The staff were so lovely and helpful to me as I had travelled alone with my dog. They even looked after him for me while I went for my breakfast and never made me feel a nuisance for doing it. Room was very clean and spacious. Breakfast was so lovely.

The fact that some inconsiderate guests were singing and chatting loudly in the corridor for 3 hours til about 3am causing my dog to keep barking and stopping me getting to sleep. Even mimicking my dog yapping when they kept.going past my room. The windows could have been cleaner as I had a sea view room but they were very dirty.

Room was great, it had a sea view, and a small lounge area. The bed was comfortable, the curtains worked and kept out the light. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice, however on the second day there was no butter and only instant coffee! Bathroom was a good size, with a good shower.

No proper coffee and butter at breakfast on the second day! Unable to get into first room we were given and had to walk miles to get back to Reception.

after reading what people had said about the hotel wasnt sure what to expect but very surprised how pleasant the holiday was for the price we paid for 2 of us, the hotel is old fashion but we loved the decor, so close to all amenities, the food was fab, the breakfast was excellent you wouldnt get better anywhere else and the evening meal was great, our bedroom was large with loads of cupboard space for all your clothes and i loved the bathroom, coffee and tea making facilites were great and the beds were comfy so pleased with the royal clifton we are going to book again in november, we love southport and this hotel is so close to everything garden lakes sea and lord street excellent

the door to our bedroom was very hard to open and close but they are going to fix it,but everything else was perfect for us wish we could afford to go every month it was so great and we were very happy and content with everything staff were excellent nothing to much trouble

The bed and duvet were comfortable and I love the blackout curtains.

Stains on the carpet in one of the rooms and I pulled out a lot of long, dark hair from the plug hole whilst I pre rinsed the bath before my bath (first use). Toilet roll is way too thin, which means it goes quickly. You can get more from the reception, where they were fab, but still feel awkward, as 2 rubbish, small toilet rolls are not enough for 3 night’s stay for 2 people. Plus, paid an extra £20 to check out at 12pm instead of 10. 10.45am we get a knock on the door from housekeeping and I tell her that we’ve paid to stay until 12pm. She apologies then goes. Then at 11.30am, another housekeeper unlocks the door and starts to come in. I had to go to the door and ask what she was doing, as we are checking out later.

Very convenient for the seafront, promenade, etc. I enjoyed the breakfasts. I particularly liked the warm, fresh croissants. There was a good selection of jams and Nutella. There was also a good selection of fruit to go with the yoghurt - grapefruit, orange, and pears and prunes. I enjoyed the cooked breakfast. I prefer grilled tomatoes but I know many people prefer plum tomatoes. The room fulfilled my needs - very clean abd a comfortable bed. The shower was great and easy to use. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. I asked for help with a couple of things and they assisted in a kind and warm manner. I liked the Victorian. It is historical downstairs and if I hadn't been alone I would have tried the bar. I slept very well.

There was a very worn or damaged bit of carpet about 12 inches just under the bed. I imagine it could be covered somehow as it did detract from the pleasantness of the room. I expected a basic room for the reasonable price. It was very modern and plain and that was fine by me. It was also spacious both bedroom abd bathroom for a single room.

I enjoyed an excellent breakfast. The other guests seemed to be old like me so it was a peaceful and friendly affair.. It was marvellous to have a corner bath that I could get in and out of. I am pleased I asked for a sea view as it was fascinating to look out on the extensive pleasure facilities.

There were no leaflets to let me know what I could visit e.g.. The museum, art centre, theatres for example and the receptionists weren't clued up on such things. Apart from an advertising map for the town centre there was no map of the wider area. I needed to locate a cemetery and the reception staff could not show me, though they did suggest buses I could take.

The hotel and our room. Two important points to make here. I have stayed in lots of hotels and have never had to sleep on such a high and solid feeling pillow. After the first night, I went to Morrisons and bought two pillows which were much nicer. No way would I use these hotel pillows again. Also, breakfast is served at 07.30 until 9 am. Way too early. It's ok for people who are having a work meeting but what about a short break or holiday. We stayed Tuesday to Friday (checkout) it's unreasonable to offer such an early breakfast. Sadly, I wouldn't stay here again. The staff were lovely though.

As stated above

The location was fantastic within walking for gardens beach.pubs and shops.and theatre. We had the good weather as well which makes this country every bit as good as going abroad. I would stay here again as it met our needs and the staff were really nice

Our room was facing a scruffy brick wall which wasn't conducive to holiday mood. But we had booked a budget room which was really cheap so decided you get what you pay for and it was adequate for our needs. The lock on the door was faulty so had a real struggle getting in every day. A couple of other guests had the same problem so we just got on with it. Hey ho cheap and cheerful is good.

I know Britannia get's criticised a lot so I was hesitant about booking & staying here but I have to say I was so glad I did. Walking in felt like I'd stepped back in time but in a nice way, the building oozed history & I love that sort of thing with the decor etc. The lady on reception was more than helpful and made us feel welcome straight away

This is not so much a criticism but a lack of asking on my part. We were hoping to go for a swim but didn't realise the pool was under construction so that was a shame, maybe a note added on the booking form/website could help so guest can be made aware. I know it's an old building but the lack of plug sockets was noticeable esp with all today's technology phones/ipads/laptops etc...maybe provide an extention lead would be a real help :)

The hotel was great, excellent value for money. The food was brilliant. All you can eat was well worth the money. Staff where excellent.

I found drugs in my room. Which made me think the room hadn’t had a proper clean. This wasn’t abit of drugs either it was quiet a substantial amount. I was absolutely disgusted and appalled. Its really a good job no children where staying in the room with us. It’s not like this couldn’t have been avoided it could, had the relevant/proper cleaning been done it would have been found. took the drugs to reception the next morning. I’ve not received any apology from the hotel or anything. Such a disappointment really because aside from this the hotel/location and food was great.
