I love the courtyard rooms. I absolutely loved the view from my window across the courtyard grass to the great hall. It was like stepping back in time to a more peaceful and relaxed morning time. I loved the gardens walk, and wish I could have done the entire circuit at 8 miles in the rain wouldn’t have been enjoyable, so I did an hour around Instead. There was live music on the lawn, I opened the windows in my room and just listened whilst relaxing in the comfy bed. Bliss Everywhere was so clean and tidy too. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly! Truly cannot wait to come back for a longer stay, without my children in tow!
The window in my room was a little crooked, due to its age etc, and took off with the wind a bit, so I had to wiggle it back into place and leave it closed. But it was a small Price to pay to stay in such beautiful surroundings.

The location was superb tucked away from the main road and in amongst the trees. The gardens were also beautiful and very tranquil. The accommodation buildings were located either side of a pretty courtyard and the surrounding buildings looked lovely, all constructed from the same materials. Breakfast was very good with a great choice. I particularly liked the freshly made rhubarb compote.
The room was a little “tired” and would benefit from a refresh but the view from the room was great. The menu was quite limited for our group. I think it would maybe benefit from a few “pub classics”. We found it quite expensive and didn’t stay to eat after the first night as we struggled to find something for everyone on the menu. The food we did have was beautifully cooked.

This was my third stay at Dartington Hall. My single room was small but spotlessly clean. It was a little stuffy because of the heat, but reception gave me a fan, which solved the problem. The staff, as always, were helpful and friendly, and the premises couldn't be better.
The White Hart restaurant appears to have gone upmarket. This is no bad thing in itself, but the choice of meals is much smaller. The chicken pie I had was probably the best chicken pie I have ever tasted, but sadly, there were no accompanying vegetables. I paid £5 for what amounted to a single serving of spring greens! Two ladies who were there with their children concurred that there was nothing on the menu that interested the kids. The Sea Trout Inn, just up the road, had wider choices and was much better value. I would have given 10/10 if not for this small problem.

In my opinion, Datrington is the best accommodation in the area. You can't beat the location; set in a historic building, adjacent to fabulous gardens and a safe walk along the river into quirky Totnes or to the Dartington Cider Press Center. The staff are always polite and helpful. There is a good variety of (inclusive) breakfast food items, including pastries, juice, etc as well as hot-cooked food. There is a (quiet) pub and beer garden offering quality food a few steps away from the accommodation. And all this is at a very reasonable price too, so what's not to like?

Absolutely fantastic historic setting and grounds. Really enjoyed walking around the gardens. Very convenient for Totnes and a good central base for doing business in the South Hams generally. Breakfast was very good and the room was clean and comfortable. Overall very good value and an enjoyable stay.
No hot water from either shower or basin in the morning but probably a temporary glitch. There was a band/entertainer playing in a marquee on the lawn in front of the pub from the time I arrived late afternoon until after dark at a ridiculously overpowering volume which annoyed both myself and, apparently, other guests. The lads in and around reception in the morning could have been a bit more polished – one just marched past me without acknowledgement when I gave way in the doorway and when I handed back the key I was told "yeah that's fine" without any enquiry as to whether the stay had been okay. Apart from that staff were friendly and helpful.

I Found the Hall fabulous. Loved the grounds, the room was clean and had everything i needed, tho the bathroom was across the from my room it was no bother at all and very clean. The staff were superb, checking in I was shown to my accomodation on checking out the young woman called me a taxi for which i was very grateful. The breakfast was hot plentiful and well presented. Again the restaurant area was very clean and the staff wete lovely.
I didn't like that the local Taxi's are very reluctant to ferry guests here, upon arrival at the station i was told i would not get any one to take me to the Hall and i should stay in town! Thankfully i did get a taxi, but coming home after a family meet up i couldnt get one at all, luckily my nephew had room in his car for me . Also it took a few tries before the young receptionist managed to get me one to go back to the station. It wA such a shame as i would love to come here for some R&R. But not being a driver it is just too worrisome relying on a hit and miss Taxi service

An unusual set-up in a large historic house on its own estate not far from Totnes. I had a small single room, clean, comfortable, with good wifi. Breakfast in the onsite pub (part of the medieval hall) was included (you can also have dinner or an evening drink there). There was also a free concert in the evening (quite loud, but fortunately a type of music I enjoy, and it finished at 21.30). Plus there are acres of landscaped gardens to explore. Definitely not your average hotel!
My only (minor) complaint was that reception is not well sign-posted for those coming on foot from Totnes.

I booked a single room with use of a shared toilet and shower room. The room was basic but pleasant and had good facilities, with kettle and tea/coffee making facilities, TV, fan and iron. It was perfect for one person and was spotlessly clean and tidy and the bed was extremely comfy. Breakfast in the morning was excellent and Dartington Hall is stunning. The bathing and toilet facilities were shared between 2 rooms, but I don't think anyone was staying in the other one, so I had them to myself and they were just across the corridor. The staff were also very friendly and helpful.

I know Dartington Hall well so not too many surprises. It was great to have the Barn Theatre with films I liked The Green Cafe. I was lucky to be there when WonderGlow was on Gardens are lovely to walk around Easy parking
Breakfast in the White Hart - first day I felt a bit of an idiot waiting for a member of staff to appear to tell me what the procedure was. I would have liked a few light items on the evening menu as I can’t eat a lot in the evenings My bedroom was nice but needs up dating. New carpet, decorating, and a few bits of plastering In the condition it is I would have begrudged paying that price as I was upgraded from a single room which had a leak

It felt like walking into Hogwarts. The grounds and building are beautiful. The onsite pub was friendly, helpful and unique by being situated in the Great Hall.
I wasn't a fan of the external bathroom option. Although a dressing gown was provided, you do feel vulnerable and inconvenienced by the situation. Especially being so open to anyone walking by. My biggest fault was the telephone service. The information on the lead up to my visit was informative and they ask you to call if you're checking in after 8pm to make arrangements. I called and left a message, as did my partner on my behalf, and I never received a call back to make these arrangements. This left me slightly concerned as to what would happen on my arrival.
