I wanted to stay in the Red Light area of Amsterdam and was not disappointed. My room was Room 8, the best in the property. Right at the top with a brilliant view of the street and canal below. The area is very quiet early in the morning - I used to go to Omelegg for breakfast 400 metres away (highly recommended). The front ground floor of the hotel comprises the bar together with a small outside seating area just above the pavement where you can sit and people-watch. You are not supposed to drink anywhere actually on the street in Amsterdam but seemingly this little seating area, maybe six seats, delightfully seems exempt. The staff were very pleasant starting with little smiley Cat who does the rooms. I had the undeniable pleasure of meeting Frederika and Julie, the female bar staff and two other chaps whose names sadly I can't recall. Night time is probably just as you imagine it. Please don't think of taking night-time photos any where near the girls in their windows - 95 Euro fine!!

Absolutely nothing to do with the hotel but as a pedestrian I became exasperated with cyclists on my 5-day stay. It is just 110% anarchy! Everybody hammers around unhelmeted at a minimum 20mph not giving any audible warnings or hand signals, in front of you, behind you, bumping your arm. You would think that as a pedestrian and just starting across a pedestrian crossing you would be given a little quarter, but no. Ignore the fact that the Netherlands is supposed to be 'Drive on the Right'. Oh and, by the way Dutch cyclists - Red and Green - learn the difference! Just my little rant!

I loved our room overlooking the red light district. This hotel was perfect. Small hotel just double check your room type before booking as many of the rooms are designed for multiple young people to share. Although our room was right on the walking strip, as soon as we closed the shutters we were able to sleep.

Actually nothing. This hotel and especially the staff exceeded our expectations.

Although in the centre of the infamous 'quartier rouge' of The Dam' the two single (but en-suite rooms are located next to each other on a wing and provide a quiet respite from the noise and malaise of Oudezijds Achterburgwal with excellent wifi (their own desk..great for a laptop) and a good shower too, best to avoid if you have limited mobility as there are lots of stairs (as is common in Amsterdam)....I would definitely stay again if it was available no less to the friend Cata and the staff at Royal Taste who made me welcome (only tip is you might need a kettle for tea/coffee and remember the Hotel doesn't offer breakfast but there are numerous places to eat nearby ;-)

Staff were extremely helpful and friendly and when I asked for a kettle,it was brought to the room immediately. Be wary if you have small children as its right in the heart of the red light district

Very misleading as it stated the room was ensuite but the bathroom is actually another room across from the bedroom.

Located in the Red Light District, prepare to see half naked women at 9 in the morning when you're walking outside to get breakfast. Since De Wallen district is kind of in the centre of Amsterdam (at least to my touristy eyes), it is easy to get all around the city on foot. Despite the nightlife reputation, the area is safe to walk around, even in the wee hours of the morning. At night there is the well expected noise from all the people outside, which ear plugs generally keep out (save the occasional intoxicated individual who gets a bit too out of hand). The room I stayed in was super spacious and comfortable. The bar downstairs is great - not only can you find other people that are staying at the hotel, but a lot of tourists pass by, of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds. Best of all, the staff is impeccable. Kind, considerate, available, always there to problem solve anything you need but also there for some great conversation.

Well, let's just put it out there - staying in Amsterdam is ridiculously expensive! At least for my humble Portuguese pocket. Still, considering the overall prices and conditions around the city, this place definitely scores well for the conditions it offers. Also, the noise from so many people outside and the array of sex workers around outside the hostel can be somewhat uncomfortable, but is to be expected and prepared for. All in all, the experience was certainly positive overall and I would consider staying there again.

I loved how ‘Amsterdam’ the room vibe was. I could sit by the balcony where you could open the door to feel the outside air and observe the people walking by on the streets. The room was unexpectedly clean, the staff members were kind and thoughtful. The room got cleaned everyday which was also unexpected. You have everything you need there, including coffee/tea and toilet amenities. I’d highly recommend this to travelers on a budget.

There’s not lift, which makes it difficult for me who brought a massive luggage. The stairs were very steep. Definitely not ideal if you’re a solo traveler with a big luggage.

It was a fantastic location! We (three mid 20’s) didn’t mind being in the red light district and it was easy to walk to from Amsterdam Central as well as to many other parts of the city. There’s a little stoop with chairs to sit on and people watch which we enjoyed immensely. The staff was definitely our favorite part over all, SO so friendly, easy to talk to and understanding. We arrived MUCH later (2am) than anticipated and even though we were unable to contact the staff due to service issues, they were very sweet and understanding. The one bartender Julie was an absolute dream, gave us fantastic recommendations as well as conversation - we will never forget you Julie!!! Rooms were clean and exactly as described in booking. We had to check out before we were ready to go and the staff graciously watched our belonging for us for a few hours until we were ready to depart. WE LOVE ROYAL TASTE ❤️❤️❤️

Steep stairs going to room, but honestly not that bad.

Room overlooking the canal with opening French doors was fantastic as it let in the light as well and brought the city into the room. Of course in this location that did mean a bit of noise into the wee hours, but nothing too obnoxious. The folks working the bar (reception) were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

There really wasn't anything I didn't like or found bad. Being an older building the bathroom fixtures were older, but everything was clean and fully functional. I did have to laugh as the brick walls shown in pictures turned out to be photo-realistic wallpaper, however it did look pretty realistic and wasn't anything to complain about.

Big room, had fans we could use since no air conditioning, comfy beds and pillows, shower didn't get water all over the bathroom floor.

The bathroom was small, not much storage space for toiletry bags, and the sink had annoying to turn knobs for the faucet (maybe this makes a difference when comparing it to another hotel option). It is loud at night due to being right in the Red Light District, but I was able to block out the noise with ear plugs. FYI there are very steep narrow stairs in this hotel (typical of buildings in Amsterdam), and no lift.

The whole staff was amazing and friendly, Mr. Nunon at desk was super friendly and he offered me a free drink at the bar because the owner of the hotel told him to offer me a free drink whenever I show up at the bar. Everyone was very welcoming & friendly, the hotel location is very prime, everything is at walking distance. Definitely 100% recommending to the travelers who want to explore the REAL Amsterdam by foot :)

I liked everything about this hotel, very good location, super friendly staff and clean hotel, specially for those who travel solo, with group of friends or couples. However, if you have kids or not so open minded then do not stay at this place as this is right at the Redddd area :) (It's my personal opinion and thought it might be helpful for some people, I DO NOT mean it in a negative way at all).
