This historic property has an exceptional sense of grandeur about it - it's like staying in a stately home, the rooms are enormous if somewhat tired decor. It's a bit weird staying in a room only place - we've always had breakfast in other places we've stayed, but this is not an option, but that does make this place cheaper. There were several cafes and takeaways just down the road so getting food wasn't really a problem. We stayed here to be close to West Calder Dog's Trust to visit our new pup, but discovered some exquisite towns and countryside around Lanarkshire that we never knew about and would heartily recommend

Strange reception - basically handed your key and given a card with emergency contact numbers on it and left to your own devices. The caretakers live in a flat on site so you could frequently smell cooking smells from their kitchen which was doubly odd given the room only policy!

I was staying in Auchter room, in the ground floor: felt like I was sleeping inside the former library of the historic manor, and it was a snuggy experience. Everything was clean and nice, with a comfy bed. The outside of the property is charming and surrounded by vegetation and a nice flower garden. The room was so spacious, with a big TV and old-fashioned furniture matching the decor -- however it did not feel dated at all. The complimentary tea was a nice touch. And the smell of the soap was absolutely delightful!

Doors opening and closing were kind of noisy, but the good thing is the small amount of people lodged does not create much traffic. My room had an external bathroom, that meant I had to get out of my room to a nearby door across the reception in order to get to it -- but I didn't mind as it was so clean and nice. The room had big wooden window shutters, but is missing some blackout curtain or similar on the conservatory door as light gets in quite early in the morning.

I liked the room, it had a victorian vibe to it. The room was spacious and the beds were comfortable

It was hard to find the place, it was hidden away and there was no sign outside to say it was Bonkle house . It was very dark the street lights was not bright enough. The Sat Nav kept saying you arrived at your destination but we couldn't see it we had to get out and ask a passer by. The place needs flood lights and a big noen sign saying this is Bonkle house.

The building is stately and picturesque. There's a beautiful stained glass window between the first and second floors. Whenever I asked for more towels or coffee supplies, they were immediately provided. I knew in advance that they don't provide breakfast. I found out that there aren't many options for several miles. Then I discovered the Morrison's a little over 2 miles away has a great cafe open from 8 am, inexpensive, and they cook simple breakfasts like toast, eggs, sausage.

There could have been a second comfortable chair in the room

The room was massive and exceeded our expectations. The host was very friendly. The grounds had some seating on the grass and there was a cute little wooden house/shed to sit in just at the side of the property. Clean, just what we wanted to get our heads down. The shower had good pressure, enough for us.

There could have been a mini fridge in the room to keep food and drink cold as there are no food facilities or bars. The paintwork could do with a touch-up apart from that nothing much else. A bit more seating would be good as the garden is quite big.

The rooms are enormous. We paid for a double and triple room and got two rooms with double bed, single bed, and sofa area in both. In any other hotel these would be called a family suite and charged at high rates. The house is beautiful, a historic Scottish house from 1860

As other reviewers note there is currently no restaurant so no breakfast. There are renovation works in progress in the grounds so the garden is a bit churned up. It will be amazing when it's all done. Not really negative just to be aware. The corridors in the house could do with some TLC

Easy and efficient check in process. Room was comfortable. Shower was fantastic. Bed was comfortable. Plenty of parking

Bed linen was threadbare in places. Bathroom was clean but extraction fan needed to be cleaned and cleared. Pillows could do with upgrading to better quality. It was quite a cold night and as the duvet was a light one it would have some heating on.

It's a lovely quiet location with off road parking. The room was lovely and clean, tea and coffee facilities provided. The hotel has a charming old world interior. There's an Asda just 2 mins drive away so you can get any additional items really easily. Great place for a stay in the Motherwell area of Scotland.

Nothing bad to say really, could have done with an extra towel but we managed and didn't ask so it was not the fault of the hotel staff. There's no breakfast facilities or fridge in the room but we took food with us so it didn't matter.

The room was nice, loved the wooden window shutters and the ceiling but it was quite a cold day and with the room being so large, it was really cold. I wasn’t prepared for that so had to sit with the bath towels over my legs. Bed and seat were very comfy though.

Lack of heating. I tried turning the radiator valve up but still no heat came on.
