Captain Pip's Marina & Hideaway

It was a great value, much better than expected. While things like the entertainment center were sort of banged up, they had a full kitchen and grills at our disposal and turned out to be much better than staying at a chain hotel. Essentially it’s like your own apartment which is great if you don’t want to spend the money to eat out for every meal. The location was good also.

There were some small ant type bugs and I smashed two gigantic palmetto bugs that came running out across the floor after dark while I was there.

Location. On site marina. We docked our boat and rented a second from them. Nice having our boats just steps away. Staff was friendly and helpful. Staff helped us keep multiple family rooms near each other. Other family had rooms that were renovated beautifully. Ours was not renovated. We had a one bedroom and they had regular rooms but still had a kitchenette. Those rooms were lovely.

Our room was clean but had very old flooring, counters, appliances I need of repair. Tiles had big holes in them. Bed was terrible. You could feel the springs and it made a crunching noise when you moved on one side. Slippery floor tiles in the shower. We did see roaches in our kitchen on multiple occasions and we did not have food out anywhere. (We live in Florida we know this is common but our kids had rooms without that issue) that said we were comfortable enough and had everything we needed for our stay. Perhaps that room is still to be updated. I would have rented one of the other type rooms if we had known. The double queen with kitchenette our daughter had was perfect

Our room (Loggerhead) was spectacular! It was clean and well-decorated with a tropical flair, with a view of the marina/canal from the living room. This suite style room had a comfortable bed in the separate bedroom, and it was much more than we expected for the price. This has to be the best kept secret and greatest value-priced place to go in the Florida Keys! During our stay, we visited Bahia Honda State Park and barbecued while catching some rays! At night, we visited the “Island Fish Company” restaurant and had an amazing meal. We loved Captain Pips, it was the first time staying there for us, and we can't wait to visit again. Wow!!!!!!!

The room was HUGE. The location of the apartment rental was on the dock. The large living room had sliding glass doors opening to the dock. Included with the large living room was the dining room, full kitchen, bedroom and bath. The people next door to us were the owners and they couldn't have been any nicer. The room was left ready for us after closing hours with the air condition on a comfortable temperature and lights on to make it easier when we entered the room. We would definitely go back if in Marathon again and we would extend our stay.

The smell inside the apartment was very musty, but being located right on the water was expected. It was a combination smell of the water and the cleaning supplies used in the room. The pool was very small however kept clean. The woman in the trailer for check out was not friendly whatsoever. Even after telling her we enjoyed our stay, she didn't seem to care.

We were right there by the water. We had a lovely water view from our room. The housekeeping service was a bonus. We liked that there was a restaurant on site for meals and entertainment. We ate there several times. I liked our accommodations however I expected a chair or couch in the room to relax on. That was just my expectation. I liked the patio furniture and lounge chairs available and the BBQ grills although we did not use them. We did cook a couple meals in the kitchen though. We also enjoyed the pool and tables and chairs there.

I did not like the awful gravel everywhere. It hurt my feet to walk on it! Even with shoes on! Again I expected sand when sitting out by the water. We did have an issue with the plumbing, mainly the toilet did not flush adequately. Maybe it was just the normal water pressure there. I think a fire pit for “winter vacationers” would be a hit. I’m not sure of the safety regulations for that type of thing but I told my daughter I wish there was a fire pit to sit around at night and listen to the water.

We stayed in the Tree Top Guest Room and it was very clean. The bathroom had a surprisingly large shower. The bed was a little soft for our liking, but still comfortable. It was nicely equipped with an apt size fridge with freezer, microwave, coffeemaker, and toaster, as well as plates, cups, and utensils for two people. The location was well maintained and had lots of chairs/loungers outside overlooking the marina for enjoying the view. It was a convenient and easy walk to Porky's Bayside Restaurant, with good food and drinks for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

There was a small table in the room, but it had bar stools instead of chairs so it was not usable for sitting to eat or work.

It was so quiet and cozy. We stayed in upstairs Tree Tops Apartment. It has been remodeled and is very cute. We had a fridge, microwave, coffee pot and toaster. The walk I. Shower was great, just beware when going in after someone else showers since the floor gets slippery. The A/C unit is quiet and keeps the room perfect and nice touch having a ceiling fan. There was no breakfast included so we picked up some bagels, cream cheese, eggs and fruit for a perfect in-room breakfast. Porky’s is right next door and a great open air restaurant with great food and drinks. There are also several other places nearby less than a mile. Great sunsets from the pool and pier in the back. Overall in our visit to several places in the keys, this was a favorite. I booked well in advance so great rate.

The only negative I have to say is the bed is on a wood frame that creaks badly anytime you turn over or get up so it was difficult to sleep soundly since every time one of us moved or got up it woke the other person. I also think they should put rubber mats on shower floors so it is not so slippery. Also our neighbors had a problem with their door lock after hours and no one answered the ‘emergency’ number in the room or the number for after hours calls in our welcome letter. My friend wandered the buildings because she saw one that looked like someone lived there and that person was able to provide a number for someone who finally answered. It took a while but our neighbors were able to finally get in.

Like coming into the room feeling nice and cold! It was very clean! Loved everything, except needs new bolt lock. Was very hard trying to get it locked and unlocked. One part of shower floor is very slippery, someone could easily fall. My only two suggestions. Also our neighbors were from our hometown Fort Myers that was a plus+ ♥️ that's their Corvette beside my new JEEP ❤️

One thing the sliding glass door needs to be removed. It will not close all the way, and you kick that stripping everyTIME. So that would be a plus!!!! My poor granddaughter would hit it everytime.

We really enjoyed our stay. Great meals at Porkys next door and at Burdines, where we saw manatees. Great breakfast and service at The Wooden Spoon. Easy driving distance to Key West which took us about an hour. Beautiful sunsets from outside our studio. Sombrero Beach is a great spot nearby, very clean, a covered children's playground, changing facilities and restrooms. Housekeeping gave us plenty of clean fresh towels which we appreciated. There is a very handy and economical laundry nearby which is great if you have kids. Publix and Wynn Dixie are also close, as is a Walgreens.

We were happy with everything. We loved Marathon, it's a lovely place. We would be delighted ⁶ to stay at Captain Pip's again.

The room was large and well appointed. There were beach towels, bikes, kayaks, and more available for our use. I wish I could have stayed longer. Staff was super friendly and called to let me know I could check in early due to my room being ready.

Having to pay resort fees upon arrival due to booking through Booking.com Wish I had gotten a downstairs room as lugging heavy suitcases up for two disabled people was a bit hard on me.
