Lovely period building. The contemporary decor works well with the traditinal period setting. Good location for travel to Diss and Norwich and the coast isn't too far away. The staff on Friday and Saturday were friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcome with a free upgrade to the Charless 11 room. The building had ample car parking at the rear. Our room was vey nice with traditional fireplace, 4 poster bed, uneven floors which is how a building of that age should be and the old original staircase was beautiful. Breakfast was good with gluten free and vegetarian options.

Unfortunately the food on Friday night wasn't good. Burger, bun and chips were all burnt. The meal had to go back but we weren't charged which was good. The barman on Sunday evening was curt, surly and seemed to want to get on his mobile phone rather than serve people. He kept throwing bottles from one end of the bar to the other end where the bin was which was noisy. He didn't appear to have any understanding on how to serve drinks and didn't put ice or lemon in a G&T without being asked but he just wasn't refiendly or customer focussed. We got the feeling that we were interrupting him and he let us know it.

Room was spacious, with good bathroom. Breakfast was OK, but extra cost - Eggs Benedict with bacon as they’d run out of ham the previous day. Sizeable car park (no EV chargers yet though).

No wardrobe in room, also the bed’s headboard and the dias upon which the bath was placed were both surrounded by strips of glowing blue LED light, which which I had to fumble behind the bed to switch off, otherwise they’d have lit up the entire room all night long. The bathroom door had to be kept closed all night as the window letting so much light plus they appear to be a water pump hidden behind panelling which would come on and off intermittently throughout the night.

Location is quiet and handy for other places to visit in the area ... near enough to main roads and near to Diss. The hotel is a beautiful old building. We were in the annexe which meant we had a great view of the main building's beautiful architecture. Rooms were warm, bed was comfy, bathroom had bath and over bath shower and was spacious. Tea and coffee and kettle available. Staff were friendly and helpful and personable. Bar food was excellent and well priced. The bar itself had comfy chairs round a roaring fire which was a great focal point for the room and a cosy place to spend a winter evening.

The room we were in needed: - a couple of chairs ... 2 comfy outdoor style stacking chairs would do the trick and offer flexibility. - hooks for hanging clothes on and hangers in the wardrobe - 2 keys would be helpful for w occupants

The room was very spacious and perfect for working in. The huge open fire place would have been a massive bonus in winter. The diner was served in the bar area and the food was great. The service was a little slow because there wasn't 1 person dedicated to serving customers that were eating. But it didn't ruin the experience.

There was no signal and the wifi was a little confusing, there was a different wifi network advertised in the room to what was at reception and I could make it work to start. Once it did work it wasnt a brilliant connection.

Amazing grade 1 listed 17th century coaching Inn. Lovely room with period features , reached by two flights of a stunning wide 17th century staircase.....wide enough presumably for ladies wearing hooped skirts.... King Charles the second stayed there. It is mentioned in one of Charles Dickens Novels. Good pub food in the evening.with generous helpings. Good freshly prepared breakfast Friendly and helpful staff

We were only offered instant coffee with breakfast, perhaps a Nespresso or similar coffee machine could be installed?

The property is very quaint it’s old but definitely worth a visit! We booked a room as we were attending a wedding locally and just needed a bed for the night, the staff are all very friendly and welcoming it was very hot and the fan didn’t work properly however that is no reflection on the hotel as they can’t control the temperature! We arrived a little early and the lovely housekeeper rushed to get our room ready! Breakfast was included in our stay and was more than suffice there was cereal yogurt and hot food. All in all a pleasant stay and I would recommend and return if I were ever to come back to Ipswich!

No negative comments from me.

The Hotel was great and a building of this age, was well looked after. Furnishings and decor, even though had a modern twist, were inkeeping and complimented a 17th Century Hotel. The breakfast was (included) was great and substantial and a great choice too!

Petty things really but no TV channels in the room and both bedside lamps flickered occasionally. A considerable noise, late evening, from the aircon outlet from the kitchens below our John Peck room but it went off eventually.

We liked the historic building and our room had a lot of character. Dinner was good and reasonably priced.

Breakfast was ok but not great. Coffee tasted like instant, the cooked breakfast, though well cooked, was rather cold when it reached us. It seemed that, like many other hotels at the moment, the Scole Inn doesn't have enough staff. One waitress seemed to be looking after the whole room. The following day we found that our account had been debited for food or drink that we hadn't consumed. However, this mistake was rectified after we contacted the hotel and the money was refunded promptly.

My room was lovely ,just what I wanted . My daughter was in panto in Diss at the time so was perfect travel time by car . All staff were very polite and attentive , I was hungry the night I arrived and the kitchen was already closed , however the chef still made a sandwich

The only thing that I didn't like was that they overcharged me for my sandwich and it took a couple of weeks to sort a refund which is why I delayed leaving this review
