The breakfast was great. The room was good, We enjoyed happy Hour and the meals were great too, and the staff were cheerful and friendly. The location was close to the train station and the Yara boat rides and helicopter tours.

We had problems with the elevator cards, and filling the jug up with water, because it wouldn't fit under the tap in the sink. Maybe some sort of map or broacher in the room explaining how the trams work so people can plan where they would like to go, Maybe some sort of list of things of interest with in 2ks of the hotel. had no idea that there was a beach until I sore question 4.

The breakfast was great. You had a wide selection to choose from and good value for your money. In the evening the restaurant is wonderful and the food is delicious. The location of The Great Southern Hotel, is excellent. Close to Al.osr everything.

Oh well, normally our stay at the Hotel is really good but this time we had more stairs to deal with and the air conditioner had something wrong with it. The second night they got it working but we had to listen to a loud noise coming from it for about 5 seconds each time, every 10 to 15 minutes ALL night. I let them know about the noise the first time but was told there was nothing wrong with it. After the all night intermittent noise, guys. There is something wrong with it. I hope it gets fixed this time.

Location was great, room had all we needed for our short stay- microwave and kettle. Even though we checked in 2 hours early, our room was ready and we were able to straight up which we were thankful for. We appreciated the recycling bins located on our floor.

Lack of blankets - there was only a sheet and blanket on the bed; we were cold. Only 1 spare blanket in the cupboard but we had to give that to the kids. When we arrived in our room, there was food in the microwave from the previous guest. Reception was quite crowded and the staff were doing the best they could but it was cramped for guests coming in and out.

The Room - it was better than the picture on booking.com. The bed- I expected a hard bed. It was ultra comfy- this exceeded my expectations. The location was AMAZING. The entire stay was comfortable. I’m coming back. I chose this hotel over a 8.0 level hotel as it was 100 cheaper. I was worried I made the wrong choice. BUT WHEN I GOT TO MY ROOM it looked great. I tested my bed and it was more than I expected! I had the most amazing view. The traffic noise was minimal! Thankyou so much!

I can’t think of anything else! The customer service was great. They had 3 receptionist running. So there was no delay in checking in. The place smelled great. Look if I was to find a flaw, maybe tiny pencil marks on wall. Again, my expectations were exceeded! Plus - it was only $100 bond - cash. That was another reason why I chose the Great Southern over the 4.5star hotel! I did not regret it

Perfect location if you are taking the train/ night bus. Close by to the bus stop for the skybus airport bus transfer. All things within walking distance. Good shower pressure and decent sized rooms. Comfortable and clean beds with extra pillows in the wardrobe. Happy to store bags pre check in.

Obviously has a high turn over rate so the service feels quite impersonal as it is so busy at all times of the day at check in desk. The check in desk is pretty much enclosed in a glass security cage suggesting previous trouble? These aren’t things which would put me off booking here again but the feel of the hotel is not luxury. Great value for money in the city centre and would definitely recommend, but maybe not for a romantic weekend away!

Service was a bit rushed. We came about 15 minutes before 10, but we were allowed to buy our breakfast tickets . When we got into the restaurant, they were already putting the food away. We were told there was an event coming up at the restaurant after 10am so we rushed to finish eating our breakfast . Maybe next time, there should be an earlier cut off time for selling breakfast tickets so we don’t end up rushing so much. Thanks!

We loved the size of the room. Was good to have a microwave in the room. Was very useful to have a table and chairs in the room. We liked being in the cbd.

Bed wasn't that comfy and they should have been one big bed for adult instead of 2 singles,which we was felling the edge of the bed in the middle. Bathroom in thd room should be updated/upgraded(whirlpool bath or spa bath instead of a simple old bathtub) We would have liked to have a toaster in the room.(it didn't make our time there worse,just could be good for the room to have one) Lift 1 was smelling wee like if someone wee in it...other lift was good tho.

Large, clean, well equipped rooms. Comfortable beds. Spare pillows and blankets in the cupboard. Street door requires keycard at night which is a comforting level of safety. Amazing views on Spencer St (if you don't mind traffic noise)

Had some unpleasant interactions with some of the staff. Just difficult, terse, no eye contact/acknowledgement of my existence (when I tried to point out some abandoned luggage in the foyer). A few of them seemed pissed off or something. Was a real bummer. If anyone is having an argument in a neighbouring room, you'll hear it. Walls have ok soundproofing but not front doors. More signs to direct to the laundry would be great. Hopefully the elevators are getting an upgrade.

The location is great for Melbourne. Close to trains trams and shopping at dfo. The staff here are amazing and will do anything to help you. Due to unforeseen circumstances we had to at the last minute add an extra bed to our room. Guest services couldn’t have been more helpful and kind. They found a larger room and put the extra bed in without any fuss. Any extra items we needed such as towels blankets and housekeeping items were easily accessible at reception. I highly recommend this hotel for good value for money, location and amazing staff.

Great location near the station. Very clean. Comfy bed in superior king room. Good shower. Enjoyed the happy hour in the restaurant downstairs. Cheap drinks and delicious share plates.

We could not get breakfast before 7:30. We had to check out early due to catching the sky bus to the airport. So we just bought some snacks from 7 eleven nearby. We were aware of the work being done on the lift which wasn’t a problem for us but would have been difficult if you had large suit cases to get up and down the stairs to the 6th floor. No proper window in the room but a glass panel in the door. It felt odd watching the tv on the side wall next to the bed. A bit awkward. However we were only staying for one night on our way to the airport which was a great place for us. Very convenient location and comfortable.
