The Monterey Hotel

Bed was fresh smelling clean and very comfortable. Bathroom was very nice . loved the fireplace in the room. Furnishings and decore were very nice .Loved the old building thats why we stayed for the ambiance and history.

No breakfast in the dining room and California opened fully from covid restrictions on the 15th of July. Your Parking situation is terrible .Im disabled have limited walking distances. Really need to do something about the 2 block away parking. Reception was not voluntarily informative about anything. Even though we were staying 2 days bathroom was not stocked for 2 days or 2 people had to call front dresk for all essentials. More soap wash clothes and towels.

The Monterey Hotel is an old building, which has been renovated of course. If you enjoy nostalgic/historical surroundings, you’ll feel comfortable here. There’s no AC, but fans were provided and we slept well, all things considered. The location is great, just two blocks from the Old Wharf, a block from Starbucks, and a pub across the street. The staff was excellent, and responsive. Lastly you can’t beat the cost.

Lack of AC would be my only complaint, but considering the weather is typically comfortable there, you may not need it anyway.

Good location and prise. Everything you needed is available, even coffee.

Hotel is “pet friendly”, but no one predicted us about extra price for pets… they just took money after we left(( And when my dog unfortunately peed on the floor in the lobby, they gave me the tissue and said clean it by myself. it’s not difficult for me, but for me it’s not a good service in pet friendly hotel(

It was a spacious room with fireplace. The room was quiet and you were not aware of your neighbors. When you opened the windows, you had a lot of street noise. but that added to the atmosphere. We appreciated the coffee and snacks downstairs in the lobby. Also, happy that it is dog friendly. It is walking distance to a number of great restaurants and to the wharf, as well as many historical buildings.

The hotel has good bones but overall could use some maintenance such as new carpet, etc. Still a great value for the money and we would stay there again.

We stayed one night in the old (built 1904) part of the hotel on our roadtrip from San Francisco back home to San Diego. The location in the historic downtown was great with options for dinner, breakfast and Alvarado brewing on the same block. It's a bit too far to walk to Cannery Row and the Aquarium if that is your interest. The piers (tourist and working) are nearby. Beds were reasonably comfortable.

It was built more than 100yrs ago so the soundproofing is lacking. We could hear everything going on in the room next store as well as all the plumbing noises. The room itself was tight for a family of four (2 adults, 2 kids: 14yo and 10yo) with little room for luggage. It was like a hotel room in Paris or Tokyo. There is no parking at the hotel so you have to rely on street parking or the nearby garage. The street parking is limited to 90min or less and the garage rules were a little confusing. The nearest public garage was about a block away. Not terrible but certainly not as convenient for check in/out.

The location is excellent for Fisherman's Wharf and the historic buildings. I loved the antique decor and the rambling corridors.

The bed was incredibly creaky! The seagulls were noisy ALL night so we had to close the sash windows, which didn't help much. The carpet near the baseboards needed vacuuming.

The bed was comfy and the shower worked well. I like that the windows actually opened so that I could get some air flow. It was conveniently located near all the main old town.

There was construction at 1am for 2 nights and the seagulls were quite loud. I would have appreciated a fridge and/or microwave and faster internet.

The staff were all very nice. Easy checkin process and a comfortable clean room. Beautiful accommodations within walking distance to fisherman’s wharf and cannery row.

I didn’t mind but for the sake of others reading the review, there is no AC in the rooms. Obviously the weather is good in Monterey, but you will have to have your window open for a fresh breeze, and lots of city noises come in. This may not be to your liking if you prefer the quiet but I loved it. Wasn’t a fan of the Parking situation however. You will have a space to load and unload, but you will have to pay for a parking garage about a block away.

Grat location in downtown walking distance to many restaurants, bars, cafes, bakeries, Walgreens, Old fisherman's wharf, Monterey state park. Short drive to Cannery Row. Monterey trolley to Cannery Row stops nearby.

No housekeeping service, no free parking (parking garage down the block charges bt 9am and 6pm).

Location is great, just in the center. The historical building with nice furniture.

Internet was too bad, we were on a business trip and had to take calls and connectivity was really bad. Lack of facilities for 2 persons to take calls (only one chair). The room was pretty small. No parking. No fridge.
