It’s a very unique property, sitting secluded by Rakaia River, West facing balcony looking directly at north east side of Mt Hutt. Trees, singing birds, fantails. It’s a peaceful, quiet, healing place. If u think it’s gonna be cold and damp in this location, u r wrong. Units Structure are concrete, keep the warm sunshine thru windows inside the unit. I will definitely come back here every winter, 40 mins drive up to Mt Hutt Ski field, 15 minutes to Methven. Our unit came with fully equipped kitchen, heaters, electric blankets, clean bedding n towels, allocated carpark n wifi. In house restaurant, Jo solo guitar performance was beautiful, and Chef Butch (owner) steaks was amazing, the seafood green curry goes perfectly with rice.

Nothing! Kitchen bathroom well keep in the late 70s style, but match up with the Victorian Tudor style. Nothing wrong with it, I still love it.

Amazing location. The views are spectacular. Fantastic bird life. Jo and Butch are wonderful hosts and really elevated the experience. This is not some corporate run operation, it's run by people who care. Take the time to hear their stories, they are very interesting people.

We both found the bed too hard. A good mattress topper would help. To be fair, we both have back backs and are sensitive to to firm beds. Other than that, we found the rest of the facilities to be very comfortable.

Mt Hutt Lodge was one of those's rare gems one finds when traveling. As a skier its location was much closer to the Mt Hutt ski fields than the town of Methven and situated on a high bluff overlooking the Rakaia Gorge with scenic views across to Mt Hutt that were truly spectacular, anyone considering a ski trip to Mt Hutt would be crazy to stay in Methven when such a magnificent location such as Mt Hutt Lodge is available. The staff, who were all locals, were professional and courteous , and the owners and managers Butch and Jo , were passionate about there local area and ever helpful with any needs we had. A well stocked bar and restaurant on site provided all we could want to eat and drink, with expertly cooked steak , and local salmon. For any guests that were interested Jo holds an informal information session in the bar, with light food provided where she covers in detail all of the local tourist sights and activities in the area, but ask her at any time , and she will be happy to help. Only an hour from Christchurch and beautifully situated at the foot of the mountains, this is the must stay location for anybody considering a vacation in the Canterbury region.

We only had time for a 5 night stay, would have preferred 2 weeks.

The location is breathtaking. The proprietors Jo and Butch are the epitome of warm, welcome, professional and attentive hosts who go over and above to interact with guests as well as secure their comfort. We were also provided with helpful information regarding our forward travels and the food was sensational. Staying for 2 nights was not enough.

Full kitchen, the views and just the over all place was fantastic. The owners were amazing and very friendly I would come back again.

The bed was uncomfortable, I couldn’t sleep on it the springs were digging into my back and I ended up having to curl up on the 2 seater couch. Better mattress or even a mattress topper to bring some comfort to sleep.

This place is run by a lovely, friendly couple. The room has its own little garden with a stunning view of the river and mountains. The dining area has a small fireplace for warmth, just like the cozy scenes I remember from childhood cartoons.

If there is kitchen in my room will be nicely

The Lodge overlooks Rakaia Gorge and is a very beautiful setting - the room was lovely and the bar/restaurant was also wonderful as it is a bit remote so having these facilities were very welcome. Food cooked by Butch was lovely and we were treated to a lovely serenade by Jo - a wonderful evening. Would love to go back with more time and take in some of the fishing experiences

There really wasn't anything could find fault with

A very warm welcome from Butch and Jo, despite our latish arrival (and a complementary glass of chardonnay to boot). Perfect for a scenic stay on our quick exit from Christchurch after our arrival at the airport. The river views from the lodge are impressive. The lodge is an older style but our standard room was comfortable.

Jo & Butch made us very welcome and helped us to plan the trip. For the room it was extremely comfortable the view out across the Raikaka Gorge and mountains was stunning. Also Butch cooked us a lovely tasty evening meal. Wish we could have stayed longer :-)

was in a lovely area, beautiful views. Meet by owner and shown to room. Rooms were lovely and warm. A place that would be lovely in the summer and winter months.

Was worried about young children playing around the grounds as had a looked like a long drop into bushes, thought could of been fenced off. But other than that was a nice place.
