Moreton Park Hotel

For the price i paid, the hotel far exceeded what i expected. The bed you sink in and drop straight to sleep (a Remo balcony bedroom). Full tea and coffee service in the room, TV in the sitting room and in the bed room upstairs. The rooms was spotless and the full breakfast was first class (you have a full selection of cereals, toast yogurts and the cooked items). The hotel sadly don't do evening meals or drinks, but the Poachers is 2 minutes walk down the road and they do food with drinks. Its that good, i will be back again just to spend time relaxing or visiting the local attractions.

Nothing.. the staff was great, first class and very friendly.

Front desk was very friendly and kind, especially given the state I was in. The rooms are massive and great for stretching, resting, and repacking gear; there was even a tub for a long soak. Breakfast was delicious and served in a separate building, at a now-closed bar and restaurant. Be advised that there is very little in the area for food, although there is a pizza service that will deliver to your room and an M&S in the nearby petrol station. Facilities were clean but very basic - it has the sterile feel of a hospital room - and the light switches were a bit confusing/ gave off harsh LED light. It is a bit sad looking and has suffered a lot since Covid, but it's worth the trek if you're looking for a night among the very limited affordable options in the Chirk area.

Overhead lighting was quite harsh and switches didn't always work. Quite far away from food options.

Room was very clean, beds very comfy. Has all the facilities you need within the room (TV's, kettle, ironing board, etc) Staff were helpful and were able to advise us of a few local taxi companies within the area. I believe breakfast was included in the cost but we were slightly hungover the following morning so didn't have chance to try the breakfast.

The only issue with our stay was that the bar/restaurant was closed for whatever reason. However, the hotel let us know this at the time of booking so not a huge issue, just would have been handy to have.

Plenty of easy and free parking in the hotel car park. Rooms were spacious and clean. The Poachers Pocket pub is across the quite busy road on the canal side. There is also a large garden centre with a cafe next door. The Lord Moreton pub on the other side is closed but I believe you can have breakfast there if you order it when you check in. A good base for a day or two at a reasonable price if you don’t need to be in town.

Apart from the pub across the road and garden centre next door you need to drive to go anywhere.

Size and layout of the room. TV's upstairs and down. Skylight that opened and opening windows upstairs and down...which all came in useful due to the heating being on so high when we first arrived. Nice airy feel though and have stayed at a warmer time of year so it's a very nice feature to have.

I feel the radiators would be better set to half way or lower to keep the chill off an empty room. Guests can then adjust if needed, rather than walking into a very warm room and having to open all the windows and feel over warm upon arrival. The bed was a good size but very soft, to the point that I'm not sure if it was just a soft mattress or if it was old and worn. It also very obviously felt like two beds pushed together and that you might fall between the two. (room 20)

The extremely warm welcome from the staff when we got there who were very helpful. They even rang when we had left to say we had left something behind and offered to post it on if we were too far away. The room was huge, bedding fresh, clean, fluffy towels, and comfortable beds. The location was great with plenty of parking. Close to the main town, service stations, and local places to eat.

The hotel was very clean but needs some money spent on renewing worn carpets, fixing fittings, it just generally felt very tired.

Location between 2 busy highways caused much traffic noise. In the very hot weather the windows had to be left open so the noise was intrusive. Cooling in the rooms would have prevented this so we would have been more comfortable. Premier Inn at the same price level does offer cooling. Also in our second room the mattress on one of the single beds was old and sunk in the middle. Finally staff told us we could get coffee in the lounge room, but the coffee machine was missing, although cups, sugars etc were still there. No explanation given. However it did allow us to find the excellent Caffi Wyllfa..

Room was nice a big and the bath was lovely. I really liked being able to open the windows too.

The bed wasn't very comfortable, and we would have preferred two singles. The legs were metal, and we had to cove them with pillows so we didn't stub our feet or legs on them. It was also quite high off the floor. Shame there wasn't food available on site ( but we didn't have far to go.)

Spacious rooms. Exceptionally clean. Truly friendly staff, always smiling. Fast check in. Plenty of free parking. Radiator/heating really worked well. Hot water and powerful shower. There's a common room/lounge with plates, cutlery, a TV and a microwave if you order a takeaway. An M&S Food is close by.

No air conditioning. Might need a fan in summer. The bed was a bit too soft for me but others may prefer this.

Spacious clean room,very comfortable bed, heated bathroom floor. 5 minutes walk away from a fantastic pub beside a canal. This is a beautiful area. We had expensive mountain bikes with us ; staff offered us to store them in a locked office, which we really appreciated.

It's right beside a busy road, which is great for access, but a tad noisy through the day.
