Monsieur Jean - Hôtel Particulier

The room was bigger than expected! The city view from 7th floor (top floor) was very good. Kitchen and bathroom area are both excellent in room. Bathroom can be made totally private with drapes. Table and 3 plush chairs are perfect for working on laptops while enjoying coffee, croissants from nearby bakeries and a nice view of nearby iconic buildings. Plenty of beverages are available after hours downstairs in the cafe on the honour system (charged to the room at reception.) Quiet hotel. $18 parking next door. Thick bath towels. Excellent thin robes that don't make you feel too hot. Free slippers. Camelia Sinensis brand tea bags. There is even a tray for wet boots!

Full cost of 3 nights was charged to my credit card at the time of booking, 4 months in advance of our trip! Breakfast was not included in our rate. No bottled water or lungo capsules provided. Gilchrist & Soames individual plastic bottles of shampoo, shower gel and lotion, and tiny bars of soap, were a surprise at a new hotel which could have installed refillable pumps. 2 standard size bath towels. Extremely soft bed. Could not see city fireworks display from our angle but that is not a deal-breaker!

Mostly everything: - Really cool ambience - unique hotel theme that both adults and kids loved. The playful theme reminded me of the Disney magic you feel at WDW resorts - Great location - short walk to restaurants and attractions within Old Quebec - Pretty quiet for the location - it felt like a secret hideaway within the city. Zero noise from other rooms - only normal city sounds at night - Spacious rooms with comfortable beds, nice view of city, great bathroom, and full kitchenette/bar - Hotel accommodated our request for 2 adjoining rooms

All very minor inconveniences that were far outweighed by the great experience once we got checked into the hotel: - The hotel keeps a low profile exterior, so it was challenging to find, even with GPS. I drove past it twice before spotting the entrance. I would advise to look up a picture of the blue front door before visiting, just to familiarize - Hotel entrance is on a steeply sloped road, so slight challenge to load/unload luggage from a car. However hotel service was quick to assist with this - The onsite grocery store / cafe at the hotel did not exist at our time of stay - it appeared to be under construction/renovation

This was our second week-plus stay at Monsieur Jean. The first time was last fall and we came back for 9 days because we were so happy last year . The hotel is lovely, very well maintained, arty with whimsical art and comfortable, beautiful furnishings throughout. The two different rooms we had were large, very comfortable beds with great linens. We are totally smitten with the place. Everything has been well thought out and it makes for a carefree vacation. The cleaning staff are amazing, the front desk staff polite and helpful. It is well situated, easy to get around and we found it very quiet at night

There was not one thing we did not like about the property.

What a fantastic experience! When you stay at Monsieur Jean, you definitely experience the Quebec City charm from the minute you arrive outside their doors! Their taste in unique art is evident from the landscaped dog in front of their sleek majestic blue door to the entire main lobby which has artsy, tasteful and quaint little vignettes set up in every corner. Many photo opts within the hotel! I absolutely loved and appreciated the beautiful scent which instantly made me smile because I knew I had arrived home and after walking the streets for hours each day, Monsieur Jean was definitely a welcoming oasis to return to! As you enter the lobby, you are instantly greeted by the warm and friendly staff who are always so kind and willing to offer suggestions to ensure you experience all that old Quebec has to offer! They offered us free bus passes and we were also able to rent a bracelet so that we could visit Summer Fest for the day! The rooms were exquisite, clean and so comfortable! They use the best bedding, linens, towels and they include robes and slippers to use during your stay! Not a detail left unturned! They even include an umbrella and a kitchenette with everything you need and more! I can’t say enough about this wonderful hotel!

Can’t think of a thing that I would change.

Best thing was the location - walk to everything! We walked to Fairmont Château Frontenac and some great restaurants in the area. It was a short drive (or buses available) to Montmorency Falls. The concierge was very helpful. The breakfast (which was served to our room at 6:30), well the danish really, we didn't eat the omelette, was great. We were able to make tea/coffee in the room. There was a safe available. Although not guaranteed, they were able to provide parking for our car during our 3 night stay. Beds and pillows were soft and comfy.

The restaurant was closed - we were unaware of this until we arrived. Therefore, breakfast was served to our room very early - 6:30 am- and we had to reheat it. There were no options, although the danish was delicious. Also, on the day after our arrival, we were told the power would be off from 9am to 3pm. So we got up earlier than planned and headed out for the day. Upon return, we were told, that the power had been on, however, would now be off the next day. So again, we had to get up earlier than planned and leave the hotel for the better part of the day. We were not compensated for the lack of restaurant or the power issue in any way.

Great hotel, terrific location, right in the midst of the busy, historic district, yet subdued and tranquil inside the hotel. Professional staff, including Mitch, the friendly valet who always seemed to be there. Nicely appointed room, quiet, ours looked out towards the City Hall park and the top of Chateau Frontenac.

My only complaint about the room is that the bed was too soft. My wife shared the same complaint. We had a similar experience at a very nice hotel in Montreal a few days later, so perhaps Canadians like softer beds than Americans.

We had 2 junior suits - the size was very comfortable and also the interieur was very nice - very art affine. The location of the hotel is in the middle of the old town - so we made all our visits per walking - which was extremly nice and confrotable .. For the car was was a valet parking available - also a good service. Personal was very friendly and supportive.

Costs are in the higher range (but it was main season and we knew before). When you arrive - there is no space to park your car for unloading - you stand direct on a small side street. TV programs were very basic.

Monsieur Jean is in a great location. Right in the heart of shopping, cafes, restaurants. We walked everywhere both within and outside of the walls. And only a short taxi ride to outer neighborhoods to explore. The staff is cordial. The kitchenette is behind closed doors which was fabulous. I am allergic to pet dander and asked for a pet free room when we made the reservation which made for a comfortable stay. They kept the common areas clean too.

The only disappointment was our last night which was New Year's Eve. Housekeeping did not thoroughly clean our bathroom. The bathtub and the water closet floor had not been cleaned.

This hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of the old city. We were able to walk to everything, the restaurants, cafes, bars and stores right outside the hotel make it so easy to enjoy. The staff was incredible helpful, friendly and attentive. The room was huge, clean, incredibly nice with a view. The interior of the hotel is wonderful.....a unique vibe! Parking is tight BUT the quick valet service was terrific and easy to use.

Wish this place had its own cafe or bar (it has a piano room overlooking Rue St. Jean which would make a wonderful lounge just for a relaxing late evening drink and conversation. Otherwise, this place is absolutely perfect for comfortably visiting this lovely city.

This hotel is a wonderful jewel right in the heart of Old Quebec City, it is so much like being in the heart of Quarter St Germain in Paris itself. The staff could not be more helpful, kind and caring. They gave us wonderful rooms and went out of their way to make our Family Holiday such a memorable experience. The unique boutique style, somewhat quirky and somewhat humorous is heartwarming. A hotel to come back to again and again!

There is nothing we didnt like. This is a wonderful wonderful hotel with the nicest warmest staff.
