A really interesting and hugely spacious hotel having been converted from the offices of the original steam railway company. The staff, & especially the manager Dennis, were particularly friendly and helpful. The suites were very spacious and well equipped and the bed very comfortable.

The hotel has lots of character and history, at an impressive building. The location is super convenient next to the train station and with tram stops at your doorstep. Our bedroom was quite large, fully equipped and had really comfortable beds. Lastly, Danis and the staff were welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. We had a great time!

While very convenient, being next door to a train station means some noisy trains running by. It didn’t disturbe us at all, but maybe something for guest to consider

The hotel is incredibly large and truly has a "character", in a good sense. Dennis the receptionist was friendly and made us feel welcome instantly. The pool, sauna, location close to the Southern Cross Station and walking distance to the heaps of food joints are hard to beat.

The hotel is dated, literally every bit of it is well past its due date. It doesn't make it unusable but it also doesn't match the price tag. A few things didn't work, like the spa (for a day) or bathrooms at the pool (for the full length of our stay). If you end up with a room at the far end of the hotel (Southern Cross Station side), you will walk for a few minutes just to get out of the hotel, it's huge.

From the moment you enter, it was a wonderful experience. Denis at Reception was very welcoming and full of knowledge - both about the building and general knowledge, the lifts worked well and the corridors were so wide and historic, the linen was clean and crisp, the rooms were huge and the little note left for us was a beautiful touch. We didn't have time, but next time I'd like to know more about the history of the building as I'm sure there would be some interesting stories to tell. Exceptional hotel. Well done Denis and team. Nothing, everything exceeded my expectations

We absolutely enjoyed our little staycation. The manager and staff did everything to make our stay comfortable and just the little extra touches they did for our kids just made us want to come back again. Our kids had the best time just being in the hotel, the inflatables that were in the pools were awesome. They didn’t hesitate to fulfil our special requests. We will defs be back soon.

Nothing really to complain about to be honest. I will add that the trains do run past the hotel so if you don’t like noise then maybe this will be a miss for you BUT ! Our kids enjoyed watching them pass.

Wow! Grand Hotel far exceeded all my expectations. The service was absolutely sublime. Denis is a sweetheart, and even left chocolates and a handwritten welcome card in our room (which included my most favourite quote from Oscar Wilde). The lady who checked us in - I'm sorry, I didn't get your name - was lovely, professional, and efficient, even organising a room change to accommodate for our unexpectedly early arrival (before midday!) Beautiful heritage building with long imposing corridors - I quite enjoyed it but those with mobility issues may prefer a room closer to the lift. The room itself was fantastic. Clean and comfortable, and I had the best sleep I've had in a long time. The location is perfect, a 5 minute walk from the train station and multiple tram lines. To top it all off, we had great fun in the pool and spa. Thank you very much for a wonderful stay, we will be returning many a time.

Not a single thing to dislike

Absolutely exceptional service from Denis, Sherry and team - from the little touches (welcome note with the Oscar Wilde quote and chocolates on the table) to assisting with our check-in/check-out request to the room upgrade - they ensured that our stay was an unforgettable one. The building itself is full of character with vintage fixtures and decor, but the room was very well-maintained and clean. Excellent location - the hotel is ~11mins from South Melbourne Markets and ~16mins from National Gallery Victoria by public transport, while the Southern Cross Station is just a 5min walk from the hotel. Looking forward to staying here again.

Everything was perfect! The staff was very helpful, he even lend us a stroller so it will be easier for us to browsing the town with our 3 year old son. The room was spacious, the bed was in big size and very comfortable. We even got a welcoming chocolate gift which I was really appreciate the kind gestures. The room has all amenities that you need, which you dont need to worry about anything. The location is just 10 minutes walk from Southern Cross Station and there is 7 eleven just opposite the hotel. It also has free laundry area, have both washer & dryer. There is heated indoor pool too, my son had a blast time there. Will definitely rebooking this place whenever we come to the city.

Apart from its exquisite old world charm, location is one of the best things about The Grand. Just a short walk from Southern X station/airport bus. Tram almost at the door to take you to St kilda and numerous other places of interest. Reception staff most helpful and friendly. The rooms are very well appointed wirh a very comfy bed. Loved my spaciois balcony room with fully equipped kitchen..not that i was cooking as there are just so many places close by and/or a tram ride away to dine including the Indian restaurant within the she and itself.

Grand Hotel's location is a convenient walk from Southern Cross station which is ideal for country travellers as we were. The executive room was surprisingly spacious and included a self-contained kitchen which enabled us to make our own breakfast. The restaurant Gaylord's has wonderful Indian cuisine and very lovely staff as did the hotel itself. There is an excellent gym and salt-water pool, spa, and sauna open until late. The hotel manager, Denis and his staff are very approachable and helpful.

The route to the pool and gym area is a bit unusual and awkward to navigate. It appears there is currently no breakfast or room service, although the Gaylord's Indian restaurant can supply dinner to your room by arrangement. Better signage to the main entrance would be helpful.
