I wasn't expecting too much. I am not into the sports theme and my Tucson hotel experience hasn't been the best. Luckily, I was very pleasantly surprised. Amanda and Dan (asst general manager and general manager) as well as all of the property staff were super friendly and helpful. The employees all seemed genuinely happy to work there. The rooms were the cleanest of any hotel or resort in Tucson. I am very picky, bring my own cleaning supplies, and didn't even need to clean things like the bathtub or door handles like usual. The very first thing I was impressed with was the cleanliness. The room itself was very large (560 sq ft). My room had a kitchenette, dining and living room area in addition to the bedroom and bathroom. Included were all needed supplies, as well as free laundry. It was quiet, good mountain views, and plenty of bath towels, dish towels, dish soap, bed pillows, etc. Included a full sized small refrigerator with freezer, burners, dishwasher, etc. The hotel itself has 3 floors, a swimming pool and hot tub area, outdoor grill area, a tiny mini golf course, plus plenty of indoor games on the tables like checkers, chess, backgammon, pool as well as shuffle board, and foosball, ping pong and other games in the game room. This would be a great hotel for a group event or party with all the fun game areas where you can sit and relax. Rooms didn't have indoor mold like so many in Tucson. The hotel was decorated with two Christmas trees and added little touches like pinwheel pillows on the lounge furniture. Very thoughtful and fun décor. They also had a small gift shop with food items. While the hotel doesn't have a breakfast option, they just added a coffee bar with coffee, tea, hot chocolate and apple cider. Marshmallows, cinnamon sticks, caramel, etc. were there for the choosing. Today as I checked out, they had freshly made chocolate chip cookies! I really like how the new GM Dan is added these extra touches.

We have stayed at Varsity Clubs of America a few times. I chose them as we can always trust that there will be a clean, comfortable suite for a very reasonable price. We stayed for 1 night only for a Drs appt the next morning as we live 75 miles out of town. The staff was great, the room was super clean, there's a small store that offers drinks, candy, popcorn, toiletries, etc. My only disappointment was the pool area that didn't have many umbrellas & the pool was quite cool for being June 1st in Tucson. It's a very peaceful, hidden gem in the center of the city!

This facility is part of Diamond Resorts and therefore they charge a daily resort fee. For what, I couldn't tell you. They don't offer room service, housekeeping, a bar or restaurant. There's nothing resort like about it, only that Diamond Resorts owns the property.

My room

I found the woman at the front desk to be a little short in her communicating style. What bothered me the most was the resort fee. It is duplicitous to not include it in the advertised room rate. I have never seen a hotel charge separately for wifi, which I barely used. I also didn't choose the hotel for the resort features, yet I had to pay for them.

I have both business and family in Tucson and have stayed here several times before. It's central and close to many restaurants and activities. I like the nearby restaurants Feast (short walk) and Tito & Pep (short drive). There's also a lot of places with good vegan options in the area, like Del Cielo Tamal and Falora Pizza. The rooms are a little dated but exceptionally clean which is most important to me, and it's great to have a full kitchen. The bathrooms are always very clean and have plenty of counter space for getting ready. There's also plenty of free parking which is great. It's just about a 15 minute drive to either downtown or La Encantada in the foothills. Easy to get to most everything by car.

They add a 'resort fee' to your total before you reserve your room and it seems higher to me than other places I've stayed in town. You'll want to check the total price before committing. Regardless, I think it's still a good value for the money (even with the resort fee) for such a central location.

My suite was 225 - if you are lucky you might be assigned this. Nice and functional suite layout and big balcony facing away from the road. Nice mountain views from the balcony. Liked making my own in room breakfast and able to reheat leftovers or make frozen dinners in the microwave - saved a few dollars and time here. Complimentary washer/dryer was a few steps away - and a fully equipped gym area as well. The hot tub was popular. Everything was clean and UpToDate. Amanda at the front desk was exceptional - always ready to help and following through to ensure everything was good. Within 5 minutes there are: an ATM, McDonalds, CVS pharmacy and a Discount Tire (where i had my 10 yr old tires with dry rot cracks replaced in an hour). Tucson Botanical garden and the City's public golf courses (with a great range and practice facilities) were less than a 10 minute drive.

Somewhat loud music in the pool area from 9 to evening. Would have like to turn AC off and open the patio door for fresh air, but the music was distracting. Also morning coffee in reception is only available after 7:30 - not good for early risers with early tee-times - but McD was across the street and the suites have coffee makers with all the supplies.

Very clean, pretty room with an excellent layout, loved the deep tub in the bathroom, comfy bed, plenty of closet space/drawers, and a nice kitchenette with everything we needed. TV was also very good - nice picture. It was like a small apartment! The hotel staff checked in almost daily by text with us to see if everything was okay. Even brought me a tea kettle for hot water! Just sorry we didn't have time to take advantage of all the nice amenities like ping pong, the jacuzzi, pool, or fitness room. I also appreciated the complimentary laundry room with washers and dryers - very helpful! It was also a great location near my son's residence as well as stores, the car rental, the university, parks, coffee shops and cafes. Nice views of the mountains. .

We were given a room that faced the busy street, so I asked if we could be given a different room. The hotel staff person apologized saying they were totally full but we could switch on the Friday after Thanksgiving if we wanted. But actually, the room was quiet and we settled in, so we didn't switch. I was also surprised by extra fees that we had to pay for the resort when we arrived. I didn't notice them online when we booked the room. We ended up paying about $25.00 per day in addition to the fee I paid on booking.com - some of that may have been local tax? Part of it was a resort fee...

Convinient location (10 minutes by car from the University of Arizona), very friendly staff and well-equipped suites made this hotel a great place for a weekend or longer stay in Tucson. We particularly liked a swimming pool, a (table) pool and complimentary laundry facilities.

Nothing substantial. Bear in mind that area around the Hotel (Speedway Blvd) can get quite busy and noisy (for us it was not an issue). The table for table tennis should be replaced as this one is tilted in one direction.

I'm so glad I chose the varsity club for my stay in Tucson. I was returning from an overseas trip and really needed a comfortable, clean and peaceful place to recuperate. My room on the third floor was just perfect. Super comfy bed. Soft towels. Massive tub. Well equipped living spaces with kitchen. Staff were extremely friendly. I can wholeheartedly recommend the varsity club to anyone staying in Tucson.

The suite was very spacious and the bedroom was fully separate from the living area. Did not use any of the "resort amenities." The kitchen was clean and nice to have some dishes for simple meals during my stay.

This does not have a resort feel- it is a hotel off a busy road. Good if you are passing through town and want more space than a typical hotel room.

The hotel was really nice. The room we stayed in, was bigger than I expected. We had the kitchenette style. I loved the tub, very spacious. It was very quiet, didn't hear anything.

There wasn't anything I didn't like. I was very pleased. Mark at the front desk told us they were doing construction, but it didn't bother us.
