It’s a lovely old quirky building. We stayed on the second floor in the last room at the end of a long corridor winding around a courtyard at the rear. Walking along the corridor we had to pass through several fire doors and up and down several sets of steps to get to our room. For us this only added to the experience of staying in an older building. The decor and furniture are a bit dated, but the whole building was very clean and the beds very comfortable. All the staff that we interacted with were very helpful and friendly making us feel most welcome. Overall I would say it’s great value for money and if we’re up that way again we would definitely stay there again. Almost forgot, not only do you get Wi-Fi, it actually works very well, and breakfast was top notch too.

If I had to find a negative, the lift was out of order whilst we were there but that didn’t affect us in any way. Also I think for the size of the hotel there could be more parking spaces, only two vacant spaces when we arrived, but like I’ve said above we would definitely come again.

It was a spacious and clean family room with separate beds for children. Tasty food available for dinner and breakfast. The car park was also available on site, even though the hotel is located by the main road. The bonus was a short walking distance to the seaside with a beautiful beach. The staff were friendly and welcoming.

Even though the room was clean, the corridors would need a bit more attention. The lift was not working. The back door access from rear car park may need some better signage and tidying up, as it was a confusing to walk along corridors before reaching reception desk.

They have the kindest most helpful hard working and friendly staff I've encountered in my travels. The place is receiving the attention it needs to make it more modern without losing its charm, it has a new owner, new staff in training, the food is nice, the place is big and it has a bar. The room has good curtains for the windows keeping the room dark in the summer, which for me is essential. I'd very much like to stay there again and I recommend the stay.

It needs a better kettle and a better TV.

Our room (a family room facing the street) was absolutely beautiful, very spacious, with a wall-full of huge windows letting in lots of light. It was tastefully decorated, clean, with comfortable beds, all the furniture looked new, the room looked recently painted, the dinner and breakfast were excellent, the staff friendly. It was handy having parking facilities. The pictures on Booking.com don’t do it justice. We were expecting it to be run-down and a bit shabby, but although it’s an older building, it’s well taken care of and clean, and quite charming. Bigger than expected.

The old-fashioned bathroom sink (hot and cold water coming out of separate taps) took some getting used to but was part of the charm of the room.

The hotel whilst looking a bit tired in certain areas, oozes a feeling of history and standing in the reception area was like stepping back in time but in a very good way. Free available parking in the hotel courtyard and a big Scottish welcome in reception after a near 500 mile drive. The Invictus Bar was clean, modern and offered a warm welcome. Being a big fan of Scottish football the pictures and memorabilia on the wall alone kept me occupied for a long time. The single room was relatively large with a comfy bed, cable tv and large bathroom with red hot shower.

There was nothing not to like at this price point.

The room was very clean, the staff were excellent. Our waitress was lovely and the gentleman on reception could not have been more helpful. The food was excellent and great value for money. The menu had a nice choice and the kids menu gave our family a wee laugh. Nicely put together. Would definitely visit again if up North.

The hotel room was a little dated but very clean and comfortable. The dining room was very pleasant, with comfortable chairs and a nice atmosphere.

Friendly helpful staff. Unfortunately the elevator wasn't working (new owners have recently taken over and awaiting someone from down south to venture up to Thurso) and my husband can't do stairs. The family room was up quite a few stairs but was a lovely room so we were in a quandary as he couldn't get to the room. The fellow was great and we ended up with 2 rooms on lower floor. They were smaller but comfortable. Thanks heaps. We are from Australia and travelling around and it was great for someone to take the time to accommodate us.

All staff were very pleasant and helpful. The rooms were very clean. Room snacks and refreshments were appreciated. Breakfasts were fine, tasty cooked breakfasts. One staff member used his initiative and contacted the taxi company I had made a booking with, following a late arrival. Following a request of a change of room, if this was possible, I was provided with this much to my satisfaction and appreciation.

I didn't like my first room....when I attempted to get to sleep @ 23:00. The noise of the traffic was unbelievable.

Hotel is impressive...can imagine it in victorian times. Friendly reception and night staff and lovely waitresses. View from my bedroom to flowerbed below just lovely. Bed comfy and room clean and bathroom spotless. B reakfast served to your table (which in the era of lukewarm buffets was incredible!) Thurso accents are FAB!

No complaints whatsoever....room slightly dated but I expected that from very very reasonable price.
