Holiday Inn York, an IHG Hotel

Staff are friendly and always happy to help. Restraunt food was lovely and deffinitely worth paying extea for breakfast!, parking is plenty sitting in lush grounds and location ideal for somewhere quite to stay with good transport network to York and other local towns. Bus 4 comes past hotel every 20 mins, easy use of 1st bus app too. Lovely pubs across the road and very both staff and locals very accommodating to guests. Also a great chippy 2 mins walk away.

Daily room cleaning not overly impressed. Room was never vacuumed during our entire stay and was looking grubby by the end of the week. We had to ask for replacement towels and toilet roll on more than one occasion as they weren't always replaced. I would definitely recommend though, we had a lovely, comfortable stay and made to feel welcome by staff. Good value for the cost.

Excellent location with easy access to the city centre by bus - there is a stop just a short distance away. We had 4 nights here and it ranks amongst one of the friendliest hotels we have ever stayed in. ALL the staff were cheerful, friendly and helpful; in fact nothing was too much of a problem. We did have a couple of problems but they were sorted immediately. We stayed in a very quiet room which was very spacious and clean with an additional pull out sofa bed. The view over the side car park wasn't great but having said that we didn't spend all the time looking out of the window!! The hotel has plenty of free surface parking spaces - just register your vehicle registration at reception. Breakfast was included in our booking and the choices were excellent including juices and cereals, fresh fruit salad as well as grapefruit segments & prunes, yoghurts, bread & pastries as well as the usual full cooked options and of course tea/coffee. Supplies were plentiful as the staff were continually restocking when items ran out. Table were also cleared away quickly once customers had left. We opted to eat in the hotel restaurant one evening. The menu had plenty of choices at reasonable cost and the food was piping hot and on hot plates!!

I had to visit reception at one point and had to wait quite a while to be attended to as at that particular time there was a queue for checking in due to there being only one receptionist. However, my issue was dealt with immediately.

The breakfast was good with lots of choices and the evening meal was also good. The location was excellent with easy public transport access into York. The free parking and WiFi were also good.

The terrace was always dirty with rubbish and cigarette ends every where as the ashtrays were inadequate and always full in addition to this the wooden tables were not cleaned regularly so were always dirty and sticky. Whilst we realise it is the smoking area it could have been maintained far more efficiently as we always had to ask for the table to be cleaned.

Good breakfast in a nice setting with a view to the gardens. Room well appointed with excellent climate control. Comfortable bed. Very quiet room.

The bathroom is far too small. In the room design, 12 inches could have been taken away from the bedroom in favor of giving that extra space to the bathroom. I hate the showers that are only half enclosed. It is drafty while you are showering and water goes all over the floor. In every hotel I have ever stayed in that has a half shower enclosure, the bathroom door is being ruined by water splash up and it is unsightly becomes an expensive repair. Whatever money the hotel thinks is being saved by only having half a shower enclosure is certainly negated by the cost of repairing the doors.

Good location for driving into York or leave car in car park and get a cab. The car park at hotel is big, we didn't have problems parking up each night. Bar and restaurant team very friendly and the food arrived fresh, tasty and still hot. Enough breakfast choices for all. Room was good size and nice fluffy towels not starched into an inch of their lives. If driving into York, you are on railway station side of river Ouse and good parking options.

We had the tiniest bathroom we've ever seen. It required a shimmy in sideways, past door and then close door to get in to shower. You had to be agile!

The staff were exceptional. There was an issue with dinner, Owen not only made it his personal mission to make sure we were looked after, but is a great lad and lovely to talk too! 2 other staff members really stood out. Harry behind the bar making drinks to a specific order, again a really pleasant lad. And Nicole. Working so late on a Saturday night and up early for the breakfast rush. It really makes all the difference when there's genuine people about when we have a newborn and a 7 year old.

Unfortunately there were a couple minor issues. The online check in, doesn't work. Damages in the bedroom (bathroom door) looks as though it had been battered in. After paying my tab on the evening the system hadn't updated by morning, leaving a nearly embarrassing and awkward encounter when checking out.( Not the staff's fault) Lastly the main meal... 8oz sirloin steak. The jacket potato looked like a boily potato, it was that small. And the steak was so unsatisfactory I was near speachless. As mentioned before this was rectified by Owen.

Lovely welcome from staff at reception. Large, comfortable room with super size bed. The ensuite was well appointed and we made use of the small fridge - that's a very handy addition, especially for keeping water and drinks cool.

Was surprised at having to deposit £250.00 to cover any extra expenses. Luckily we had that in our account. We didnt realise the cash would actually be taken - we thought it would be held in abeyance and taken only if there were bills to pay. It took quite some time to be refunded to our account.

Friendly staff and had a lovely meal in the evening. We normally stay at the York Marriott (we’ve been coming to York races for my dads birthday for years & just started using the Marriott) but since their refurb they only allow 2 night stays at weekends. I thought we’d try the holiday inn and was pleasantly surprised. Had a lovely stay, nice rooms (there were 2 pairs of father & son as my b-in-law also came with my nephew), and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. We will be coming back next year & staying with you.

Nothing, it was excellent

I had no concerns except we went in the bar for an evening meal on New Years Eve the menu was quite sparse as alot of the meats had not been ordered for restaurant. we did have a lovely pizza so at least we could have something to eat without going outdoors. The room was adequate had toiletries, hairdryer, iron, ironing board, free wifi, tea, coffee making facilities, waste bins in bathroom and room area. Clean fresh towels, opening windows. Breakfast we enjoyed excellent, plenty of food, fresh, hot, staff very pleasant, helpful, due to us having a pet dog with us we ate in the bar area we were not allowed into the restaurant which is totally understandable, all areas very clean. Hotel within walking distance to York town centre or public transport if required. very near to york racecourse, nice walks nearby, within 10 miles some wonderful scenic villages also.

More choices on the menu in the Bar/ Restaurant when we went. The pillows were very soft and flattened when you laid your head on them, no more available in the room. I could have asked the staff for some more so it is not really a negative.

Hotel was excellent staff were friendly room and hotel was very clean restaurant breakfast area was large and comfortable and choice of food was excellent - there is a bus stop opposite the hotel next to the cross keys pub with various buses that will take you into York for £2 and the same coming back with bus stops right outside the hotel and 50 yrds from the hotel - journey into York no more than 5 minutes - could not fault anything and great value for money would definitely recommend and go again ourselves when visiting York - Steve and Donna Hunt
