The Portcullis Hotel

Despite asking for earlier booking the doors were locked & we waited a long time for someone to answer the door. The lady that greeted us was very pleasant & friendly & made us feel welcome. She explained everything & showed us to our room. The room itself was spotlessly clean & well decorated. The ensuite shower room was very clean & the room felt very relaxing, offering tea making facilities & a small cooler 'fridge.

When we returned to the hotel in the evening it was obviously a "youngsters" pub & there was a DJ playing very loudly & our room was above the courtyard where all the people were gathering. It was lovely to hear the youngsters enjoying themselves but very noisy for us. The music stopped at 1am. Also we were unable to get a coffee in the hotel.

Welcoming staff. Very helpful. Room is pleasant. Kettle and tea and coffee available in the room. Ensuite wetroom. Lovely little courtyard to enjoy a drink from the bar. Pool table and darts available. This hotel was perfect distance for our 10minute travel to badminton horse trials. Set in a lovely town with plenty of parking outside. Would stay again

Only thing to say as was we were pleased with our stay is the Shower head wasn’t great but manageable for one nights stay and not an major issue

Staff were wonderful and location too. Beds comfortable and they offered a continental breakfast which was unexpected.

Hot water control in shower was locked on scalding until one of us used a towel to adjust it. Maybe this was a previous guest’s doing though. That was the only little negative.

Room was lovely and modern, with a mini fridge, en suite & TV, we were out at an event until 3am so did not hear noise, but I would assume it would have been noisy until 1am atleast being a weekend.

Waiting at the bar to check in with luggage while customers are getting served, would much prefer a hotel reception area.

beautiful place decor was lovely great location for a walk looking at nature plenty of local shops and a market plenty of other shops to look around friendly staff plenty of places to go for all different types of food

Big, clean room easily accessed in good location.

Told a dj in, but actually Octoberfest event and had to walk through the bar to access my room upon return from a family visit - unexpected, very noisy, but was so tired fell asleep. Bit scary as lone female with so many drunk males to walk through!

Great staff and very welcoming towards me,Lisa and Milo our dog..very clean rooms with attention to detail such as having a dog bowl in the room for Milo and even a little tennis ball for him.... everyone smiling which make you feel at home.. definitely will be returning next year on a stop over when we return from Cornwall...loved it

The bed and room were super comfy with good facilities.

The room was above the court yard which is extremely loud on a Friday night as the pub turns into a club. There is only single glazing which isn't the best, however we did get to sleep quickly and had a great sleep.

Staff were very helpful and accommodating. Rooms were exactly what we needed, we had private facilities and the hotel was in a great location to easily commute.

Better than I expected. The reviews were not so great but I now think it's because of the weekend parties. During the weekdays, I think the rooms were better than I expected, clean and has enough space.

There's no human touch in this place. The pub might do a bit better. No breakfast.
