the breakfast was ideal as you could eat as much or as little as you like. It was well cooked and the choice was good for both a full English or continental. The room overlooked the main road and the view to the sea was good. The distance from the sea front was not too far and could easily be walked. The hotel does not have a restaurant for lunch or dinner but nearby are many pubs and restaurants for them. We would stay there again and would recommend the hotel to anyone unless you need a lift as the hotel does not have one. The hotel is built from local stone and is traditional.

The area where the hotel is hilly including the car park but its only a problem if hills cause people problems. Otherwise the hotel is great.

the hotel was beautiful with lots of original features. We upgraded to a room with a four poster bed that was very comfortable so we had an excellent nights sleep. The hotel has a traditional bar and huge fireplaces. There are also the old bells for calling the servants. If you liked Upstairs, Downstairs or Downton Abbey you’ll like this place. Breakfast was served in the conservatory and they had plenty of dietary requirements on offer including gluten free food. They will also provide dairy free alternatives if you let them know in advance. All the staff were very pleasant, friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting a comfortable stay in a gorgeous Victorian home.

This is a lovely old stone, almost castle like house with masses of historical character and a novel layout. Our room at the top had excellent views across the bay, probably the best of all the rooms. The beds were very comfortable, the breakfast very satisfying and the staff were all very friendly.

The old character of the house meant that there were lots of stairs with no lift. Upper floors would not be accessible to disabled people although the lodge probably would have been. The carpark was also uphill.

View was spectacular. Bed very comfortable. Bathroom clean and spacious. Location good. Breakfast very tasty. Beautiful building and the gardens were a treat.

The lack of a lift for the luggage or ourselves to the 2nd floor was a daily torture which left us both feeling unwell. Coupled with the extreme heat that week resulted in our holiday being marred. I understand that the property is a listed building - hence any type of lift being a non starter.

Beautiful old building with lovely features still kept in place plus it was lovely and warm which was a bonus for the time.of year we stayed. Breakfast couldn't be faulted, everything available and freshly cooked.

Beautiful old building but rooms didnt seem to match, seemed very 80s decor and curtains way to short for window for some reason. Sometimes old places have a tendency to rest on there laurels I think. Bar had only 2.beers on tap, so not full selection. Bathroom definitely needed updating and don't think cleanliness was a 100%

The main Purbeck House building is a very well preserved Victorian mansion with extraordinary mosaic floors, beautiful ceilings, stained glass and original woodwork. In our room the plumbing was pretty Victorian too, with very low water pressure, but this did not detract from a quintessentially British experience.

The service was very good and cheerful at breakfast, but the coffee arrangements were a bit hard work, with small cups and busy staff when you wanted a refill. The cooked breakfast buffet was a bit primitive, particularly the fried eggs. I would have preferred to order what I wanted. Good selection of cereals, yoghourt, fruit salad etc.

The Purbeck House Hotel has a really interesting history with lots of lovely architectural details. All the staff are happy to tell you about the house if you show an interest. We had a huge room with panoramic views of Swanage. We had far-reaching views of the sea and the bay, the hills, the pretty high street lit up with coloured lights at night. You can also just see the lovely gardens round the back. The bedroom was furnished with old stripped pine. Number 18 if you are interested. Bit of a climb to the second floor (no lift) but it's worth it. Good selection of food for breakfast and lovely staff. Also in a great location for the shops, bars, cafes and restaurants and minutes from the beach. Just a short walk up to the top of the High Street.

The loo paper was very thin. Sorry.

Loved the location; car parking and gorgeous gardens. There was a good variety of breakfast choices available too. I loved the history and quirkiness of the hotel. I got my date of leaving mixed up, and they had another single room available and helped me move my luggage!

Nothing not to like. It is a shame that they don't have a restaurant for evening meals, but as it wasn't viable, quite understandable why they could not provide it.

Very friendly and efficient check in (and out). Unusually grand surroundings with a rich history of use. Relaxing garden complete with fish pond fountain: just right for the heatwave we experienced. Excellent breakfast with a variety of quality options. Very close to everything in the town yet extremely quiet. Highly recommended!

The price we paid seemed quite high for a hotel with the facilities offered (e.g. no pool) and there wasn't much 'atmosphere' as most guests seemed to use it as a quiet base, with no obvious gatherings to liven up proceedings, but that is not something the hotel can do anything about.
