The Grand, York

the staff were particularly outstanding and very very nice and genuinely happy in their roles . you could see it and it was GENUINE happy nice very welcoming people . gorgeous very Spartan spacious property just loved it we want to go again . location to train station was sublime it was like 5 minutes walk and just ticked every box for us . a grand stay at the grand hotel it was indeed . Eslam on reception was very nice and smiley and helpful he clearly loves his job and he was good fun too when I asked him something jokingly he had oozes of personality and the hotel was just brilliant . we also had the cream tea there before leaving to get our train back home Thankyou to all for making it so great for us . we will be back for sure 😊

zero. it’s was hugely interesting building in architecture and inside it was beyond amazing , seriously I’d strongly recommend this amazing hotel to anyone that’s looking for the ultimate in a hotel 🏨

We loved our stay at The Grand! The room was very large and comfortable, the spa facilities are lovely and, most of all, we were delighted with the service we received from every staff member we encountered. The breakfast and the drinks we had at the bar and on the terrace were both lovely. This is a great hotel - welcoming, comfortable and really well located. It's our go-to place to stay whenever we're in York!

Perfect location and hotel interior a beautiful mix of old and new. On arrival greeted by very friendly and respectful conscierge and check in receptionist which was a positive start to our overnight stay. Spa area was lovely too with pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room with helpful staff. We opted for a room in the more modern part of the hotel and we couldn’t have been more delighted. . Lounge area had a very relaxing ambience with very comfy chairs where we had a lovely cocktail and again staff were very attentive and friendly. We look forward to returning.

Perfect from the very first welcome! The staff were friendly and very efficient. Check in was speedy. Our room was in the new extension and was spacious and very well presented. The queen-sized bed was the best bed I've ever slept in.

Breakfast was a buffet but I would have preferred the full English to have been cooked to order. The bacon was dry and inedible, but the sausages were excellent.

An historic hotel just a few minutes' walk from the train station and ideally located at the edge of the Old Town. The gentlemen who greeted us at the front door were warm and welcoming. The main hall and public rooms match the historic nature of the building; the bedroom wing is a bit dated and non-descript. However, our room was large, immaculate and well-appointed, with a wall of windows overlooking the city. The bed was comfortable, especially after finding a softer pillow in the closet. The bar downstairs offered reasonably priced drinks and light sandwiches. Best of all was the location. Steps leading to the top of the ancient city walls were just across the street. It was a short walk to York Minster, a number of restaurants (Rustique was our favorite.) and all the major attractions of the City Center. No taxi needed! Great value for money.

The minute we pulled up outside The Grand the doorman, Ian, was there to greet us, take our luggage and arrange to park the car. Throughout our stay Ians knowledge of York was second to none. A definite asset to the company. The staff on reception were a pleasure to deal with and had us checked in with ease. Our room was stunning. A large bathroom with bath and walk in shower. Dining was all you could wish for. Great menu with plenty of choice. We were there for our wedding anniversary and a card was waiting for us on our table. So thoughtful.

There is literally nothing bad to say about our experience at The Grand. A return trip is definitely on the cards.

Really beautiful property, the rooms are incredibly spacious and the way it showcases it’s facilities as you enter the room is really impressive. Lovely bathrooms and really all the facilities you could think of. Wonderful and friendly concierge Rob gave a great first impression of the hotel. The staff were very thoughtful and left a very kind card in the room for our anniversary. Incredible food with the room service, amazingly fresh. Best food and soundproofing I’ve ever experienced at a hotel, I slept so well. Very responsive and helpful front desk and all questions sent via app answered promptly and fully. Special thanks to Chloe for all her speedy and helpful answers.

A bit pricey and the location is just slightly awkward if you’re someone who goes in and out a lot. Not very aesthetic on the outside. The staff clearly have extremely high standards they have to adhere to and it can feel a bit formal and stiff for me rather than friendly - this isn’t a slight on the amazing staff mind you. Having to prebook the spa treatments so far in advance (~ a month) is a bit of a pain — I think potentially the hotel is better thought of as a spa and restaurant with a hotel attached. I’d definitely come back as it’s a wonderful place and I highly recommend it, but with this in mind.

Beautiful property inside and out, super location - just a short walk from the station, next to one of the ancient wall openings and city centre. Staff and facilities were exceptional and standard room was extremely spacious!

As it was school holidays the pool facilities were used by children throughout most of the day, and children during our visit used the facilities like a leisure centre (bombing/ throwing things to the bottom to collect etc) with little concern of other guests. Difficult for the staff to manage as parents were watching on with little regard for other guests. We booked an ‘adults only’ slot but there were teens ‘bombing’ into the pool which again made using the facilities less relaxing than I’m sure they usually are.

The staff were very friendly and made our stay for our honeymoon so special❤️ they left lovely chocolates and a card in our room. Breakfast was amazing and set us up for the day. Spa facilities were lovely. Our room was spacious and clean. Nothing was too much trouble. We were sad to leave l, but we will be back for our anniversary.

Although the spa facilities were excellent, the robes in our room were too small for me. When I rang to ask housekeeping, XL was the largest size there was,, so in order to go for treatments and use the pool, I had to wrap a towel round my waist and then put my robe on over the top so I was covered. To be more inclusive, it might be an idea to have some larger sizes so that your guests are comfortable and not feeling self-conscious about walking about the hotel to the spa.
