The food was great, including breakfast. The service we got from everyone was also great, particularly from a lady named Becky who was very helpful from the minute we checked in, helping us arrange transport to the venue and generally being very pleasant. The rooms, along with the dog themes were lovely. There is lots of dog references and a book was in our room. We stayed in room 1, The Boxer, but all the rooms appeared to be of an excellent standard. The location was perfect for us as we were attending a wedding at nearby Colshaw Hall. The venue, The Dog, appeared to be busy with local guests which indicates it's popularity and implies how good it is. Would definitely recommend this pub and it's high quality accommodation.

It was more than we were wanting to pay for the one night stay. But the proximity of the hotel, to the venue we were going to, offset some of the cost of paying more for transport to the venue etc.

The location of the Dog was ideal for us as we were attending a nearby wedding at Merrydale Manor. We were a bit concerned beforehand as the check-in time of 2pm clashed with the wedding start time so we weren't sure whether we'd be able to get changed etc beforehand. However, upon arrival the staff were great and allowed us to check in early despite the room not being fully ready. We were then able to change and leave our bags etc and our room was fully ready when we returned to later on after the wedding. The Dog offered a shuttling service from the Merrydale so we got a lift back without needing to get a taxi. The breakfast was also great in the morning, high quality with plenty of options available. We were also able to leave our bags at the Dog when returning to the Merrydale to collect our car.

There wasn't really anything I could fault to be honest. The wifi stopped working in some parts of the room, but that for me is nitpicking and it didn't really affect our stay at all.

It is a beautifully refurbished property with a lot of history and retains all of it’s charm. The bedroom was really comfortable and stylishly furnished . The location is stunning surrounded by beautiful peaceful countryside. The food and drinks were first class and service friendly and attentive even though it was a busy evening when I stayed.

Shame that the pub garden overlooks the large carpark but it is nicely done. It was a perfect sunny evening with a good atmosphere. I do like dogs (I have my own) but the doggy decor in the bedrooms was a bit over the top for my taste.

I loved just about everything about this place. The friendliness of the staff, who were very welcoming from the moment I walked in, to their attentiveness at mealtimes. The whole place is smart, spotless and comfortable. The food is delicious, with an excellent range of menu choices. I loved the spacious feel of the bar and dining area while, at the same time, it feeling cosy and friendly. There is also a great community atmosphere throughout, which felt very homely. The room was really comfortable and again, spotlessly clean.

If I were to be picky, I would say the sound proofing isn’t great. Conversations in the bar were audible, although not clear. Patrons coming and going at night were a little noisy from the rooms but acceptable, considering the nature of the property. Personally, it didn’t detract from the enjoyment of my stay.

What a lovely, super dog friendly place, amazing staff, great food, comfy, spacious yet warm and cosy. Hospitality at its best. We were welcomed so warmly and treated so very well by all. The most enjoyable stay one could ask for. We were extremely well fed and watered with delicious food and cocktails by the most friendly, delightful staff. All our requests were accommodated with ease. Charlie dog had a fantastic time too, he had so much fuss and his very own treat made for him, they are sooooo dog friendly. The rooms were very warm and pleasant, I appreciated the pretty cups and saucers, real coffee etc. They also smell wonderful, seriously the nicest smelling room I've stayed in. Very comfortable beds. Nice furnishings. A nice clean bathroom with walk in shower and lovely soap that didn't make my skin react, for a change, much appreciated! Breakfast really was excellent as was the coffee. I cannot recommend this place enough. There are nice little touches everywhere that set it apart from the norm. But the staff here, they really are wonderful. A home from home but with far better food and hospitality!

There is nothing to dislike

Overall a very good experience. Clean spacious room and good shower Able to collect key before check in time was 2pm- was attending wedding locally. for 1 pm Collection (taxi service)from wedding venue to pub - very good. Staff friendly and helpful

Not sure if i missed something but there didn't seem to be much offering of non cooked breakfast - i.e cereal, fruit and yoghurt, continental pastries... The cooked breakfast options were v good.... however when asked if item could be removed it was not possible?

Location is very quite, romantic and definitely a destination place. Breakfast was really good. Full English for me, thank you!!

No EV charging facilities. Had to rush there from work and would have preferred to charge overnight than sit looking at the robo thing the next morning on the motorway. I am the Partnership Director for Go Zero - we provide EV chargers and software to allow destination businesses to generate revenue from EV owners. Keep it yourself! Get in touch if you need to.

Convenient for an overnight stop travelling from the South to Scotland. Given a very warm welcome and a friendly relaxed atmosphere to The Dog. Delicious evening meal and a superb breakfast to set you up for the day. Room nicely comfortable and very well equipped. Twin rooms are not easy to find and this one comes highly recommended. In keeping with the name, our young large friendly dog was also made to feel very welcome and remained very relaxed in different surroundings. A really enjoyable stay thank you.

Nothing.

The decor is gorgeous in the rooms itself and the pub also smelt beautiful in our room. Everywhere is so clean the friendly staff cant do enough for you. Delicious breakfast and we had a very tasty meal in the evening.

As pets are allowed to stay for a fee I thought maybe a bowl in room would be provided and a treat. There's not anywhere for them to go to the toilet just walk around the carpark or down the road and no bins were available outside for there poo.

Nice and clean. Nice en-suite and coffee making facilities in the room. I thought the bed wasn’t very comfortable as it was high up and squashy, but I know this is just a personal preference. Breakfast was good, staff were helpful and polite.

We were told check out was 10am by the manager but that they were quite lenient and no problem if we didn’t check out until 10.30. We then came down to check out and have breakfast at 9.50am and apparently the lady with the blonde hair who works there had made a comment to our other friends who were also staying over about how late we were leaving it and “did we know check out was 10am?!” Which I thought was rude especially given that we were actually early checking out and the manager had already said it was ok to stay a bit later.
