This family run hotel has everything you need to enjoy your ski/board stay in Methven. It is walking distance to everything, including the Opuke spa pools! The staff are absolutely wonderful and you can tell a lot of love, sweat and effort goes into keeping this hotel at its best. The included breakfast was fanstastic. HUGE thank you for including gluten free options. This never happens when I travel!
Nothing to the fault of the owners, but the old building is loud. So when a few fellow travelers decided to party all night, we could hear them.

We loved the facilities, with a pool and spa (we only used the spa though). The bed was comfortable. The rooms were warm, with the heater which was really good. The room was nice and clean on arrival. It was a nice stay, would recommend to others if they wanted to stay for a night or 2.
The shower wasn’t the best, the shower hose, wouldn’t stay in place that well, and the water would not stay consistent, went from hot to warm/cold. It was okay; could be improved. It was quite noisy in the mornings/night but that was because of two basketball teams were staying there. It didn’t bother us though.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Loved how there was a games room which helped us while waiting for our time at the hot pools because it was raining and they were happy to let us hang until then. There's a big pool and spa and bar on-site as well as a dining room which a continental breakfast was included and when we turned up with our own supermarket food for dinner we were able to use the dining room. There's a microwave and free tea and coffee facilities. Great fit for all. There was a group of students from Brisbane and we couldn't tell they were there overnight. Nice quiet lodge and cozy with the fires going!
The bathroom floor had bits of hair on it but otherwise nice clean facilites

The amenity selection was excellent! Literally absolutely everything has been thought of for every age range. Just wonderful! The staff were excellent - Gordy is a fantastic host. The location of the lodge in relation to the pools and town is great too.
As mentioned in previous reviews, the rooms side of the lodge could be better. The floors and stairs creak a lot! The room walls are very thin so you can hear your neighbours at all hours of the day. The toilet was located right up against the hallway wall in the bathroom. Great if you're a lefty, not so comfortable if you're right handed

The room was very clean. Since I was able to eat breakfast early every day, I was able to ski early. The staff was very courteous, so I was able to stay with peace of mind.I will definitely choose this lodge again next time I come to New Zealand. I really wanted to express my gratitude directly, but since I can't speak English, I regret that. Thank you very much for the great time ☺︎
There can't be any bad points. The staff were very kind to me even though I didn't speak English.

Our room rate was great and it came with a decent continental breakfast every morning, free hot drinks and great facilities such as the games room, spa and drying room. There is a bar and a few simple well priced meals which meant we had the option of eating in. We did that one night and the meals were great. I enjoyed the social atmosphere of the lodge with the shared lounge, kitchen and games room. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. On the Monday, when lots of places in Methven were closed, they organised a different meal for the menu and let all of us know. They washed all of our dishes for us, even the ones we used for food we had provided for ourselves.
That I had to come home

We loved our stay at SXL! I wasn’t expecting such big communal areas- large pool, spa, games room, bar, TV lounge, breakfast and barbecue areas! I imagine when the place is full with big groups- the ski season, functions etc the place would be humming! Our host was very friendly, helpful and relaxed! Heaps of car parking! Very comfy beds! The GF muesli was 10/10 too!
The room we stayed in was smaller than I anticipated however the space is really well utilised. The expansive communal spaces make up for the smaller room so it wasn’t really a drawback 😊 Could’ve done with an extra power point in the room (Unless I missed the spare one??)

The managers are extremely friendly & will go out of their way to help if they can! Close enough to the hot pools to comfortably walk to them. There’s a fancy restaurant next door at the lodge, 2 minutes walk away. The property has a pool & spa, with complementary towels. A great outdoor area with beautiful views! The manager can sell you drinks & hot chips, & perhaps something more. The stay includes breakfast of cereals, with tinned fruit, & yogurt, & toast & spreads. Finishes around 10am. Complementary tea, coffee & hot chocolate in the dining room all the time. The double bed is 2 king singles joined together, so it’s big & EXTREMELY comfortable! During our stay, it was very quiet.
It’s a little dated, with no lift to the upstairs, so oinking of luggage up the stairs is required. The shower over bath is a bit of a pain for stepping in & out of, & the stupid shower curtain clings to you.

The location was perfect only a couple of minutes away from Opuke hot pools that we went to close to the town centre for meals, great walks which we did. Breakfast at the lodge was delicious, the facilities there were exceptional and the staff were so lovely and welcoming. Our room was so clean and warm with a view of the mountains and so peaceful and quiet. We loved the games room and had so much fun there.
Nothing we loved every moment we stayed at the Lodge!
