Stunning art-deco architecture with floor to ceiling windows and jaw-dropping views.Huge bathroom with soaking tub and large stand alone shower. Every staff member we encountered from Antonio and his crew at the valet station to the lobby staff was fantastic.A special thanks to Kat Weber who patiently answered all my questions and helped me pick the perfect room for our 40th wedding anniversary. She nailed it. The Viceroy is our favorite hotel - ever.

Leaving

The hotel is really well-kept. Public spaces were clean and comfortable. It has a nice rooftop bar area. The room was quaint, well-ventilated, and nicely designed.

With all the positives that this hotel has, it is not a true 5-star hotel. It doesn't have full porterage service, the pool is very tiny, and the amenities are average, which made the experience feel overpriced. Prepare for an additional 25-8% of fees to be added to your final bill. For example Booking.com rate was 585usd for 2 nights. Viceroy charged 731usd at the end of the stay (which incl. city tax, state tax, amenities fee, etc.)

Location was central for lots of places to eat. Hotel - even though we arrived at check in time the room wasn’t ready so after a 10 hour flight had to wait. However, after that no issues at all with the hotel and staff were very pleasant and accommodating. Hotel is advertised as having complimentary drinks between 4-5 but only once were these out for residents to take a glass. Everyday you had to ask and then somebody would disappear in the back room and come back with a glass for you. For the price of the hotel and star rating cost you would expect for the drinks to be out as they are in every other American hotel we’ve stayed in.Saw lots of people wandering around looking for them but didn’t like to ask for a drink so went without.

Complimentary drinks advertised as available daily between 4-5 but were not unless you asked which made guests feel uncomfortable doing so. Failed every night to get a drink on the rooftop bar as ‘full’. However when our children in their 20’s went on their own they manage to get a table everytime .Vibe was very much young adults and not people in their 50’s!!! We were advised to go down to the Somerset bar/ restaurant down stairs but by 10 pm they were always packing all the chairs away so tended to go elsewhere

It’s hard to say what we didn’t :) there was a little bit of hiccup with check in, but it was solved and we had an incredible stay! The ambiance, decor, cleanliness, walkability, everything is just top notch! We really loved the room, the bed was super comfy, vanity products were great and I even didn’t use shampoo I brought from home (rarely happens!), the design of the room in general is very chic (the lighting fixtures are unique and just beautiful!) Alison, guest relations manager, send us a very nice welcome amenity and it was a cherry on the top! We will def come back!

I’m trying to think of anything… Maybe the roof top can be opened later at night even if it’s a rainy day?

the viceroy chicago is a gorgeous hotel. i booked a deluxe king room and it didn't disappoint. big comfortable bed, great spacious shower, excellent air con, spotlessly clean. loads of little extras, right down to a clothes brush. great soundproofing, great minibar. the rooftop bar and pool is great. lots of comfort seating around and city views. location is good, staff polite

whilst all staff were polite, some could learn to smile more! my safe was broken and had to be replaced. this was done quite quickly but did mean by the time i went up to the roof terrace bar they'd stopped serving cocktails and would only give me a wine or beer, even though there was nearly 15mins left before closing time.

Well appointed, modern and swanky.

I have no dislikes other then I wish they had an indoor pool…but I knew they didn’t going in so it wasn’t a deal breaker at all.

location and amenities

the bed was so uncomfortable. you could feel the springs in the bed and literally could not get comfortable due to the bed being positional. being a hotel of this caliber, this should be addressed.

The decor throughout Viceroy was absolutely marvelous. I love art deco; it's my favorite for its eye appeal. I was placed in the right mood as soon as I entered the lobby. Our room was absolutely spectacular with its superior custom crafted furnishings. The designer deserves high praise for introducing tasteful design and meticulous small details in everything such as the vanity, the placement of lighting and electrical outlets, and the operation of controls and appliances. One's mood is influenced by these thoughtful design features. Oh, let's not forget the rooftop pool, what a great place to hang out with its doting staff! We dined twice at the hotel restaurant on the main floor, the menu selections are sooo good. We can't wait to book our next stay and bring friends. Kudos to all the great staff and to the wonderful management.

Hmm . . . Is there a way to escape expensive all-day parking?

everything was beautiful and felt so new still. rooms were very clean. staff was very friendly! great location. would return!

only slight downside was the lack of dog friendly space in the hotel. we couldn’t leave our pup alone in the room but they wouldn’t let him at the bar upstairs. there was no lobby bar and the restaurant attached didn’t open their patio either so we had to wander around to grab a drink on a different patio with our dog before dinner and just had wine in the guest room after as well. it’s not a big and we enjoyed our time but when you find a dog friendly hotel it’s a huge perk to actually be able to bring them places vs just the room itself!

Location is excellent. Nestled amongst the 5 star monsters , Four Seasons , Waldorf efc you had all their location benefits without paying for it. Close to wonderful oak beach and countless eateries , OLD TOWN a pleasent 10 mins away Red line train on the doorstep as well to get you around Roof top bar was excellent and a nice spot to breakway from city seightseeing

Could have been a bit more moodern looking but then you are paying a very different rate compared to other hotels in the area
