Novotel York Centre

Room was clean and comfortable, with plenty of amenities. Bar and restaurant on site were excellent and the location of the hotel was within walking distance of most of York’s tourist attractions. Reception, restaurant, bar and cleaning staff were very friendly! Good value for money for the room. Car park also had plenty of space and was a lot cheaper than other nearby options by a significant margin. Would certainly consider staying here again if we returned to York.

The room safe did not work upon arrival and despite two requests from reception staff to maintenance, this was never fixed for the duration of our stay meaning valuables could not be safely stored. Our room only had a small window also, meaning it was very difficult to get natural light into the room but this is did not significantly affect our stay. Breakfast was on the expensive side for what was offered.

Very friendly helpful staff at check in and at breakfast, clean comfortable room, cot bed and a sofa bed made up for our older child which was lovely, huge TV and plenty of tea and coffee and milk provided. Clean room and plenty of towels. Excellent breakfast options, cooked breakfast and lots of fruit cereal bread pastries etc with condiments. Felt very comfortable but also a nice treat to stay and York Centre only a few min walk. Only took a taxi once back from railway museum as it was a bit much after a full day of walking for my children. Also a very lovely clean children area with books, toys, colouring and a game console I thought this was a lovely touch. Loved it and my daughter already asking to Stay again!

Excelent large breakfast room. Huge flat-screen tv. Unique two-dimentional washbasin. Very good modern plumming. Large foyer with 2 tv screens. Wide bar, never crowded. 2 lifts (one was under maintenance at the time). Fast check-in. English breakfast-self serve. Separate toilet. Writing table with lamp and couch. Ergonomic light switches at side of bed.

No telephone to reception - only on-line. Asked for a room change - 1st floor room was noisy from above. Top floor ok. Disturbing and confusing full-wall mural in first room with apparent political overtones. No sat tv-just freeview (limited channels).

The room was extremely clean and very well presented and comfortable. The location of the hotel is useful for both central York activities and also venturing outside the city limits. I appreciated the flexibility in check-in times as I was arriving after a long-running event and wasn’t certain exactly when I would be able to appear. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

The hotel was undergoing refurbishment at the time of my stay so certain facilities were unavailable and only one elevator was working, which sometimes led to significant traffic problems getting to and from the higher floors. This is however just an unfortunate circumstance of when I happened to be staying, and I’m sure the impact will be worth it when the work is finished. It would not put me off staying there again.

We loved that the hotel was stylish and well located for the Barbican (also for walking into the city centre). Also that it has an onsite car park which is really convenient. It was very clean and the breakfast was exceptional. We stay in a lot of hotels and this was a truly lovely breakfast experience. We saw that the hotel is pet friendly and a breakfast area was set aside for dog-owners. We will definitely return with out little fur baby.

We were at the side of the building so there was no view, but this was not a deal breaker!

I loved the reception area / bar area it was welcoming and allowed for us all to meet up and have a drink and chat . Breakfast was plentiful hot and lots of choice. Room was tidy and enough towels. Staff we met and spoke to friendly enough. Was local enough to walk into York to see the sights.

Reception area a little chilly . One coffee machine in the restaurant and a slow one at that was not enough for the amount of people using it. Sink in room 224 drainsmelt. Rain shower didn't work. Hubby said bed was uncomfortable... I didn't mind it. Strange clicks in the room. Whether this was scaffolding outside we are not sure Clearance of breakfast plates on Sunday was none existent... Pool area a little grubby... pool changing area needs more changing facilities or provide all rooms with dressing gowns so we can return to room to change.

The staff, especially those in the dining area at breakfast were very helpful and friendly. The location is a 10 minute walk into the centre of York which was perfect for our visit. The food was delicious. Breakfast was superb. The room was comfortable and clean. Family and dog friendly hotel. Improvements were ongoing during our stay but did not spoil it for us aside of no pool availability which I was advised of before we travelled which was good.

The toilet in the bedroom is separate to the bathroom and has no wash hand basin, meaning you have to touch 2 lots of handles before being able to wash your hands :-(

It was 10-minute walk from the hotel along the river to town. Lovely scenery view walking along Riverside over a small bridge. And have benches outside the back of the hotel to sit for fresh air. If have little kids small play area in the hotel. Parking is available. charged per day there. Cheaper than parking in the town. Comfortable with double bed and 2 sofa beds. Friendly staff.

Hotel was ideal for 2 nights. Comfortable stay. If have tall children lol consider 2 double beds instead sofa bed. However kids slept. Overall all was good. Nice place to stay friendly staff

Bright, comfortable room. Great bar area and restaurant with tables outside by the river. A short walk into town and about 30 minutes walk from the station, although you can use the No. 7 bus which runs from the station past the hotel. Friendly, efficient staff. Set back from the main road so quite peaceful.

Small toilet and shower. Be wary of going if there's a race meeting on, if that isn't your reason for going, as taxis are very hard to get and reception won't call them for you on these days. The town also gets very busy.

The location was great, only a short walk into York. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable bed.

Unfortunately our toilet became blocked on our 1st days stay, when we notified reception we were advised that someone would come and look at the toilet. After coming back that evening to the room at 12am the toilet had not been seen to. The guy at reception on that eve had to come to our room late at night to complete the job that should have been attended to earlier in the day. Not ideal after a lovely day/eve in York to have to stay up for someone to fix the toilet. On our floor also, unfortunately there was a family that allowed their children to run the length of the corridor,. The children were running and shouting past all the rooms. While you can expect some noise from people coming and going for breakfast, our corridor was the childrens playground it seemed.
