The building, the staff, the breakfast and the location. We enjoyed the Tap room as it had the feel of pubs in years gone by, no tv or loud music.

Our bed was a bit small to what we are used to. I suppose I should have booked a twin room. Personally I prefer a proper shower as opposed to one in the bath. As one ages climbing in and out can become a problem. Breakfast could be extended for another hour for those that enjoy more time in bed when on vacation.

Nice little bar with lots of outside space ( courtyard and garden areas ) The staff are really friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was perfectly acceptable ( yoghurts and cereal selection followed by full English or any combination of items, kippers also available all served with tea/coffee and toast ) There is no evening meal availability but the hotel is situated in the centre of town with a wide range of pubs and eateries within easy walking distance.

As it is an old coaching inn the rooms on the upper floors might cause a problem for anyone with mobility issues but there are ground and 1st floor rooms so just specify a preference when booking.

Loved the bathroom, fabulous bath, large shower and twin basins with extra mood lighting. Comfortable large bed. On site parking right in the town. Helpful staff.

Needed to use electric heater as radiators not working. Breakfast choices very limited and staff had to multitasking across breakfast service and Reception. No-one present on Reception even at 8pm. Got a parking penalty ticket even though the details of our car were entered onto the their system by a staff member.

Very friendly, helpful staff. Extremely clean, large room with cosy antique style furniture. Breakfast well cooked & plentiful. Beautiful bathroom. Perfect location for everything needed. Shops, bars and restaurants nearby and walking distance from salt marshes and lovely walks.

No hairdryer in room but apparently I could have asked for one. Mattress very soft (not good for the back). Shame no food available in the evening but plenty of places to eat nearby.

Great location, staff very friendly. Very quaint building.

Would have liked more time between courses at breakfast and would have been nice to see some flowers on the tables. Dining room is a bit stark. Would have been nice to have had better bread and local produce (ie kippers) rather than those you can buy in Tesco. Poached eggs slightly too well done. As soon as you walk in you are asked what you'd like to drink rather than letting you sit down first. Bed linen was spotless but unfortunately smelt a little musty.

Location was great. Lots of places to eat locally. Parking was available. Nice pub downstairs with good ales. Room was lovely. Bed comfortable. Big bathroom. Bags of character. Room 15.

The wall between the next room is paper thin and you can hear everything, conversations and TV. This is disturbing. I can see why they left ear plugs in the room saying its for traffic or sounds of the town. Think they know the walls are thin! This is my only gripe really. My neighbour decided to watch TV until gone 1am meaning had limited sleep.

If you like to stay somewhere different and quirky with plenty of character and history, rather than some of the formulaic, corporate hotels out there, this will be right up your street. This is an old coaching inn with the bar on one side of the entrance and the accommodation on the other. The Reception desk was a counter behind which was a cluttered area featuring a massive photocopier – but don’t let that put you off. The Lounge was amazing – like being in a National Trust property and the panelled Dining Room was equally impressive. When we saw our room, it was like we were on the set of a period drama – but it was very comfortable, with an adjoining (more modern) good-sized bathroom. Other than breakfast in the Dining Room, no food is available at the property but plenty of pubs and restaurants are with a 10-minute walk. Breakfast offered several choices and was well-prepared and plentiful. Parking is in a public cark park adjoining the rear of the hotel – this has a pay and display machine but you can register your car electronically at the hotel Reception and it costs nothing.

This 14th-15th Century Victorian Hotel is Amazing very Historical, Staff Hospitality was 10/10 ; Breakfasts were outstanding and delicious and catered for everyone. Would recommend a stay here for Everyone, Comfortable Kingsize beds with Tea and coffee machines in rooms and supplementary’ posh biscuits. En-suite with Bath and Shower and Luxury Washing Soap Dispensers.

I haven’t any faults from our 2 nights stay at this incredible hotel.

15th century building in a nice location. Very comfortable, with clean modern en-suites and the room rate included a full breakfast. I have stayed here three times now and will continue to book.

Parking, the first time I stayed it was a bit tricky to find at the rear of the hotel. Look out for the two white gateposts on the corner. A clear sign on the approach would be good. I know where to turn on now, but first time visitors might do the one way loop!

Perfect place to access local high street restaurants for dinner. Breakfast is superb and nicely cooked. Staff are very helpful and welcoming. The beds are more or less comfortable (it seems I sleep better than at home, according to my smartwatch and I wake up relaxed)

The first time I used Blue Boar in Maldon I had difficulty to locate the car park. That is the only "negative" note. Now I know, I can park the car when I arrive and pop to the pub in the evening.
