The location by the side of a picturesque canal in central Bruges was absolutely incredible. How was it so quiet and peaceful within such close proximity to the centre city? The staff were extremely friendly and professional, typically Belgian in their ability to answer questions in whatever language was thrown at them. Our room looked over the canal. We could open the windows and look up and down the canal checking for the coots, swans and crested grebes with their fledglings that plied the waters. There is minimal water traffic along the canal, so it remains quiet throughout the day and night. The quality of the breakfast was outstanding and at 20 euros a shot was good value compared to the city cafes. The enclosed garden at the rear of the hotel is a peaceful place to sit if you're not out and about in town. The Wi-Fi reaches out that far, so you can work if you need to and smoke if you really must. Take the mozzie rep though because they will come visiting if you sit in the shade.

These are not dislikes, merely observations. It's a very old hotel, so the room was quite small, but that is to be expected. The bottom bed sheet seemed a bit small. You could tuck it in whichever side you liked, but not both. Again, because it's an old and small hotel the space for dining is a bit crowded. At the top of the tourist season, the hotel was busy. Consequently, coupled with the great value of the breakfast the restaurant was busy; a bit too busy for us at times.

A Vacation All My Own: The Enchantment of Ter Brughe It's extraordinary how a vacation, often unexpected, can turn into an indelible memory. And so it was for me when I crossed the threshold of Hotel Ter Brughe. To simply call it a hotel would be an understatement, for it is so much more: an enchantment transformed into a structure, one of those corners that gently weave their way into the hearts of those who, like me, seek authenticity. I usually steer clear of staying in cold, impersonal hotel chains. But here, every doubt dissipated. From the very first moment, I knew I had made the right choice. A delicate fragrance enveloped me, the wooden floor welcomed my steps, and the reception surprised me with a bouquet of wildflowers, a welcoming gesture that brought a smile to my heart. The arrangement of the space seems like an artistic canvas, a balanced mix of styles that evoke the grace of France and the elegance of England. Tartan armchairs, tables adorned with small bouquets and candles, books arranged with care, all in a warm and inviting atmosphere. And then there's the inner garden, a gem shielded by the hotel's walls, an oasis of charm. As I ascended the wooden stairs, I heard that sweet creaking of times gone by, a sound that blends perfectly with the ambiance of the place. And even though the stairs were not the most convenient for luggage, I forgave any inconvenience immediately because in this hotel, every detail contributes to creating an extraordinary experience. And then, the room. A true cocoon that holds a pearl within. Exposed beams, wallpaper, the classic lightweight, quilted Provencal boutis, everything harmoniously combined to create a refined and welcoming environment. The pillows, personalized with elegant embroidery, were a comforting embrace. There was even a dedicated corner to prepare a delicious hot chocolate, a detail that made my stay even more special. The true gem, of course, remains the view.

I booked this hotel liking the combination of a decent price and what seemed to be a good location. I wasn’t disappointed, what a find! My room was gorgeous and had a fantastic cabal view. The room had air conditioning which came in handy in the summer heat. Staff were friendly and as I arrived early, allowed free early check-in to my room. On check-in I was provided with a walking route with historical facts to orientate myself in the city, a list of recommendations for eateries and bars and a large full size city map. The hotel is in a quiet area and the bed was massive and super comfy. I really don’t have enough superlatives for how I loved my stay here; I wish it had been longer and am sure I will return.

I really don’t have any serious negatives.

- Parking was not available at the property when we booked, so we had to park in a public car park, which was a 15 minute walk. This isn't easy with your luggage along the cobbled streets of Brugge!

Good breakfast, quiet and serene location. I like old buildings like that. The room was a bit kitschy, but I liked the style. Staff very accommodating. Clean as much as I could tell.

Ground floor room showing to the garden. That made me feel not very private, though the garden was rarely used by anyone. One socket did not work. And the usw of the coffee maker was not obvious. The shower/bathtab does not really work standing up. Not enough pressure. No protection from spray either.

The hotel was a lovely old building and beautiful decorated It was in a great location and the staff were helpful The beds were very comfortable and we had a lovely view of the canal

The wall partition between room 6 & 7 was extremely thin which was fine for us as my sister was in the adjoining room but could be disturbing for others For a 4 star hotel I would have expected more staff, the poor boy who was left on his own in the evening trying to manage the bar, the front desk and sort problems seemed wrong and unfair on him Our bathroom was very small Also when asking for a hot boiled egg for breakfast I was extremely surprised to be told no !!

Hotel is beautiful, very characterful and quaint. Rooms very large and beautifully decorated alongside lovely ensuite. Lovely courtyard garden next to the bar. Situated 5minutes walk from centre of Bruges. Bruges offer a free bus that you can use to travel around the area as well as to and from the train station. Staff absolutely lovely, friendly, polite and always smiling. Breakfast beyond expectations - huge selection from pastries, fruit, yoghurt, cereals and cooked. Would absolutely stay there again if I return to Bruges

Nothing could be improved

location was beautiful. breakfast hall was right next to the canal so a very serene view for breakfast. breakfast was great with a lot of food and variety. loved it. nice little fridge with drinks available for a price.

no elevators. very transactional staff. a lot of noise due to construction in front of the hotel on hotel’s lane at 7am daily. a lot of smell in bathroom when we arrived that just wouldn’t go away for the entire stay, especially from the toilet seat and the area around it. No microwave. Staff (front desk and breakfast staff)definitely need to have a genuine friendly approach with customers. I say that because I have stayed at many many hotels and can easily notice genuine welcoming and not so genuine.

This hotel is lovely, providing you like old buildings. We love them, so for us it was perfect.. Rooms small ish but adequate, neighbour noise was a bit of a problem we could hear every movement of people next door. Guess that's due to one room being made into two. Lighting in bedroom was a bit dim. Staff were 100% helpfull, always on hand and always happy. Location is superb 5 minute walk to main square. Breakfast superb, great choice and very good quality. We parked in garage on site. Bit pricey 25 euros per night but better than parking off side. Garage bit small for a bmw x6. All in all we would recommend this hotel.

Bit of neighbour noise and that's it.

This is a pretty, characterful hotel, well located, with a traditional feel and a pleasant atmosphere. Huge comfy bed, excellent breakfast, friendly multilingual staff.

The shower had to be hand-held over a bath, which seemed an uncomfortable and basic arrangement for such an expensive hotel. A drawer inside the ancient wardrobe was dusty, dirtying the white shirt that I trustingly put in it. All the plants and flowers inside and outside the hotel seemed to be plastic - even the grass of the terrace.
