Surf and Sand Lodge

We loved the view and being able to walk the trails along the bluff. It was great to have a refrigerator and microwave in the room. The beds were comfortable and we especially liked having a sliding glass door we could open to the outside for fresh air (we were on the second floor).

The afternoon sun beats into the room, which made it quite warm. There isn't any air conditioning, but we were happy to find a portable fan in the closet - with the sliding door open all night and the fan drawing in cool air, it made it okay. I wouldn't want to leave the door open in a downstairs room, so that might make it too warm to sleep. The coffee maker in the room was keurig style - non-recyclable pods, and you can't just make hot water.

I was really surprised with how close to the ocean the hotel was situated. The view from both rooms I booked were gorgeous and there's a long trail right outside the back of the hotel that takes you along the ocean one way and the other into town more, so walks to breakfast and dinner were done each day I stayed.

I was a little disappointed because Booking.com lists that there is a continental breakfast which I didn't see occur on both days I stayed. Although it wasn't a huge deal for me, my boyfriend was a little miffed that our 2nd room wasn't ready by the 3PM check-in (booked online for one night then decided while checking out that we actually wanted to stay one more night if they had vacancy); however, we just walked along the ocean and enjoyed the view while they prepared our 2nd room, so it definitely didn't bother me.

Fabulous view of Glass Beach. EXCELLENT WiFi! Very nice room but bathroom is cold and tub needs to be recaulked.

Location is, by far, the best feature of this property! We brought our bikes, and we’re able to ride easily into town and check out some amazing scenery on the path that runs directly in front of the hotel. Loved hearing the ocean at night.

Aggressive squirrels and noisy neighbors! Tried eating dinner outside and the ground squirrels come right up into your space. Bathroom was a bit rundown and the bed could’ve been a lot more comfy.

The coffee was amazing and of course the view was perfect. The trails and beach access are my favorite. My family has been staying at The Beachcomber since I was a small child, so I'm very familiar with this area and have many memories of staying here and exploring.

The water pressure in the shower, took forever to rinse my hair out. The shower curtain was too short and kept moving to the outside of the tub, I finally figured out that I had to get it wet and stick it to the inside of the tub in order to not get water all over the floor.

The room and view. The staff was very friendly and very accommodating. My husband and I arrived much later than we wanted to and asked if it was possible to check out later. They extended a hour no charge and we were able to enjoy the walk to the ocean and not have to worry about rushing to back up.

The only 2 dislikes and they are minor. The bed squeaked every time you got on or off and no breakfast. This however will not stop me from coming back.

The room was very clean, the ocean view and patio was wonderful. The location was great ... just out of town a few minutes and seemed like you were miles out. The restaurants we ate at were great from KW Saltwater Grill to Palapa Mexican hole in the wall! The Skunk train was a kick as well.

The coffee in the rooms was not good. The coffee in the office was better ... but that could be improved.

I visit Fort Bragg once a year. This year I decided to stay at Surf and Sand for the first time. Great Decision. Great Value. I stayed Sunday thru Thursday. Perfect location with easy access to the ocean/beach. It was a bit of a climb down to get to beach. I loved the clean, clean room, comfortable beds and the attached private patio deck. Wonderful to hear the ocean while sleeping. I plan to visit again next year.

I do not have anything negative to say.

The view and the rooms were beautiful. Having a refrigerator and a microwave was really convenient. The balcony with the patio chairs was a great spot for my family and I to sit and listen and watch the ocean. Parking was also convenient. We would stay here again!

We traveled 2,000 miles to stay for less than 24 hours in a hotel with family. This was a special occasion and a family vacation is not something we get to do often, so being close to each other was top priority. They put us in buildings on opposite sides of the property. When I asked him about this, he just said "There's no guarantees"... twice... after I finally asked if there was any way to move us in closer rooms together (shocking idea, right?) He agreed to look. We were at least able to get rooms in buildings next to each other, but it really wasn't convenient. Additionally, the coffee did not work in either of the rooms we booked.

We enjoyed our stay at the lodge. The lodge was booked full, but it was very quiet. The view was beautiful from our ocean view deck. The room was very clean with lots of extra towels. The bed was very comfortable and in good condition. We particularly enjoyed the jacuzzi tub.

Although the staff was friendly and accommodating, when signing in, there was a lot of paperwork to sign. I understand the necessity for the property to protect themselves during this time of COVID, however, the staff member at sign in, spoke so fast and rattled off the rules in such a way as to leave me confused and rushed. It might be helpful for the lodge to send the necessary paperwork ahead of time for the guest to have time to read and sign the papers.
