The pub is a very old stone building set by the river Ouse with its own carpark and jetty. There is a river bus at weekends to York centre. The pub internally retains all the old world charm but has tastefully been brought up to modern standards of comfort whilst retaining its log fire and armchairs. Upstairs the rooms are named after famous old ships. Ours was the Santa Maria. The rooms are spotless, a reasonable size, and with a good ensure. Ours hade excellent views across the river to sit watching the boats. Because of the age of the building upstairs there are a number of steps up and down along the corridors. Just part of the antiquity. The staff are friendly, chatty and eager to look after you. All in all a great stopover on our travels. We had food and drink whilst here. The beers included local real ales which I had to sample🤣 all 3 off and a range of lagers and ciders. Food was excellent, very large portions and fair priced.

What's not to like. Maybe a better mattress? Ours was a bit springy, but everybody has different tastes in these.

Lovely cosy pub in a beautiful location. The rooms were spotlessly clean and we had a lovely big bathroom. The hotel staff were very accommodating and friendly. We had breakfast which was delicious.

We stayed in the room in the attic with a sloping roof. We did bang our head a few times on the low roof. Also the shower head was too heavy for the shower stand. When the shower was turned on, the spray tilted backwards towards the wall and couldn't be pointed at yourself. We definitely would stay here again but would request a different room.

Comfy bed, clean room. We booked primarily because of it being dog friendly. Well catered for dogs and the treats on the bar and dog water bowls were very much appreciated! Good location and staff were very attentive.

Breakfast was served on Sunday 9-10am, there was no continental option for people who needed an earlier breakfast. We needed to leave the hotel by 7:30am as we were running the Yorkshire Marathon therefore missed out on breakfast.

The room was clean and comfortable. The pub is nice, with nice customers so there was no issue with noise in the room. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. The evening meal and breakfast were both lovely. We took our dog and had no problems with that as the pub and rooms were dog friendly. It is situated in an excellent location, we walked the dog along the side of the river into Bishopthorpe and back. We had a wonderful relaxing night away and would highly recommend it to others.

There were no negatives throughout the stay.

The location was very good. Quiet yet very close to York and the park and ride. Riverside location with nice walks including ex railway cycle track.

I understand that we had the last room which would best be described as quaint. Much ducking was required to avoid head injuries. This was caused by a steep sloping roof reduced further by a large old wooden beam. Host told us that this was the only room like this.

Location was ideal, on the outskirts of the city of York with gorgeous views over the river Ouse and lovely walks close at hand. Excellent staff...manager Carl extremely friendly and helpful. Chef (sorry can't remember name) makes the best eggs benidict I have ever had (even if it was sacrilege that I asked for hard yolks). Hope to come back nearer summer to enjoy outside seating and dining area

Bed could perhaps done with new mattress (although I believe these were being upgraded).....still slept well

The ship inn is a great little find just outside York (around 4 miles). The pub is small and full of character, the locals were friendly., the food was great value for money with huge portion sizes. The room (ours was a twin) was cozy and comfortable. The customer service from the staff was excellent especially from Carl. We struggled to get a taxi back into York on the Saturday morning (due to the Christmas markets being on in town) Carl very kindly took us back into York in his own car. Will definitely stay again.

Nothing.

Clean and friendly staff . Welcoming to dog. Good shower and comfortable bed and lovely crisp clean bed linen. Lovely location . Food was good .

Noisy residents late at night, banging doors and arguments but thats not the pubs fault. Actually pub closed early at 10 so they must have come from somewhere else . Rooms hot with no fans but in uk we rarely have such warm temperatures as this week .

Breakfast, location, staff and room were all Brilliant. It helped that the weather was great!

Not a fault for most people but I’m a big chap and the bathroom was a little pokey! There was a big shower tray in a small room, making going to the loo or using the wash basin a bit of a squeeze! Also, although the shower tray was large, the gap in the sliding door to it when open wasn’t very big, I had to go in sideways! Again, not a problem for most and it wouldn’t stop me from staying there again.

The location was spot on, very scenic and relaxing. Its a bonus that the place is also a pub so you can start you're night from there. The breakfast was gorgeous also we had the full English, would stay again 100%.

Would of preferred a room facing the canal but oh well not a major issue.
