We liked the size of the room. Facilities were good. Staff were very friendly.

We didn't like the suburb of Saint Kilda. Lots of homeless people and streets were dirty.

Located in St. Kilda. Great Artwork in the hallway and room. Convenient location, walking distance to restaurants, pubs and entertainment. Tram in front of hotel as well as buses a few minutes walk only. Terrific friendly staff. We managed to leave our luggages prior check-in and the staff very accomodating. I would like to acknowledge Eric (tall guy) who organised everything for us, he is truly a great asset to the Hotel. Very friendly and made our stay enjoyable.

Location is fabulous, easy walk to restaurants and the beach, tram to the city is outside the door. It's a quirky hotel full of art and character. Our room was quiet, at the back of the hotel, and nice for winter as it had NE and NW facing windows. Could be hot in the summer. Bed was comfortable and shower was great, bathroom more spacious than some of their other rooms.

It's a little run down and shabby, and some things in the room needed repair. The common areas need to be a bit cleaner. A bit pricy for what you get, but that seems to be all city hotels just now ...

Tolarno's Hotel was owned by the artist family Mora, well-known in Melbourne. The deep blue walls of the entrance, hall ways and restaurant are covered by wonderful paintings or, in the case of the restaurant, the angel paintings of Mirka Mora. There were two significant paintings in my room, both expressive of a rich cultural life of Melbourne. Thoughtful and energising. There is no room-service but I found no need to change things in my three nights there. The staff are available during the day and are helpful, even helping me by hauling my suitcase up the stairs (no elevator) and Fitzroy street is full of life and wonderful cafes and restaurants - from casual to classy. The beach is just down the street and the area is served by two tram lines making transport to Southern Cross Station for trains very easy. Love it

We got a room upgrade and had a small kitchenette which was a real bonus as we could make breakfast etc in the morning. The room was really spacious and had much more interesting decor than the average hotel room! We also loved that the staff got us early check in as being able to leave our bags in our room and relax a little before exploring the city was really nice.

The shower took a really long time to heat up, but other than that facilities were pretty good!

A wonderful experience staying at this iconic hotel. So much beautiful artwork from the entrance to each hallway and room. I loved staying in The Philippe room with a terrace balcony right on Fitzroy Street, snuggled behind some beautiful trees. Having my first morning coffee on the balcony while watching the trams was a real treat. Room was a good size, very clean, comfortable bed and tv perfectly positioned to watch lying down on the bed. Having a wardrobe to hang clothes was a bonus, as was the adequately sized small refrigerator. I was told it may be noisy at night as I stayed over a weekend but a heavy sliding door to close off the balcony made the room quiet. I drove during this holiday so having a secure, reasonably priced undercover carpark within a very short walking distance of the hotel was a welcoming bonus. Will definitely book the Tolarno Hotel for my next Melbourne visit. I loved it!

Only one thing, there is no elevator, but understandable in an old heritage building. Reception staff was friendly and on arrival helped me with my suitcase to my room. After a very long drive this was much appreciated.

Bed very comfortable. Great location for restaurants, beach. Having the allocated parking was a huge help for me, as i had my car full of boxes etc frommy move down from Sydney. Loved the artwork and brightly coloured walls. Receptionist was absolutely lovely, very warm and friendly.

There wasn’t much I didn’t like. I didn’t have digital TV, they had a blu ray player, which just added to the character of it all. I was too busy exploring St Kilda to need Netflix anyway.

Very helpful friendly staff, I had a fantastic room, thank you guy who checked me in and out , was so good to walk in to hotel and see a smiling face and friendly personality( kiwi new zealander), thanks to guy who replaced batteries in remote, very helpful ( guy working night shift) , keep up the good work. Has a great vibe not like a modern new hotel, place has character just like st kilda. Second time I have stayed here and will be back again

Bigger hot water system for longer showers

Amazing location, easy check in (after 5pm you need to access a lock box but it was super easy), cool hotel with loads of art in a quirky building, room was clean and tidy and we appreciated the later check out time.

Unfortunately the wifi was down for maintenance and we were told it would take a week to fix. My husband was working all day so had to hotspot which wasn’t ideal. These things can’t be helped but some sort of compensation or complimentary drink/snack would have been very welcome. We stayed in the suite which had a small kitchen so we could cook- unfortunately we had to buy our own salt and pepper and ended up not bothering to cook on the stove as there was no oil. It would have been nice to have a couple of little sachets in the room. Only something small but would have been handy!

Very good location in the heart of St Kilda. Close to the city and the beach. Close to shopping facilities. Wide range of restaurants to suit all budgets. Good transport links in various directions. Room is spacious with very comfortable bed and very quiet air conditioning with quick cooling of the room.

There was unfortunately no room service on the grounds of Covid 19, which surprised us. If we had any requests, we could always contact the helpful hotel management.
