Location is fantastic and the staff was really super. The view was beautiful facing the water. The room was very clean.

The room I had facing the water room 208, was so small it is not possible for 2 people to walk around comfortably in the room at the same time. They don't have a picture of this room on the site or a picture of this bathroom. The bathroom could not have been any smaller. It looks like maybe they put it in a closet. The hotel, hallway, room and especially the bathroom would not be suitable if someone was physically challenged getting around.

The location of the hotel is superb! I stayed in the same hotel 17 years ago and happy to return! I booked a junior suite at the corner of the property with a panorama view of the lake and the chapel bridge! It is so close to literally everything! You get your shopping, sightseeing done just outside of the doorstep. The room is not the most modern kind but the view overcomes everything. The setting of the room is nice and the coffee machine is big volume and with great options! The cleaning of the room is always very thorough and super efficient! Every time we stepped out for a quick bite or a walk in the morning the ladies would have already cleaned up our room spotlessly! And the turndown night service is what my daughter always look forward to, comes with heart shape chocolate. Thank you ladies! The ice making machine at the hallway is very handy and can easily cool your drinks or for go out water bottle filling.

The sound proof was really bad. If the guests stay next to you are loud or heavy walker. You won’t miss a beat. We had a mother daughter (Same like us) next to us the first night and I think they were having some serious conversation with loud speaking and crying. I had to knock on their door two times. Then an older couple the following days, then there was no problem. We booked junior suite and was told no breakfast due to we book from bookings.com. It is a bit embarrassing that we pay EUR600 per night in a (good) four star hotel with no breakfast. The water temperature at shower was not very stable and changes during the shower to be either too hot or too cold depending on usage. The charging outlet is not very useful.

Lucerne was our biggest surprise of our 12 day trip in Switzerland. We all loved the city and especially loved this hotel. It is magical staying on the river and I highly recommend paying the extra money to get a river view (w balcony if it is available). The area of this hotel is very charming with cobblestone pathways and painted buildings. You can walk to so many stores and restaurants. We are a family of 5 so we reserved one room with a king and twin and one room with a king bed. We had the breakfast both mornings and it was really yummy. The lady that served us could not have been nicer to my children. She was lovely. They have a buffet spread of pastries, meats, etc. and then you can order eggs, pancakes and other items off the menu which are included if you get the prepaid breakfast. They even had fondue chocolate marshmallows which my kids enjoyed. This was one of the few hotels that we stayed in Switzerland that actually had a/c which we enjoyed. The hotel itself is a bit on the older side but don't let that stop you from staying here. It is very lovely. As a side note, if you have a car, you need to drive on a street that cars aren't allowed (unless you have a reservation) to reach the hotel. We drove around for a bit and couldn't figure out the location because our navigation wouldn't let us drive on the street. You drive to the hotel and then they park the car for you. Highly recommend adding at least two days to your vacation in Lucerne and I highly recommend this hotel.

Seems like this is very common in Switzerland but the pillows are always flat. It would have been nice having extra pillows in the closet.

Hotel Des Balances is an amazing property in a prime location in the historic district on the river in Lucerne. We paid a little extra for river view rooms and it was so worth it! Our rooms were on the top floor of the hotel and had balconies which overlooked the river and the Chapel Bridge. The hotel rooms were beautiful and air conditioned, which was not easy to find in Switzerland. It was very warm during our trip so the air conditioning was appreciated. There is an elevator to get to all floors and the hotel provided very detailed instructions for driving to the hotel and valet parked our rental car. You could not find a better hotel in a better location in Lucerne. We would return to Lucerne just to stay in this hotel. Do not hesitate to book!

Nothing could have been better, this is an amazing hotel in one of the most beautiful locations in the world!

The hotel is in a wonderful location, only a short walk from the train station, between two historic bridges, and with the old town a minute's walk from the hotel's front door. The staff were really friendly and helpful and could not do any more to answer our questions and help us with transport queries. The restaurant is wonderful and well worth booking. We also booked a room with river view, which is well worth the money. There is a small balcony and it was great waking up to that view in the morning. The beds are huge and very comfortable.

We found the breakfast was extremely pricey, even for Switzerland!

Beautiful room with a stunning view (we had a city view, it was very pretty). The location is great, walking distance from the train station and right next to the lake. The staff were very friendly. Our room was beautifully decorated and we were given very nice soaps, shampoos etc as well as some welcome fudge. They also brought some chocolates each night and asked if everything was food and of we needed anything. When asked for an extra pillow we were given one quickly. Lots of nice restaurants around the hotel. We enjoyed our stay.

The pillows are big and soft and good quality. Some people can sleep on soft pillows. Myself and my son can't. Would be good to have firmer pillows or the option of firmer pillows. I didn't ask, so perhaps they would've accommodated us. But this is really the only downside of our stay. The rest was great

I LOVED this hotel!! While it is a little more pricey than other options, it was well worth the splurge. The building itself is precious there's a great terrace and bar/restaurant. The service was great, which was kicked off with them giving us a voucher for a free drink at the hotel bar (always a very nice touch!). The room was adorable - super cozy and one of the most comfortable beds I've encountered traveling around Europe (which I do very frequently). The products in the bathroom were also great (again always a nice touch). I would absolutely recommend staying here and hope I'm able to go back soon!

The only thing I didn't like was that I only stayed 1 night! I love this hotel!

The River View Rooms are great, by the river, across from a famous church and facing the beautiful Kappelbrucke Bridge. The view day and night is really what you are paying for. The hotel restaurant has great food, much better than the busy river-side restaurants that are over-crowded and therefore cannot cook decent food fast enough. The free welcome drink was a nice touch. The staff was very courteous. Room has nice tea/coffee selections.

The price is high

We just loved this hotel. A great location on the river front of Luzern and only a few minutes walk from the train station. Warm welcome on arrival and very helpful and friendly staff throughout our stay. Our room was a good size with a comfy bed! Decor and furniture very tasteful and good quality. We booked a room with a river view … and it was spectacular! And very much enjoyed the coffee making machine and gift snacks. Complimentary drinks in the wine bar on arrival was also a nice touch. We will certainly stay here again next time in Luzern!!

We don’t want to complain as this is definitely a ‘10 star’ hotel but we would have preferred a walk in rain shower, rather than shower in bath.

The location is incredible, right on the lake and in the middle of old town Lucerne. The room was beautiful and well decorated. The view of the lake, Swiss Alps and surrounding area is breathtaking.

We were not warned to put the screen down (we were not even told there was a screen) and the bugs infiltrated our room in the evening! A simple warning would have prevented this miserable occurrence.
