Newtown Budget Hotel

Double room with ensuite. Comfortable bed and pillows. Tea/coffee making facilities in room. Mini bar. Small functional bathroom. Tiny "balcony" with french doors gave nice view over backyards and laneways. Good amount and location of powerpoints. Room smelt very clean and fresh on arrival. Two towels (nb no hand towel or face washer). Dispensers in shower with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash (nb no hand soap). Had a rail with hooks to hang clothes (nb no coat hangers). Access to room was via stairs and hallways. Walking distance to train station, about 10min walk. Close access to cafes, restaurants, food works, specialty shops, Enmore Theatre (about 15 min walk). Short train ride to Central Station. Close to shopping centre Marickville Metro. No security deposit required for room. Check in 2.30pm Check out 10am. Reception closed at 9pm. Access via side door after hours. Would stay here again.

Being able to lock the french doors onto the balcony would have been good. One door had a floor bolt and then there was a sliding chain near the door handles however doors could still be opened from the outside. Could hear other room entry doors banging during night and early morning. A shelf in bathroom near basin would be handy. A chair in the room would also be useful. This is budget accommodation and you get what you pay for, no frills basic comfortable clean and tidy hotel.

When I first arrived I could hear a banging from outside (room 6) and thought it would keep me awake, so I told a cleaner, who was very helpful. She suggested I ask for a different room, but there were none available. I came back and let her know that, and she'd already changed the towel I'd wiped my hands on. The problem was solved immediately, by closing the corrugated iron doors at the back. Evjery staff member was very friendly and helpful.

My experience was coloured by my previous stays there, which is unfortunate, as things change, of course. My 3 previous stays had been upstairs, on the other side of the building - not the city side, where fragrant Jasmine had been growing, right up to the balcony level. It was also possible to park in a spot down St John's lane, opposite, behind security gates, but that's no longer possible. Fortunately, I'd decided not to drive this time.

The location suited us well and the bed was comfortable. The staff were polite and helpful and provided a hairdryer on request.

The room was much smaller than expected which was fine although the bed was pushed up against a wall that was covered in a large mirror. That was a little odd. There needs to be a little shelf with a power point on the wall-side installed so you don't have to climb over your partner to have a drink or check the time in the middle of the night. The bathroom was also very small and you needed to sit sideways on the toilet! This didn't really bother me but it might be tricky for others. It also had a window that was permanently open to let steam out so it was very cold to use. We are from the tropics, so are a little sensitive to a cold winter Sydney bathroom :). We also needed extra towels which were delivered.

The room I was in was extremely suitable

I had a rocky start... I had advised that I was arriving late to Sydney and was looking at 9-930pm arrival. As I already had communicated via my booking, I also called the venue. I was advised over the phone if I was to arrive after 9pm, a $30 fee was to be charged. I advised I was not to be charged as there was nothing stating this fee. I did arrive at 835pm, and the front desk was unattended until 850pm...plus no lifts. A hard task to carry a 25kg bag up 2 flights. Not even asked if I needed a hand. The room I was originally given had a faulty balcony door, to which I said it wasn't safe. I was given another room which made up for a bad start. I will definitely stay again as long as I have the same room.

The hotel is very clean, the staff are very friendly and helpfull. like the street it's situated on; very funky 1960's style vibe the shops are great the people you can meeet there are fabulous. Diversity area and I'm ok with that.

The manadement just need to replace one square of carpet on one of the landings on the stair well. Paint splashed on the carpet. Seems that maintenance has beeen done but the workers have spilt paint and left dust in the carpet on the stair case landing/s.

The location is perfect, directly on King Street Newtown, surrounded by cool bars, cafes and restaurants. Short walk to the train in Newtown and very easy to get to from the airport. The AC works perfectly and the shared bathroom is perfectly fine. A perfect spot if you need a reasonably affordable bed in a good location. The staff were all also super nice, and let us check in early.

I don't have anything to complain about, you get what you pay for here.

10 minute walk from Enmore theatre. Room was basic but practical. As a housekeeper I was happy with the cleanliness of our Room and the amenities provided for the price. The man at the front desk was very polite and helpful. It was comfortable for an overnight stay.

The only issue I had with the private bathroom was the tiny shower and not being able to escape the shower curtain touching you. I hope these get washed very regularly or even better; get changed after every stay. There was also a strange smell in the hallway to our room and in the bathroom but the room itself had no smell.

Staff was 5 star with big smile,extremely polite&helpful! Location was great, 15 minutes by car to airport(recommend uber), 700m from train station. Price reasonable for 3 people. Big,comfortable beds, big room. Easy to find place. Reasonably quiet. Heaps food options around! Good common area with for example microwave etc. Airport shuttle service. Safe place to stay.

Bathroom was not pretty..lots maintenance half done etc. No lift(didn't bother us).

The staff were really lovely. The hotel is in a great location, and despite my room facing King Street, it was very quiet. The bed was comfy, and the bathroom was clean. I'll definitely stay again, as it was great value for money.

The only issue was my swipe stopped working a few times, so had to walk down the steps and back a few times. It was fine because staff are on-site.

The room was clean and comfortable. I enjoyed the view of King St. The staff were friendly. The foyer was a pleasant place to meet friends. The location in king st was fantastic.

The body shampoo dispenser didn’t work. The curtain was awful and didn’t have a tie back. The bathroom light kept changing from bright to dim. There was a bit of noise coming from adjacent rooms.
