The Lion Hotel

Room booked was a Kingsize and it was. Large and comfortable bed. Bathroom was larger than expected with a large bath. The water pressure was good so the bath filled quickly. Good selection of teas and coffees. Continental breakfast was included in the price and the selection was excellent

Limited number of electrical sockets which meant you had to unplug the TV or Fan to plug in the kettle. Room was very warm and there was an electric fan provided but needed to have the window open. Unfortunately they were refurbishing the Petrol Station next door and work started at around 8:30 until 5pm so window had to stay shut.

Room very clean. Had everything we needed. Toilet seat slightly askew, but could not fault anything else.

Continental breakfast was very basic. Not much choice at all. Would have liked a basin of fruit cut up to eat with yogurt. Coffee not hot enough. One selection of cheese and meat to eat with toast. Toaster took forever to brown bread.

The location was good for us, as it was half way between the location of our main holiday in Northumberland and our home in Devon. We enjoyed our evening meal on the first night and our breakfasts. The public rooms, the bars and the garden areas were good. The private carpark is very useful. The staff were very pleasant.

It was very hot on the first night and it was difficult to sleep. The noise from the beer garden meant that we could not open windows as wide as we would have liked, but all this was explained in the details provided by the hotel before booking, so we cannot really complain.

The room was clean and tidy with an extremely comfortable bed. I had no complaints about the bathroom and was able to have a hot shower during my stay. The complementary teas and coffees are a generous selection. For a hotel based on the high street, it was remarkably peaceful and quiet at night. The staff were polite and welcoming also. Wifi had a good connection and was quick enough, requiring logging in to accept terms of use. The location is only a short walk from Belper train station so it is easily accessible on foot.

It will depend on your room but depending on where you are in your room, you are visible from the courtyard. I had no troubles with parking but the bays are somewhat limited relative to the number of rooms though there is a (pay-metered) car park nearby.

It has enough charm to be a nice hotel, I'm pleased to have stayed there. I would return should I need to travel that way again. I would recommend to either friends or family. It is a great building and some nice touches inside. The ample car parking was well received. I trust you will continue to make improvements and wish you continued success.

The beds in the twin were a little narrow but acceptable. Staff moved at a gentle pace which sometimes felt on the slow side. Delivery drivers at rear are pretty good although one left revering warning beeps on longer than necessary.

We are frequent visitors to Belper and the lion hotel is a great place to stay to be able to explore the surrounding areas. It is situated just off the main high street and very close to the railway station. We always try and book one of the larger rooms which we find more comfortable than the standard rooms. It is a lively pub and also hosts weddings and other functions so it can be loud but this is highlighted when you book your stay on the website so it should not be a surprise to anyone on arrival. The bar and restaurant are great and the staff are very helpful and friendly.

As much as we love the Lion hotel the biggest issue we find is the breakfast service, out of all our visits we have only ever had one good breakfast experience. A continental breakfast is included in the room price and a cooked breakfast can be provided at additional cost. The last weekend we stayed the first morning one girl was serving a room full of guests, the Bread, butter, fresh orange, glasses and fruit all run out with people standing around waiting to be seated and served. After waiting over half an hour we went to a local cafe on the high street to get some breakfast, on the second morning we just went straight out to get breakfast elsewhere. It is such a shame that the breakfast lets the hotel down because everything else is great.

Nice size room and bed, very good breakfast both continental and cooked. Good central location within Belper, easy access off the A6, and to both bus and rail stations, making it a good hub to visit the surrounding area. Staff were very helpful, any issues were resolved promptly and professionally. The housekeeping team did a great job despite the heat (no aircon due to it being a listed building), and were very helpful.

Noise from outside did vary dependent on which room you stayed in due to its location in the town.

It's 3 star hotel, but service was on 5 stars. Its busy pub, but for us that didn't was a problem, because went to sleep very late. All food what we ordered was delicious. Staff is friendly and helpful. All around in hotel and pub was clean, didn't see dusts. Room and bed was comfortable. Location for us was perfect. I'm definitely will book again this hotel if I'll travel to this area. 💯👍 I recommend this hotel - cheap and great! 💯👍👍👍

We visit Belper regularly and always use the Lion Hotel for our base. We book the King Size rooms which are spacious and comfortable with large en suite Bathroom. The staff are very professional and friendly and always available to help in any way they can.

Live music is on some nights in the hotel so it can be noisy, this is highlighted on the hotel website so this might puit some people off. We have always enjoyed the entertainment so just be aware of this before booking.

Cooked breakfast was hot and tasty. We ate at the hotel 2 evenings, food was great; they do fab pizzas!

Hotel is situated on a main road and next to a 24hr petrol station, don’t expect an uninterrupted sleep; we knew this when we booked so can’t really complain. Some staff seemed to be just ‘winging it’, maybe they were new hires? We had to suss out it was self service for coffee & tea at breakfast; it wasn’t explained upon our arrival for breakfast.
