Everything about the Gingerbread Mansion was amazing! We arrived a little late but they were able to get us checked in very easily, showed us around, and helped us up to our room. There was free coffee and tea offered all the time, there was a gas fireplace in the parlor that we sat around and was much appreciated in the cold NorCal weather. The room was cheery and comfortable and lovely. Historic and delightful. Breakfast in the morning was large and delicious and they were even able to accommodate dietary restrictions. It's so cute and on a nice quiet street, but easy walking distance from the main street. Just a wonderful place to stay! Would absolutely stay again!

Nothing to report- everything about this inn was spectacular! The only possible downside was that the only parking is street parking, but that's to be expected at what was once a house converted into a bed and breakfast. It's a historic structure in a residential neighborhood - having a parking lot would have been unexpected and strange. And the street was very quiet, so we didn't worry.

The innkeeper at the Gingerbread Mansion was very welcoming and the property was beautiful and clean as could be. The evening reception was exceptional, wine, appetizers and the best homemade cookies. Breakfast was top notch.

The only negative, which could be easily remedied, was we both took cold showers! The water was warm for a minute and then remained cold. I would guess they had no idea the water heater needed to be adjusted! We did not see the innkeeper to relay that message.

We stayed in the empire room which is up two sets of beautiful wooden staircases, one of which has a door. There are two sets of entry doors to this room. Pillars at the foot of your bed, two gas fireplaces that turn on and off with the flip of a switch, a shower and a clawfoot tub. There is a dining table in front of one window, a small table and chairs like for tea or coffee in front of another window and a cushioned bench perfect for reading a book in front of a third window. A beautiful wardrobe with robes and slippers. The empire room sits in the front half of the top story. So there's all kinds of alcoves, you get all the beautiful pitches of the roof. Because you have a dining table they will bring your breakfast to your room. There is a view out every window. Beautiful molding, drapery, wallpaper, marble and wood floors.

I wish there was a bottle of bubble bath to use in the clawfoot tub. And it was a little Dusty like on the mirror where they keep the drinking glasses inside your room. But I'm a house cleaner so I probably notice more than most people.

It was beyond all expectations. The staff was delightful. Our room was luxurious and we had several areas that we could sit and enjoy games or just talk. Appetizers and cookies and wine and tea were a nice afternoon treat. A specially cooked breakfast was delicious and we were even allowed to looked at the other sumptuous bedrooms that were not in use. This is a treat!

Wonderful, large room, even though it was one of the cheaper, smaller units. Everything was spotless and in good working condition. There were no “squeaks or creaks” on the staircase or floors, even though this is an old house. The public rooms for afternoon tea/wine were luxurious and the staff was wonderful making sure the wine didn’t run out. The facility is quiet yet located only 1 block from the main street.

Breakfast was less impressive than we had hoped for. It was good but small.

Great location. The Breakfast was good also! We stayed there twice in a week--at the beginning and end or our trip north. The hostess was very gracious and accommodating. We stayed in the same room both times. We arrived later than usual but it was not a problem. Wish we could have been there longer to take advantage of the rest of the mansion such as the happy hour and tea. The fire in the living room was very inviting and cozy. I would recommend this place and would stay there again.

Some of the windows in our room did not stay open. Had to prop them open. Need repair. We like to sleep with open windows for the great fresh air in Ferndale.

The host, Angel greeted us when we arrived & was super friendly. She even offered to help carry our bags in! Angel gave us some recommendations for dinner & some sight-seeing options. The location is perfect! Just a block from the Main Street where there are so many wonderful shops & restaurants/cafes. The buildings on Main Street are originals from the Victorian era & just incredible! I love Ferndale! It seems like they do an awesome job with maintaining the town. The flower barrels/ hanging baskets & American flags down Main Street really add to the charm & beauty of it all! And of course, the mansion is gorgeous & the rooms are amazing! Everything was perfectly in its place & super clean. The gardens were beautiful too.

There are only a couple things I thought could be improved. The breakfast needs a little work, in my opinion. We sat out on the patio. My chair was so wobbly that I thought I might collapse. We both had the frittata & while it tasted ok, it was not how I expected a frittata to look or taste. It looked like a scoop of pale mashed potatoes with ham chunks in it & it was barely warm. The fruit served with it was mushy & soggy & the taste of the orange juice wasn’t great. The gardens are beautiful, but could use a little sprucing up. The fountain was a murky green & dried flowers from a wedding were still hanging from an archway. Also, the cute little storage shed could use some curtains in the window to hide all the stuff in there. I still enjoyed sitting there, though.

The Victorian hotel was beautiful and we were glad we chose it. Staff (owner?) was so friendly. They gave us a tour. Our room was the Italian themed room in which a local artist had painted murals. It was incredible. I wish we had stayed two nights there.

Little restaurant choices open in the evenings. The pizza place we found was great food though. Suggestion if you know you will get there in time to eat dinner (we did not) is make reservations at one of finer dining places ahead of time if you want a meal other than a pizza place meal. They were all booked when we arrived. But the pizza place had excellent non pizza choices so it worked out.

Friendly Staff, helpful and welcoming, and not intrusive. The rooms were delightful, clean, linens wonderful, every expectation passed our imaginations.

Windows have no screens, but that is to be expected in old properties. Didn't know the room was on the third floor, but we made it! Would have liked to know ahead what floor the rooms were on.
