We booked this hotel for 1 night only to have the chance to appreciate Nikko's falls located in the north area. -IT CAN ONLY BE REACHED BY BUS OR TAXII- BUT HOTEL PROVIDES A PICK UP SERVICE FROM TOBU AND JR NIKKO STATION. ((Please if you're staying here make sure to dine at the "tonkatsu" restaurant 5 min walking from this hotel. they open only from 1h from 5 pm to 6 pm..it will be you're best meal ever.)) The room was traditional japanes with tatami floor, 3 fotoon and 2 beds with a spacious bathroom with bathtub and a lovely view on the lake! The location was perfect as it was right in the middle of our final destination, it has various bus stops right in front of the street. We didn't expect the variety of games, books and relax areas such as chars couch and hammocks on the 3rt floor. They also had an opens self service bar with many drinks, soft drinks and snack up to 22 pm. In the main hall they had a buffet of marshmallows biscuits and chocolate and a fireplace to made s'more!! Onsen was pretty! Clean and organized. Very spacious areas with indoor and outdore bath. ( I suggest removing your jewelry prior entering the bath as some gold could tarnish :( but it only depends because of the type of water in the actual onsen...). I was very happy and relaxed. would definatelly stay here again!!

The hotel seams a bit old and since is very big gets dusty very easily, our room had some old stains on the curtains and under the sink and some dust in the corners, but over all nothing scary!!

The location is central with a bus stop right in front the hotel. I booked including breakfast and dinner, which were both very nice and tasty. I was very pleasantly surprised that dinner included free self-service drinks (huge selection, also including alcoholic beverages). They also provide some free snacks and drinks in the afternoon/evening in the lounge, and even smores to grill over a fire one evening. The public bath was very nice. Staff spoke English extremely well. The dorms were fine, with a comparatively large locker for valuables in the cubicle.

They use some online system for check-in (went fine) but also for mandatory reservations of meal slots. I found the latter a bit annoying as it wasn't indicated anywhere from when on you can reserve a slot (seemed to be sometime in the morning, and then only for the next dinner and breakfast). Having to occasionally check if reservations are finally open while hiking wasn't ideal. The dorm was fine, however a dedicated spot for luggage would have been nice (now everybody placed it in the corridor in-front of the cubicles). The app had the option to book housekeeping, a bit unclear what that meant for cubicles... Dinner was more a Western-style / fusion multi-course meal, I personally would have preferred a Japanese menu if staying in a Ryokan.

For this price I didn't expect to stay in such a luxurious hotel! It is a dorm room in an otherwise pretty comfortable place. Your bunk bed is not great but okay for sleeping, but what you get is a free onsen with actual hot spring water! Breakfast is also great, as are the facilities and the lounge room (which includes games and a ping pong table). Definitely the best place along lake Chuzenji for such a low price!

It was self-service check-in, which I guess is okay for most people... but sometimes I like to have a bit of contact with the staff to see what's going on in the area.

Stayed in the spacious family room with a lake view. Its location is great - close to the bus stop, near the beautiful Shrine. The staff we dealt with are very kind and helpful, they also speak very good English. There is a big common space on the third where one can spend some time while it's raining outside. The onsite onsen is also good.

The breakfast course leaves something to be desired - it's too modest and ascetic for the price. Or maybe it is me spoiled by luxurious breakfasts in other hotels.

Absolutely surpassed my expectation as I'd thought it was a hostel but it turned out to be a dorm room within a great hotel! Highly recommend to opt for the food included (especially dinner) as it's a sumptuous 6-course meal with limitless alcohol. Great way to try the cuisine of Japan. The common room also had beautiful views of the lake, free snacks and drinks (including alcohol), games and hammocks. The onsen was great! Everything was clean and to a high standard. They also gave slippers, free toiletries and yukatas.

As it wasn't really a hostel, it didn't have that friendly environment hostels have, so no socialising. It's more a (great) spa hotel than a hostel.

Was in the area to hike. Close to lake and monastery. Close to bus stop. Has breakfast and dinner available so you don’t need to think about what and where to eat. The hotel has onsen. Food was really delicious. It’s preset menu like in gastronomical places. Checkin was easy with automatic machine. Hotel has some free snacks and afternoon drinks including wine and some liquor. Definitely recommend.

Some minor points: you need to book your breakfast and lunch through web on your phone. Staff help you to do it if you have problems. You cannot pop up at diners the last minute. It’s not a problem, just need to be organized.

In a great location right along the lakeside and very close to the Mount Nantai Summit Trail entrance and the Kegon Waterfall! The lake view lounge on the 3F was awesome with free drinks (alcoholic and nonalcoholic), snacks, sitting/lounge area for couples or families, and a good selection of board games and the ping pong table!

Did not realize there were no nearby convenience stores or that most nearby restaurants close by about 2000, so the nearest convenience stores are before you enter/exit the famous stretch of hair pin turns/D-corners. Will be better prepared next time!

As soon as I walked in, the receptionist welcomed me very friendly and helped me check in through the tablet. In the community space were free drinks like coffee, tea, softdrinks, juices and a cocktailbar where you could mix drinks by yourself. Also a really nice place to relax and from there you could access the onsen, which also had an outdoor bath. Since I stayed only for a night on a weekday in December, there weren't a lot of guests, so it was very relaxing.

The interior is a little old, but still functional.

Great hostel for the price--very pleased. They have coin laundry and a fridge/freezer/dining tables next to the dorms. Bring a pair of noise cancelling ear plugs and a night mask, and you'll sleep great. I had no problem with the noise or lights, and I'm a very light sleeper. There is food nearby, although nothing crazy. We had some late night sushi down the road and it was fantastic and cheap (the best I had during my trip). Otherwise, I bought some microwave snacks from Nikko town for lunch. First breakfast was great, second breakfast was fine but not worth the price. They provide coffee, tea, juice, milk, rice, miso soup and a reasonably sized breakfast (but it costs $15/day). I didn't purchase dinner because it was so expensive. The staff was friendly, the location was great, and the facilities were amazing! Free drinks and snacks in the lounge, games, ping pong, and more. Safe location. We came March 2024, it was snowing and rather vacant in the town, not much to see or do.

Tattoos and coverings were strictly banned. Meals at the hotel were rather expensive and only offered at 7:30 and 8:00 AM so planned ahead. Common space areas close too early (~10pm).

excellent stay in an unusual place - part ryokan, part hostel, with a fantastic indoor/outdoor onsen and a beautiful lounge overlooking the lake, complimentary snacks and drinks (very appreciated!), hammocks, and a well-stocked manga library (in Japanese, but the reading pods are great!) - My son and I loved the place, it was full of surprises and we highly recommend it - especially with younger adults/teenagers!

not many places around for dinner (none really!) - we failed to book for dinner at the hotel and couldnt find a table at nearby recommended restaurants! who would have thought it was so difficult to find a nice place for dinner near chuzenji! and zero convenience store around either ...
