Went with my 8 year old daughter for two night . Fab location. Hotel was so lovely , I’ve no idea what any negative comments are on about ! It’s an old seaside hotel & it was clean and lovely ! Would 100 percent g stay again . Beds were so comfy , slept amazing !

Breakfast was traditional. Cereal selection OK. Cooked breakfast, full selection...and all hot! Very good
While we were there the hotel was unable to provide dinner and staff were, generally, unable to recommend any local restaurants

Location is excellent. Sea view from our room. Staff helpful, pleasant and attentive. Breakfast is plentiful with a good selection. All Covid policies strictly adhered to.
Hotel needs reburbishing. New modern lift. Lift Feels unsafe and very old. Evening meals advertised but not available.

After reading the reviews I was rather sceptical as to what to expect, but overall was pleased so please don't let the reviews put you off, we went with an open mind. We got a double room with sea view and a smaller room next door with a single bed and TV and sofa which was great I didn't expect that with taking the dog I thought we would be put in a lesser room, so that was definitely a bonus. Room was clean, bedding very clean, décor very tired but it is an old building so I suppose adds a bit of character, having the sea view was great.
Although the staff was friendly enough I think they could have been a little more informative, no mention of breakfast times or evening meal times, we were never asked if we wanted to book for any of them, we were not even told where our room was just given the key. The bar was ok but lacked any atmosphere staff a little wooden which is a shame because it could be made so much more inviting and pleasant for everyone, they need to be a bit more customer friendly, but our stay was good and had no complaints with the staff.

The staff were fantastic! Obviously understaffed but that didn't make them anything more than friendly and helpful. The rooms were lovely and clean, and the position of the hotel is exceptional. We were staying over after seeing a concert at the Open Air Theatre, and it is almost literally a stone's throw away from there. The view from our bedroom window was amazing, and the next time we come to Scarborough we will definitely try to book in there
As stated, the hotel was understaffed, at least while we were there, but that is happening everywhere at the moment. I thinkna special mention needs to be made for the man who was running the bar when we first arrived: he was doing everything, from serving the drinks to taking the food orders, taking them through to the kitchen, and then coming back with the food already ordered. We just don't know how he did it, but it was all with great courtesy and friendliness. It was the same with all the other members of staff we saw - nothing was too much trouble for them, and I hope they get the recognition they deserve.

The hotel is in a fantastic location for the show we went to see at the out door theatre. Didn’t realise about pre booking the car park so was full but we was so lucky to get the last space in a 24 hour tiny car park right next to the hotel. Our room was very basic and no frills ( very outdated ) but we was hardly there any way. The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable so that was the most important part and all the hotel staff were very friendly.
The room was expensive for just how basic and outdated it was but for the ease just being able to walk 2 mins to the theatre so saving on a huge taxi bill the good out weighed the bad.

After initial difficulty we found a parking space! Pleasantly surprised to find we had a room with a sea view though hadn't expected to for the room rate we paid. Buffet help-yourself breakfast was good value.
The lift really needs a re-vamp. Because it's situated in a very narrow corridor there is very little room to move luggage in and out. The lift door opens outwards which then totally blocks the corridor for other people wishing to walk past.

I have stayed at the Clifton before so I knew what to expect and was pleasantly surprised by what I found. The room was next door to the one from my previous stay and was better ventilated, cleaner with a great view over North Bay. Access to Scarborough is easy and there are quite a few walks along the cliffs and along the North Bay promonade. Of you want you can stroll around the headland to South Bay and the main part of town. There is some car parking though ot has to be booked in advance and is the same as the charge on the street from the local council but without the worry you might miss a meter. Would I go back - Yes.
Covid rules breakfast. I saw people who had come in after me getting served before me which at first wasn't a problem but when they were leaving and I still hadn't been served it became one. I complained only to be told that ther was a rota to the tables and I would be served shortly. The food wasn't hot having been out under warm lights for a while and it suffered. I sat at a more visible table the following day and although there was a slight delay I was served quicker but the breakfast still wasn't particularly good. I heard the chef and serving staff saying that the guests breakfast rota wasn't being adhered too by the guests. I don't think this helped.

Far exceeded my expectations after reading previous reviews in here. It is by far the only decent Britannia hotel we have stayed in (deffo avoid The Grand in Scarborough). The location fir Scarborough Open Air Theatre was perfect. The staff were lovely. The room was very clean, & although the double bed was tiny it was very comfy! Yes the hotel building is old & could do with maintenance but the staff are doing their best!

Great location central to all amenities. Great views of the coastal area. Breakfast great with a variety form all tastes. Bar staff very friendly and full of local knowledge. Restaurant staff always welcoming and nothing to much trouble for them.
Older lady ( possibly management )on reception very rude on arrival. We had booked on site parking and on arrival, there was no record of this. She basically stated we were lying, and had not made the reservation. We stayed in room 127, which was spacious and over looked the sea. The room was not the cleanest, large amount of cob webs in bathroom, and needed a lick of paint.
