everything was fantastic!! from the moment we walked in we was greeted by Nick. He escorted us to the upstairs main lobby and proceeded to check us in with his colleague, whilst providing us with a hot towel to warm our hands from the cold. We were then given a fantastic opportunity to upgrade our room for free from this lovely team of staff. After hearing the brilliant news about our free upgrade we then got to choose our very own hand soaps from their soap bar collection. after choosing our desired cleansing stick we were then offered a beverage to which we gracefully declined. finally we were escorted to our room by a lovely woman who gave us the low down on the room. The room itself was absolutely impeccable! Very clean and Very snug! beautiful choice of decor and lighting to accompany. I’m certainly impressed with the quality of the bed as I haven’t slept in for a very long time! Overall, the team of staff here are unreal! The kindest, friendliest welcome we have ever experienced! From start to end we were given the V.I.P treatment. absolutely Chuffed with the service Nick and the rest of the team provided! 11/10 I would completely reckon end to all around! Thank you Nick and the rest of the team, you have made our little getaway an even more memorable experience! merry Christmas to you all and a happy new year!

nothing. top notch secret getaway location. Parking is a pain if you don’t know the area, however it is of no fault to the hotel.

Honestly, the entire hotel is immaculate. The staff were wonderful, attentive and incredibly friendly. I felt right at home. You feel like absolute royalty from the moment you step through the door. The decor, from entrance to the room were maximalist HEAVEN. Dark academia dreamscape with a twist of art deco. A bougie goth's heaven. I could have lived in the Stellar Solarium forever. The views over the city were beautiful, the added little touches such as the choice in Lush soaps and tour of your room by the staff just made for the perfect stay.

If one was to REALLY split hairs, the lack of vegan/ plant based milks for tea and coffee in the morning and not having any plant based option for the pastries. (My partner loved them though) And the spa bath would cool down incredibly quickly and was difficult to get to a comfortable, consistent warmth. Nevertheless, the time we spent in there was lovely.

The staff were outstanding! Nothing was an inconvenience; they were always willing to go above and beyond to make our stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. One of the best customer service experiences we have ever had. Thank you Nikita, Nick and the other lovely girl who checked us in on our first day. We are vegan and staff bought in vegan pastries for us on request and brought tea and coffee to our room every morning. Exceptionally accommodating.

Issue with our air conditioner unit on the first night that kept me awake; however, when I notified the staff they dealt with the issue straightaway (within 5 minutes!) and even upgraded our room for our remaining two nights stay, and made sure we were comfortable and happy. We couldn’t believe how quickly the issue was dealt with and what was offered as an apology - we were sent champagne and chocolate to our upgraded room!

I have stayed here twice now, most recently with friends who we recommended the property too. We all agree that the property is visually beautiful. So much thought has been put into the interior design whilst including so many original features. The hotel is super central, you can’t ask for anything better location wise! I have now stayed in both the Labyrinth room and Sensational room and can firmly say both rooms have a lovely atmosphere and are a wonderful experience in addition to the history surrounding you in York. The hotel also have a great addition of complementary pastries and coffee in the morning and a soap/bath bomb choice experience on arrival, a lovely touch. The hotel has recently fitted air-con which we didn’t have on our first visit, which was great. The staff are so lovely and helpful. I will be back again!

Lots of outside noise, especially from the local McDonalds around 3am but the hotel staff are super clear about this and provide earplugs. Sometimes the lack of light in certain rooms are a little annoying when getting ready to go out. A makeup mirror closer to natural light would be a wonderful addition.

Brilliant central location, couldn't be better for access to what York has to offer. Comfortable and quirky rooms. Wonderful friendly and helpful staff. We really appreciated the flexibility of the hotel staff about our checking in time, as well as being able to store our luggage after checking out so we could explore more on our last day. There's Betty's tea rooms right opposite, loads of bars and restaurants right on the doorstep. I noticed other reviews mentioned noise from the street, but I didn't hear a peep from outside my room (the Bank Vault) at all during my stay. Lovely little touches like the soap selection, a well stocked mini-bar, complementary hot drink selection in the rooms. Great shower. I would definitely stay again, and happily recommend to friends visiting York

The basement rooms did not have reliable WiFi coverage, and of course there's no phone reception either, being below ground level. I think the hotel can easily fix this by setting up a WiFi mesh network, or deploying some WiFi extenders throughout the property. The atmosphere throughout the hotel is themed around it being dark with mood lighting everywhere, which isn't a problem, but certain sections like reception and the entrance could benefit from having some more standard brighter lighting, just to assist with filling in check in papers etc. Minor snags were no hand soap in my bathroom, and my shower had 2 bottles of shower gel, but no shampoo.

This hotel was probably those most incredible hotel we’ve ever stayed in EVER!! On arrival we were offered a lemon hand towel and scented soap which we chose. This was such a beautiful touch and start to the total experience. The hotel room was fresh, cosy, Comfy and we loved the decor of old in the new. We stayed in the King room with the jacuzzi and me and my partner had an amazing time together. We will definitely be staying again. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

The only thing that we could say was the location was perfect!! If you want a quiet nights stay on a weekend you will be offered ear buds. The townlife is rowdy and was loud at parts of the night. This didn’t bother us but it might for some that want a quieter evening.

Excellent stay at impossible, amazing location just on the door step. Car parking 10 minute walk away. We stayed in a basement room, not too noisy, great experience. Staff were very very friendly and very professional, the soap option when checking in is a lovely touch. Beds very comfy! It was my partners birthday and they wrote a little note saying “happy birthday” this wasn’t requested, just went off his DOB, which was a lovely special touch

- toilet roll, very thin and cheap. Could spend a bit more on the toilet rolls to ensure customer satisfaction - bedding felt wet, don’t know if this is because we was in the basement, but the bedding felt it had been put on wet and not dried with the room having no sun light - very strange - our toilet didn’t seem to flush properly in room 2

Fabulous decor, very atmospheric and romantic. Very welcoming reception. Loved the extra touch of being able to choose own soap and bath bombs for the room. Room was beautiful and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. They were aware it was my birthday do they left chocolates in our room. Excellent position for the hotel, just across from Betty's and the Ivy. Our room had no noise issues. Amazing bath and shower. Air conditioning was amazing in the hot weather. We were made aware, through reading the descriptions of the room before our stay, that although the bath, toilet and shower are in a separate room, there is no door. But this didn't bother us as we've been together 23 years! Lol! We made it to the Impossible Bar, where we had some of the best cocktails we've had. We will definately be staying again.

The decor was quirky but stylish. A lot of attention has been made to design and if you like dark moody sumptuous decor then the Impossible is for you. Hand made soap and pastries and coffee in bed were a lovely touch and the staff couldn’t be more attentive. We loved the 4 poster bed and velvet drapes. Touch of luxury.

There was a lot of noise outside until about 4 am. We were aware of the city centre location and had thoughtfully been provided with earplugs by staff but was very loud. The bathroom was teeny tiny but made up for it with it’s quirky charm.

We loved everything, from the minute we arrived it was like stepping into a secret world, away from the hassle and bustle of the busy city centre. (Alice in wonderland vibes, it was magical) Beautiful lighting which set the atmosphere perfectly, amazing friendly and knowledgeable team to greet us. The wonder touches of a hot towel and choosing a soap for our stay, definitely heightened our senses (which were already having a wild time) the room was beautiful, very cosy and romantic....Great for exploring!!!!!!! The bed was incredibly comfortable, shower was lovely too. And not to mention the red staircase to HEVEN! which leads to the privet hot tub on the roof!!!!! Wowza......

The bathroom was very tiny, and not very private. It made things a little awkward. But that wouldn't stop us from returning.
