1) Location, location, location. It's close to everything, and it's next to a great Korean bibimbap place. 2) The staff was very friendly and accommodating. 3) Value. This place is a steal. Is it the nicest hotel I've stayed in? No. But good luck finding something this centrally located for this price that isn't a roach motel. The place is clean and comfortable, and I will absolutely stay here again. 4) The complimentary slippers. (It's the little things.)

I would have appreciated an instruction manual for the futuristic-looking shower. I couldn't figure out how all the knobs and spigots worked. The water pressure is great, though.

Exceptional value. One block from our walking destination, multiple parking garages within one block, multiple places to eat within a block or so, but many close 5-8 pm. Taxi pickup at the front door. Room is small (one chair, not room for a second), bathroom large, bed comfortable, and all newly remodeled and clean. Streets around it felt safe walking at 10:00 pm (Just a block off of K-Street in the high rent district). Don't expect the St. Regis (just a block away). Embrace quirky for the price.

Most of the close (block or less) parking garages closed at 7 PM some nights (Monday, Tuesday, ?) Late arrival after 9:00 pm on a Monday, but found on-street parking until the garages opened at 7 am.

This was a great bargain, about 8 minutes walk to the MacPherson Park Metro stop and bus stops within a few blocks and within 15 min walk to the White House gates (you can't actually get into the White House, of course), maybe 20-25 to National African American Museum. There is a nice common room on the ground floor with a fireplace and TV and free hot coffee and tea. There was also a microwave in the den, so one night we just picked up a ready-made meal from Whole Foods, about 9 minutes walk away, and ate in -- There is a luggage storage area where we left our bag when we first arrived. It was a nice older building with a lot of character and the desk staff were always attentive.

Well, these days many hotels encourage their guests to just use a single towel during their stay and not to request fresh sheets every day. It was very nice that the hotel did this, but personally we are trying to make a little dent in our footprint, so we put a do not disturb sign on the door to avoid new towels each day. Again, the hotel could save money, and help travellers to do their part by encouraging them to turn down the heat while they're away during the day-time.

The location was excellent. Just a couple of blocks from the Metro. Near great restaurants and convenient stores like CVS. The size of the room was relatively small, but I was solo so it suited me fine. The hotel used to be old apartments so I enjoyed the "old" feel with the brick interior. There was a great book in the hotel room that explained the history of the building. Also, very easy check in and check out process. I arrived at 12:30pm and Check-in isn't until 4pm, but my room was ready and they let me in immediately. The check out process took roughly 30 seconds.

The bathroom amenities could be better. It's a preference, but I don't care for an overhead ceiling shower head. The entrance and elevators could be updated.

Very good and central location, hotel has nice old timey charming vibe. All was clean.

Was quite loud in the room, you could hear the elevators and we were not even located close to them. Also quite cold. There was A/C in the room with heating function, but it was poorly located in a smal cornered space and it did not have a function of constant heating, only heating to a specific temperature. So as it was in a small cornered space, it was constantly turning itself on & off thinking the required room temperature was reached. Not really fault of the hotel, but thought I'd mention.

The location of the hotel was really good. It was possible to walk from it to see most of the tourist attractions within less than a 30 min walk. The Whitehouse was only 10 mins away on foot. The hotel had character and the bed was comfy. It is close to a bar and breakfast place which was handy

Parking is an issue. When we arrived we were extremely lucky to find a spot very close to the hotel with a 1hr limit - so enough to unload and check in. As we left on a Sunday, it was also available and free this time. We had to find a car park within a 5 min walk to leave the car during our stay. Parking is not cheap - approx 35 dollars per day. The hotel provides no breakfast nor any coffee making facilities in the room. The room was not big but it didn't feel overly small either.

- Location was exactly what i was looking for to accommodate my needs. Safe area and very accessible to everything and lots of good options in walking distance: cafes, restaurants, sightseeing, nightlife (Logan circle and 14th, Dupont etc) - The room was really clean and cleaned every day, fresh towels as well - Great shower, warm water at all times and a good current - Bed was comfy (although strangely high to sit on, and I’m not short) - Staff we’re really ok, answered and helped with whatever i needed

- Super basic - My room was really small, or simply badly planned (i had a queen room by myself) - Weird smell once you get in the hotel and in the room, maybe it’s due to what they clean with - There isn’t an option to turn the lights in the bathroom without the vent turning on that makes a weirdly very loud noise

It was hot during our stay and it was really nice to be able to use the a/c. And the location was stellar. Several great breakfast places for me as a vegan so that was awesome.

The sustainability of the property could use some work. There was no effort to get us to reuse our towels to reduce the water. Easily done with a note reminding us if the towels are on the floor they get replaced. Otherwise they are saving water! Also the tiny plastic shampoos! Could use built ins that save plastic and money for the hotel. Would love to see more of these moves in future!

The location is great. It’s pricey for what you get, but relative to other hotels in the same area, it’s still much cheaper. If it wasn’t in this location, you probably wouldn’t stay here. Bed and pillows were comfortable. I like the architecture of the building. The rooms tend to be small, but I actually like that. The showers are nice. I don't know if rooms have tubs. I’ve stayed here a couple of times and would do so again.

Even though it has been renovated, everything looks dated. Almost like one renovation occurred in the 90s and another in 2010s, but they only changed the 90s finishes if they were broken. The rooms seem to always have something missing or not quite right. It’s nothing major and doesn't cause any significant issues. If your use to staying in nicer hotels, it may be a little aggravating. An example - While I like the showers, the shower head during my last stay was damaged. Water still came out fine, but it was still damaged. As stated earlier, the rooms are small due do it being a historic building. And while I don't mind, I can see how it could be a tight fit for two or more people. They may have larger rooms, but I don't know.

I usually stay in 4 & 5 Star hotels, but those hotel’s prices have become outrageous and (hopefully) unsustainable in DC. So I used Booking.com to find a great hidden gem in a great location that seemed to fit my needs for a short trip. The Architect did not disappoint. My bed was fantastic! My room cute, with sealed exposed brick, and super comfy. The staff, especially Lemon, so friendly and accommodating! I’ve found my new, affordable fave hotel in DC!

This is a small boutique hotel. It’s not “ritzy”, but it’s clean and comfortable. The elevator is smaller than some may be used to, but would fit 2-3 with bags. My room had a window AC that worked as both a great AC and pleasant white noise. The only thing I didn’t like was how loud the bathroom fan was. It came on automatically with the light. I left it off as much as possible.
