The character and vibe of the hotel was perfect and just as I had hoped/expected. Very traditional British with the extra spice of some real Rolling Stones history. The bar is very cool and a must to visit! The location is great close to Hyde Park and the Royal Albert Hall but also easy walking distance to Harrods, museums, tons of restaurants and shopping as well as South Kensington Underground station.

The breakfast! It was way below our expectations. The presentation of the food was ok and the staff pleasant but my wife's Eggs Benedict was cold and my "Full English" overcooked and dry. My wife asked for a new EB, which was just OK. I didn't bother with mine. I thought that at £27+mandatory service charge per person there should be no fuss whatsoever.

Location was great. I didn't have breakfast so I can't comment on that

The service charges were not anticipated which cost an extra £60. I thought that the price on booking.com was the full price I would pay so I was a bit surprised at the additional charges.

The staff were very well trained and had the residents needs at heart. I cannot praise them highly enough.

Star Hotels need to improve certain maintenance in the guest suites. For example, the basin in our ensuite (205)was blocked and one of the windows was stuck. This is not any reflection on the staff, this needs to be attended to by the owners of the Hotel. This is an excellent situation next to the Albert hall but the hotel should not become too complacent because of this! Guests paying top prices for accommodation expect value for their money.

The location of this hotel was excellent. Within a five minute walk of the Royal Albert Hall. The bedroom was spacious and comfortable, the decor was excellent, and the bar was cosy and inviting.

Beware of the service charge which is added onto EVERYTHING. It is not clear as to whether this is discretionary but it appeared that I was expected to pay it. Two drinks at the bar had £4.50 added, our breakfast had a service charge as did the room. We were only there one night and had one meal at the hotel but paid £30 in service charges.

Excellently situated for the Royal Albert Hall. The room was clean, staff friendly.

Room and bed were very small considering the price. Breakfast was very expensive so found a local cafe. Asked to pay a service charge when checking out. As we only stayed for one night we thought this was out of order as this was not mentioned when we booked or checked in.

Lovely clean hotel in a great location.lots of history in the hotel

Did not like being asked to pay a discretionary payment on arrival at the hotel. To then again at breakfast being asked to sign for a discretionary payment. After complaining, we were not asked again. If all the discretionary payments were made, this would be a significant payment, bearing in mind the hotel prices had increased for the coronation.

The Victorian look & feel is wonderful. The historic bar is magnificent, as are the staff. The location is perfect for the Albert Hall, Kensington, Chelsea and Hyde Park.

As our fourth visit to The Gore, we went knowing the rooms are small, but it's still top of the very small lost of downsides.

Location was relatively good, close to good museums, Royal Albert Hall and Hyde Park. Receptionists were generally nice and friendly. Room is very decent.

Had an issue with one receptionist during check-in, claimed that I had not paid for my stay yet, despite me showing her my credit card statement to prove that my stay had already been paid. She asked me to check with Booking.com about it. That affected me quite a bit. Also, complimentary toiletries were not topped up daily when used. Able to hear people from the next room talking. Did not affect me much as they were rather considerate and did not make too much noise. Imagine if you encounter inconsiderate travellers.

Great location when visiting the Royal Albert Hall. Hotel is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Breakfast was good although service very slow and they had no pastries which seemed quite odd. Was there celebrating my husband's 60th and our wedding anniversary and so 4 truffles were left in the room for us- a nice touch but then we had paid over £700 for 2 nights.

There's a 5% discretionary charge on top of your bill and for everything you order from the bar. The sockets above the dressing table are not standard, so had to struggle to get under the table to use a hairdryer and charge phones etc. The room was lovely but spoiled by a huge air conditioning unit vented through hardboard across the window.

Staff very friendly. Location perfect, as we wanted to be near the Albert Hall. The history of the building is fascinating and we like the many original features, for example the entrance hall and reception, the wood panelled lift. Lovely bar and quiet sitting room. The staff told us stories about the Rolling Stones partying there in the seventies, Judy Garland staying in room 211 and leaving six pairs of shoes behind, etc. It didn't seem to be busy so we never had to queue for the lift or reception. It felt very homely.

The room was minuscule and facing the back, with a big airconditioning unit with its hose hanging out the window! I guess we must have been in one of the basic rooms, even though it was £230 a night plus room tax. There was a lot of furniture, but it was old and characterful. The plumbing was as you might expect in an old building (eg cistern taking ages to refill) but on the plus side there was plenty of hot water and a tub. Only 3 standard power sockets in the room, and two of them were behind the big chest of drawers, so we had to move it out from the wall so we could both charge our phones at the same time!
