The location is excellent, you have all the public transportation options one or two blocks from the hotel, it's central so obviously you're going to hear the typical traffic noise of a city, it's logical because of the location which I insist is excellent. Plus you don't see as many crazy people wandering around as you do in neighborhoods closer to the Tenderloin. It really has a very safe location. The property has many bathrooms and they are super clean. The hotel workers are very friendly.

The room & bathroom were super clean and well-maintained. Staffs are friendly. Many amenities & rental items are available. The location is great, close to downtown and in a safe area.

In the middle of downtown (police sirens are sometimes going around at night), so you will need to bring earbuds.

Value-wise, I give it 5 stars. Of course, you have to share shower/bathroom down the hall, but they're kept pristine, and there's even a bathtub. Location is central to Chinatown/Northbeach, all sorts of walking destinations. Restaurants all around. Staff is friendly and do their best to make you feel comfortable. I recommend it for value, especially if staying/traveling for work.

If you work nights, there is a homeless singer who parks his wheelchair on the corner and yell/sings everyday for 3-4 hours between 11am and 3pm roughly. It is very loud and annoying through the windows of the Urban. But if you're out and about all day, you won't even notice:)

I made a deposit of $100 USD and they told me i will receive back between 7 and 10 days after my checkout and that was on February 4. Now is March 31 and they only told me that deposit wasn't their fault that i need to check with my bank but bank said that everything was ok with my account the real problem was that The Urban don't gave any refund so pay attention on this before you make any deposit to them because I read previous feedbacks and other customers complained about they didn't refund deposit.

The location is great, super close to the BART train from the airport and very walkable. It's right on the edge of Chinatown and there's lots of incredible dim sum nearby. It's a really accessible price point in an expensive city, which means you can allocate more budget towards experiences. The room was really clean and the bed was comfortable. The team also allowed me to store my bag for a day after I checked out, which was a huge help. Very happy to recommend for budget travellers.

The neighbourhood is pretty loud, there's a Starbucks right below and unfortunately they were doing night renovations while I was there. It was totally fine as soon as I put in headphones, though. Overall this place is cheap and cheerful.

Absolutely excellent location – you're close to the BART, the cable car, the bus lines, and I was fine to walk to a lot of major sights like SOMA, Coit Tower, Exploratorium etc. Good staff. Very clean shared facilities. For a ludicrously expensive city (we're talking Oslo/Geneva expensive), it's decent value. Area of city much better than some of the slightly cheaper places – I walked back alone from Chinatown at night and it was pretty quiet. Losing a private bathroom was well worth waking up in the centre of the action every day.

I'm sure there are quieter places, but it's not on one of the busiest SF roads. As with most SF hotels, pack earplugs if unsure.

It is a budget hotel with shared bathrooms and small rooms but within that price range it is excellent value for money. The room had a huge fridge, a closet and a fan. There were multiple rest rooms and bathrooms per floor so no waiting. Bathrooms were -although with outdated interior- very clean. Front door is closed and reception is staffed 24/7. Area overall felt safe, hardly any homeless. Location perfect: next to Chinatown, 5 min from Union Square, 15 from North Beach/Little Italy, 30 from Fisherman's Warf. Close to several busstops if you don't want to walk.

The window can be opened but view was directly on a wall. One does not book this hotel for the view though. No socket near bed so phone charging and light switch were not close at hand. Soft mattress.

The Urban was very welcoming and cozy. Small rooms and old building but clean and everybody was very kind and respectful. Had a amazing stay the beds were comfortable and the fan worked great keeping me cool. Shared bathroom and showers were open frequently had no issues didnt have to wait. Right outside china town in a pretty good area with lots around to eat and shop for. Spent a few hours charging my phone and waiting for my flight after checkout, staff was very polite and helpful. Highly enjoyed my stay, will be booking with The Urban in the future when i return to san fran!

Room was somewhat cold, and rooms were a bit small, but it was perfect for me no complaints

The staff were lovely, and the kitchen area was nicely decorated. It was great to find somewhere that suited solo travellers (single rooms with shared bathrooms). The bathrooms were clean. The location was absolutely perfect for walking around the main sites of San Fran.

The room was smaller than it looked in the photos, and I think calling it a 'boutique hotel' is stretching it a bit as beyond the kitchen area it it very dated and could do with a repaint and some refreshing of the bathrooms. It was noisy at night (street noise / bins etc) and the walls were quite thin so you could hear other people talking on phones / tvs etc.

Location is the best in SF. Best price at the best location. Close to North Beach, Chinatown, Little Italy and great Brand Shops as well. Amazing cafés and lots of personality. Practical and everything as advertised. Common areas clean and very well decorated.

Shared bathrooms are not always as clean as one would wish for, but if you let them know they will clean them immediately. Rooms are small but confortable, however, they could improve considerably just by changing things around a bit. Internet connection works all the time but is poor quality, so some apps (e.g. Slack), don't update, which can be a problem if you are working.
