extremely well. The staff, food, drink, cleanliness of public areas, cleanliness of rooms and overall condition/ decoration of the hotel was excellent.

There are just a couple of things that could have made my stay a little more enjoyable. (1) a pool table as there wasn't much to do to pass the time in the evening after my evening meal (2) The AC in the room didn't cool the room down - it acted like an ordinary air recirculation fan and a little more attention to the car park lighting - a large number of lights wasn't working leaving large areas poorly lit.

The room was spacious and accessible and the beds, very comfortable. The room and bathroom were spotless and had all the facilities needed The staff - Rachel, Harvey, both Dominics, Holly, and Cameron were friendly and their service was exceptional. The location was convenient for both Portsmouth and Southampton It was a very busy Holiday week end so although the carparks were busy, the hotel room was very quiet

Although the breakfast was good, the service space was cramped and difficult to access without help The evening food was very basic and processed.

It's a great location. We were staying in Southampton the night before we set sail on a cruise. We had left a toothbrush at home and were given a complimentary one. The room was spotlessly clean and staff very helpful and friendly. The shower was hot and powerful. Towels are a good size. There was a security guard patrolling the car park. Excellent breakfast in the morning, included in the price of the room. Our room overlooked the carpark and we could see our car.

The bed was only a double, and we are used to a larger bed. That was more about our preference and no reflection on the hotel. We would certainly stay again.

Breakfast had an incredible and abundant selection. The staff were INCREDIBLY friendly, had high standards of customer service and catered each interaction to each customer. They were respectful, kind, funny, attentive and went above and beyond to make our stay special. I can't talk about it enough. Me and my fiancée are both autistic, we enjoy doing the kids worksheets/activity pages. I approached to take one, and the gentleman behind the bar made me feel so comfortable and encouraged it. (I' disappointed Ive forgotten his name!) He was so amazing - he went to print off a previous worksheet from the years before and provided us with his own pens. I couldn't get over his kindness and how considerate he was. I don't believe we mentioned our autism but he was just so approachable and the hotel generally provided a safe space for us as an openly queer couple. We even mentioned our 5 year anniversary in the booking notes and got the room filled with balloons; little heart shaped decorations on the bed, a touching note and a complimentary bottle of wine. We were overjoyed with the service we recieved. Gemma was very attentive - I am disabled and experience chronic pain on the daily. I was almost immobile and couldn't get out of the chairs due to crippling back pain and she was sympathetic, kind and even helped organise a taxi for us. Aside from the exceptional staff, we really enjoyed the salt and pepper squid starter too😂 Thank you everyone at the Holiday Inn for being accessible, kind, amazing with your hospitality and creating a safe space for us, you made our 5 year anniversary so special. It really gives us hope for the future - we will literally come back to Southampton purely to stay there again.

The walk to the disabled room was a little far for me, but genuinely that's the only thing I could think of. Thats understandable for a disabled person though lol! I know if I had said long distances are an issue they would've happily given me something closer, so if that sounds like you, definitely let them know :)
