Booked a Standard Triple Room - Non-Smoking - No Daily Cleaning Spacious enough for my family and me to sleep in, sufficient space to sit around for meals and lay out luggage as well Great location - there were a couple of supermarts/convenience stores around us such as Fresco and Life, both of which provided a great variety of groceries and food, such that we didn't even need to eat out as there was a microwave on the hotel premises that we can use! (And the microwave is clean and well-maintained!) There are several metro stations (e.g. Karasuma Station) and bus stops nearby, pretty accessible but was a hassle to lug our luggage for that distance. A 15-min walk to Nishiki Market and plenty of nice restaurants around, there's even one right on the first floor of the hotel (but we didn't get to try as it seemed pricey). Free drinks from around 6am to 9pm - you can take these drinks away for the day and they actually taste pretty good, a much-appreciated service provided by Hotel Mystays🙏🏻 Staff - The check-in and check-out process was smooth, the staff are friendly and proficient enough in English for easy communication! They also allowed us to store our luggage for a couple of hours even after we've checked out which I greatly appreciate! Self-service necessities drawer on level 2 - The staff pointed out that we were able to collect some necessities such as combs, shavers, cotton kits etc. in the drawer next to the lift on level 2, which I thought was a brilliant move as guests can simply take what they need - less waste. Room temperature - We were worried about the room's temperature initially as the hotel mentioned that they use central heating and it won't be possible to adjust the temperatures ourselves, but the room was of a comfortable temperature and we had no issues with that.

Air-conditioner noise - My family found some issues with the relatively loud air-conditioner/heater in our room, while it was alright for me as I am not a light sleeper! Some earbuds might help if you are a light sleeper! Security - the lift from the first floor was able to access the hotel room floors without a room key card, which was slightly worrying but the neighbourhood seems relatively safe and we were only staying for a few days, especially since we were staying as a group, so it wasn't too big a concern for us. NOTE! There is an additional accommodation tax per pax for each night, which added up to 1200 yen for my stay of 2 nights for 3 people. Not a big issue but just a note.

We really enjoyed the dimensions of the room - with a hall, a double bathroom and so much space around the beds, which were so comfortable. The position is excellent, just a quick walking distance from the Shijo metro station, and from some unmissable attractions. Restaurants nearby make it easy to end the evening without taking kilometres to be fed. Excellent breakfast, and coffee available free of charge until 9 pm. Great choice, if again in Kyoto someday, this will be our hotel for sure once again. Thanks for everything and greetings from Italy!

Absolutely nothing.

MyStays Kyoto Shijo is a budget/business hotel chain and this location in Shijo was recommended by a Kyoto friend for my initial stay in Kyoto. Very clean, simple and comfortable room with updated bathroom. Professional and courteous staff. English speaking, but you can also use your google or translation app if necessary. Breakfast buffet was good with simple Western choices and many Japanese choices. The cheerfulness of the breakfast dining room team was a very nice touch and so nice to be greeted by them in the morning!! (And they work hard!). I had booked the breakfast plan ahead because I do not want to take time searching or trying new breakfasts, and like to be in hotel location so can return to room before setting out.

Elevators and breakfast dining areas can get very busy at times if a tour group is arriving/departing/eating at same time. Maybe a few more bread choices for breakfast.

Excellent location next to a very larger supermarket and access to trains and buses within 10 min walking distance. We stayed during the Gion Festival in Jul and next door they had evening ceremonies with bells and drums - we did not hear any of that. Liked that they provided mini packages of facial cleanser and bath soaking powders. Additional bonus was their hot/ice drink machine that dispensed matcha tea and coffee on demand!

Breakfast was mediocre. Same items daily primarily consisting of a few pastries, porridge, and the green cold soba noodles. Breakfast was convenient for the first day, but I would skip the breakfast next time and just go next door to the market which has tons of snacks and to go foods!

Out of all the Mystays hotels I stayed in during my trip to the mainland Japan, this was by far the best. The rooms and bathrooms were more spacious than a typical Japanese hotel, and were very comfortable. I typically have trouble sleeping through the night, even at home, and I didn't wake up until my alarm went off. The hotel is also located along several bus lines and in walking distance to multiple train stations, restaurants, and the vibrant and buzzing city life. It was also very culturally diverse with people from many areas of the world visiting the city of Kyoto. There is so much to see and experience in Kyoto, and glad I ended my journey through the mainland here.

I wish there was a more affordable and free breakfast options onsite.

Very convenient location, close to bus station. You can get really fast to Gion district(10-15 min by bus) and also to Kyoto station. 2 supermarkets are available literally 10 meters away from the hotel. Very quiet area, nice view from the room. Hotel staff was very kind and helped us with some information regarding local events. Room was big enough and the bed was very comfortable. You have plenty of restaurants close to the hotel. Price/quality was very good.

The washing machines were old and it felt like they weren't very clean, therefore a suggestion would be to replace them with some new ones, more modern.

Room was rather small despite it being a corner suite, there was not enough room to open both of our full sized (30") suitcases The interior of the room was a little dated Lifts were not sufficient, expect to queue especially during "rush hour" in the mornings

Excellent hotel with a nice lobby area, and beverage dispenser for hot/ice coffee and matcha tea. Location is within walkable distance to subway station as well as near bus stops (1 bus to Arashiyama Bamboo Forest and to Kiyomizu-dera Temple). An excellent supermarket next door as well as convenience stores and grocery store close by. Room is clean and comfortable. Hotel provided umbrellas that we could borrow for use on a rainy day.

Good but not very good breakfast. It's easy to find great food outside so I would not recommend booking the breakfast. Really like the free water, coffee and matcha tea Nice but a bit old-fashioned rooms. Good price..good location

Good hotel and good average room. Beds were comfy and enough room for my parents and I. The location was Great! A big supermarket just next door as well as many convience stores. Nishiki market about a 10 to 15min walk and we loved it as well as lots of shopping. Lots of bus stops around to take you to all the tourist spots. Good value!
