Room was very spacious, very clean, beds very comfortable & ensuite bathroom was a bonus as it stated it had a private bathroom. Nice touch having toiletries provided. Tea & coffee facilities in the room as well. Our stay was very quiet in the main, hotel is situated back from the road. This hotel is definitely worth the money. Nice touch having the history of the building on an A4 sheet.

Maybe put a dampener on the middle entrance door as when people go in and out it slams. As no breakfast or meals are provided maybe put a list of local restaurants/ take aways for your residents.

The house is like something from 'The Adams Family' and set in beautiful grounds. Really breathtaking historic interior, (we have never stayed in such a grand house before!) albeit a little tired decor wise and fairly basic en-suite facilities. We didn't know the area at all, but there are some stunning places to visit including the astonishing World Heritage site New Lanark in easy travelling distances. We couldn't understand how it was so cheap until we got there and discovered it was room only! (Several basic cafe / fast food restaurants within a short drive)

More modern facilities, but that would almost certainly double the cost! Even a simple continental breakfast provision would be a wonderful addition to the stay.

This historic property has an exceptional sense of grandeur about it - it's like staying in a stately home, the rooms are enormous if somewhat tired decor. It's a bit weird staying in a room only place - we've always had breakfast in other places we've stayed, but this is not an option, but that does make this place cheaper. There were several cafes and takeaways just down the road so getting food wasn't really a problem. We stayed here to be close to West Calder Dog's Trust to visit our new pup, but discovered some exquisite towns and countryside around Lanarkshire that we never knew about and would heartily recommend

Strange reception - basically handed your key and given a card with emergency contact numbers on it and left to your own devices. The caretakers live in a flat on site so you could frequently smell cooking smells from their kitchen which was doubly odd given the room only policy!

I was staying in Auchter room, in the ground floor: felt like I was sleeping inside the former library of the historic manor, and it was a snuggy experience. Everything was clean and nice, with a comfy bed. The outside of the property is charming and surrounded by vegetation and a nice flower garden. The room was so spacious, with a big TV and old-fashioned furniture matching the decor -- however it did not feel dated at all. The complimentary tea was a nice touch. And the smell of the soap was absolutely delightful!

Doors opening and closing were kind of noisy, but the good thing is the small amount of people lodged does not create much traffic. My room had an external bathroom, that meant I had to get out of my room to a nearby door across the reception in order to get to it -- but I didn't mind as it was so clean and nice. The room had big wooden window shutters, but is missing some blackout curtain or similar on the conservatory door as light gets in quite early in the morning.

I liked the room, it had a victorian vibe to it. The room was spacious and the beds were comfortable

It was hard to find the place, it was hidden away and there was no sign outside to say it was Bonkle house . It was very dark the street lights was not bright enough. The Sat Nav kept saying you arrived at your destination but we couldn't see it we had to get out and ask a passer by. The place needs flood lights and a big noen sign saying this is Bonkle house.

I love it here. Rooms are massive and beautiful gardens and it's great value for money. The new housekeeper was really friendly and her housekeeping was exceptional.

It is always so cold . The heating goes off after Spring ( I'm here a lot) and it has been freezing in the room when I'm trying to work. The final say is No Heating On In Summer from the boss however cold it is. Pack your own heater !

The building is stately and picturesque. There's a beautiful stained glass window between the first and second floors. Whenever I asked for more towels or coffee supplies, they were immediately provided. I knew in advance that they don't provide breakfast. I found out that there aren't many options for several miles. Then I discovered the Morrison's a little over 2 miles away has a great cafe open from 8 am, inexpensive, and they cook simple breakfasts like toast, eggs, sausage.

There could have been a second comfortable chair in the room

The room was massive and exceeded our expectations. The host was very friendly. The grounds had some seating on the grass and there was a cute little wooden house/shed to sit in just at the side of the property. Clean, just what we wanted to get our heads down. The shower had good pressure, enough for us.

There could have been a mini fridge in the room to keep food and drink cold as there are no food facilities or bars. The paintwork could do with a touch-up apart from that nothing much else. A bit more seating would be good as the garden is quite big.
