Golden Gate Lodging

My kids and I are delighted to have discovered Golden Gate Lodging. We will definitely go back. Our room was at the end of the building, motel style-so an outside door, I parked the car right in front of the unit. The small, private beach on Lake Champlain was right next to the room. The room was recently refurbished with new carpet, a fresh paint job and a new bathroom. The beds were comfortable and it was very quiet. The room had a window a/c unit which some people may find too loud, but which we don't mind because it blocks out other noise. When we arrived there was a musty smell, this is very normal for a motel right on the water. We opened the window which had a mosquito screen and turned the a/c on full blast. In a few minutes, the smell was gone and the room temperature was comfortable. The motel thoughtfully provides a fresh water bin next to the beach to rinse the sand off our feet. The room also had a fridge with a freezer and a microwave.

Some suggestions: a door mat at the door to wipe your feet and a USB charging port.

The room and beds were very comfortable. Room was very clean and the property has an amazing view of the lake. Being next to McDonald's made breakfast easy for my kiddo. Staff was friendly and overall our stay was comfortable. Site addressed and blacked out windows in room doors as was mentioned in another review. Wifi was good. Location was accessible to things we wanted to do and quiet at night.

We were disappointed by the condition of the beach. After walking it the first night, we were not comfortable swimming in it. We found, but admittedly didn't report, a used adult diaper and capped needle on the beach floating at the edge of the water. It remained there throughout our stay. There were also tons of grass clippings and other trash on the beach. It probably would have been fine to just sit and look at the water though. It was initially why we chose this hotel, so it definitely felt like a negative. It would be great for the lodging to have a system in place for regular beach maintenance particularly given itslocation within Plattsburgh. Room was partially renovated, but could use some attention to detail in the condition of the molding, drywall, and painting skill.

The location was amazing, the high open beam ceilings were amazing! New bed, very clean and staff always on site! Very quite, looked like the rooms had just been re-done. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We arrived early and our rooms were not ready but they got us checked in as we had a wedding to attend.

The toilet was very close to the wall and the mirror was not placed for anyone on the shorter side. The A/c was older and worked but not overly well. The bed was brand new however very soft.

This place was awesome! Traveling on a small budget, I really enjoyed my little kitchen. The place has been nicely updated with beautiful tile in the bathroom and kitchen. The people were very nice and the location was perfect! It is close to my college campus and directly on the beach!

I thought the motel was near Lake Champlain. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was right on the lake with its own beach. We were also surprised to find that there was a fully equipped kitchen in the room.

We were told, at check-in, that the ice machine was in the lobby. Then the lobby was locked right after we checked in.

GGL is an old-fashioned property on Lake Champlain. I needed a basic one-night stopover in Plattsburgh. GGL filled the bill. I rebooked it a couple of days later. The room had a simple coffee machine. The property is close to I-87 and not very far from SR3 where most of the eateries are. There is a McDonalds within easy walking distance.

A regular chair in the room would have been handy.

there was a large refrigerator and a stove in the rousingly we could freeze the ice packs we carry the put in our cooler. That was great.

There was a lot of dirt and sand in front of the doorway and no mat to clean the bottom of our shoes so we had to walk around on a sandy floor. The receptacle to plug in the coffee pot was behind the refrigerator so it was hard to get the cord plugged in.

Check in was super pleasant even though it was 11pm. Much appreciated! The room was comfortable and super clean. Location is right on the lake - nice to see any time of year, but I'm sure it would be great in the Summer.

It was exactly as expected so there isn't much to say to change. The room met our expectations. There was an intermittent buzzing of which I was unsure the source, but it's the only thing I might look into.

Awesome view. Rooms being updated. New beds and floors. Talking with owner (Raj) he has many updates and plans. He was receptive to comments and even wrote things down! We plan on staying again.

The area was beautiful, right on the Lake. Chairs to sit in outside. In season, the beach is private.

Exposed pipe across the ceiling was kind of off-putting. No coffee maker wasn't great. No sign of an included breakfast, and they should change their ad!
