I was nervous about booking because of the mixed reviews but the price and location were perfect so I thought I'd go for it. I arrived quite late and when I checked in, the gentleman kindly upgraded me to a suite. Unfortunately the 'upgrade' was a downgrade, the room, 908 was dirty and had a terrible stale, mouldy smell that was so overpowering I eventually asked to change rooms to the normal King room I had booked. A completely different experience! Lovely, clean room with a comfy bed, no smell, clean windows and a very pleasant experience. Don't be afraid to ask to change rooms if you're given a dirty one!!!

Room 908 should be condemned. Damp, dirty and really bad smell of mould. Changed to a room on same floor on opposite side of hotel and it was perfect.

The hotel was built in 1927, but the rooms weren’t older like some other hotels. The hotel is pet friendly and has a beautiful ballroom. There was a NYE wedding and it was beautifully decorated. Very convenient location around the corner of the water tower and many stores and restaurants. Highly recommend the Rosebud steakhouse just a few steps across the street. The rooms also conveniently had central air so we were able to adjust to our liking. Lots of lamps though. Not actually bright. Very dim room. Had a vanity but with minimal light. Would have been great to have a stool at the vanity.

The couches and carpet in the hotel rooms could use an update. When checking out we had to wait for 7 elevator rides since they have small elevators and they aren’t very fast. Not a big deal though. The shower was great with a waterfall and handle feature but was poorly built. The towel we laid out to step on was soaked and the whole bathroom got wet and slippery easily. No parking was a bummer. I will say having a partnership with Hancock building offering $35 parking with and in and out privileges made up for it glad i bought it ahead of time online. Wish there could be a valet though.

Location was great. Lobby was very beautiful and well taken care of. Staff was nice. Check in and out was easy and quick as well as updates via text and email.

The room was dirty, specifically the carpet and air. It wasn’t super well-maintained. I thought the room would be nicer.

The location was perfect for our needs. The hotel is beautiful and has character. Our room was nice and very clean.

No access to the refrigerator in the room. It may have something to do with covid but they will not give you a key to the refrigerator. Disappointing! It would be nice to be able to chill some drinks or food. The elevator broke multiple times in the two days we were there. We talked to people who were stuck on the broken elevator and they were very frightened. We were on the elevator when it dropped suddenly and then didn't open immediately. If you're parking a car it can be a bit confusing. It should actually be very simple but unfortunately the people working the day we arrived had not been trained on how the parking garage and the QR code system works. Many other guests were having issues.

Great location, spacious rooms.

The decoration would benefit from a refresh. The first room we were given was on floor 2 and it was very dark and a bit shabby. We moved to floor 11 and the room was much better, not only brighter and bigger, but also better designed.

Great location in Chicago, close to the lake, stores, and restaurants. Room was big.

Room and hotel in general feel old. A renewal is necessary for such an excellent location.

The hotel is in a side street that is more residential than commercial, which makes the area feel friendlier than a city centre hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very nice, and the service was excellent. The cocktail bar was worth a visit too. We liked the midday checkout too. About 5 minute walk from Lake Shore Drive and Lake Michigan, it easy enough to walk to Navy Park along the lakeside. Buses run from Michigan Avenue to Union Station and the transfer (bus) station where you can get a 1 or 3 day travel card for the busses which will save you heaps of money. If you are into shopping, then several designer stores are very close.

There was no hotel or local information in the room, a local map would have been nice as google maps was not always accurate. It was difficult to find somewhere to get breakfast on the first morning as the hotel breakfast room only opens on certain days. There was no kettle/jug/water boiler in the room, just a coffee maker (and anyone that has made tea using a coffee maker will know it doesn't taste good.)

We love the old world charm of this hotel. The fact that it has history and is lovely just makes it fun to stay here. We knew in advance to our stay that the restaurant would not be open and we’re okay with that since there is so much nearby and the price of our stay reflected this minor inconvenience compared to other hotels in the area. Our room was clean and even though we were told at check in that we would not be getting room service since we were only staying two nights, someone did knock on our door to ask if we would like our room cleaned or needed anything. Numerous parking options nearby at good rates especially with SpotHero app. We enjoyed our stay, as we always do here and will definitely stay again.

This really is not a dislike, but rather something that I have to remind myself of each time we stay here. Since this hotel is older and was built some time ago, the elevators are quite small. If we stayed on a lower floor I would take the stairs because I feel a little claustrophobic in the elevator especially if other people get on. But we always seem to get a room on the upper floors so it’s just something that I wish was different.

The staff was friendly, professional and diverse. For the location, the property was a fantastic value especially compared to nearby properties. Parking was easy, a good value compared to other options, and we felt very safe both in the parking garage, the walk back to the hotel, and in the hotel. I liked how everything was digital in the garage. It was easy to walk to Navy Pier. The best part was how quiet it was. You would have thought we were the only people on our floor but we knew we weren't!

The bed was too soft and the pillows were cheap. The towels were stiff and scratchy but at least we knew they were very clean. The AC was loud which did not bother me in and of itself, but when it would kick on and off it would wake me up from my slumber. I would have liked an opportunity to view the crystal ballroom and see the light up floor. The building has a rich and interesting history. There is one sign in the lobby about it, but I wish there were more opportunities to learn about the buildings history - more signage, or a small book in the room.

Location is hard to beat -- super walkable, and easy access to trains + buses. Bathroom was the best part, felt very updated and the shower was great.

Definitely a little dated. Beds were OK, pillows were like rocks. We could hear anyone talking in the hallway outside, so if you're sensitive to noise, keep that in mind - definitely not super quiet. Also, the doors have no chain-locks, and traveling as solo females, this made us a little concerned and uncomfortable.
