Holt Lodge Hotel

Decent sized rooms, great breakfast. The whole place is a bit tired and could do with a repaint, but it's survived 2 years of lockdown and the price reflects what's on offer. Despite the fact that many of the wedding guests were staying at the hotel we weren't disturbed at all given they must've got to bed a lot later than us.

The hotel had weddings booked for both nights of our stay but didn't tell us until we arrived. On the first night we were told we had to use a separate room as the restaurant which was a bit weird because it was obviously a large function room that had a few tables and chairs set out in it. When we sat down the other guests seemed a bit grumpy, and we soon found out why. Even though our order was taken quickly the time taken to get each course was incredibly long - we waited so long for any member fo staff to appear to ask us about dessert that we gave up. The second night of our stay we ate somewhere else.

The grounds to the hotel and downstairs decor was lovely - modern and clean. Plenty of parking too.

Breakfast was a nightmare. There were lots of people waiting for food to come out, staff standing by idly watching the food running out and not going to order more. The island in the dining room appeared to be poorly organised. Glasses by the coffee station and butter on the wrong side too. Just the little things. The food was good once it was available. We booked two double rooms. Both double bed has very poor mattresses, a spring gone in one (room 204) and thin, with no depth or firmness (203). Having air con in the rooms was tough as it was hot outside too. Thankfully there was a fan.

My room had a lovely comfortable king size bed in it and a wonderful rain shower. The staff were very attentive and I enjoyed the espresso with the chocolate biscuit.

The dinner menu was disappointing, as there was no duck or Welsh lamb. The beef lasagne I had on day 1 tasted as though it had come out of a convenience packet. On both mornings my Mum did not receive the alarm call I had arranged (room 106) and I didn't get a call on the first morning (room 101). But these are minor quibbles. I would definitely come again.

Staff was very welcoming, pleasant and polite. Room was adequately suplyed with everything you need. Inc tea and coffee supplies, iron and ironing board,,room size very much on the generous size, more than enough. Breakfast was help yourself, coffee ,tea yogurts and cereals, with bacon,sausage scrambled eggs, black pudding, beans,tomatoes, hash browns and toast. EXCELLENT, apart from no fried eggs

the staff were exceptional. Both the young staff who were working at night were fantastic. young Neave and Kalin did such a good job of looking after our group. They are a real asset to this hotel and deserve to be recognised for their service attitude and personalities. I worked in hospitality for a number of years and I would have given my left arm for staff like that. The girl who was in charge also worked from 7 am until 9.30 pm. Her standard of service was also exceptional. The owners of this hotel should be proud of their staff. All of the. from the house keeper to the receptionist where fantastic.

Great location, hotel layout indoors and outdoors is fantastic, plenty of parking spaces with easy access from the main road, large amount of outdoor sittings and lovely gardens, inside, it's specious and equipped with all the facilities you need for your stay, good quality food with large menu choices, staff was welcoming, friendly and very helpful answering questions, easy check in/out process, room was specious, clean and well organised, very comfortable bed for a peaceful night sleep, the hotel location is great to access Birkenhead Ferry terminal, will visit again for sure.

Nothing comes to mind

We were given a wonderful, friendly welcome by Emily who checked us in and answered all of our questions. We also received excellent service from Megan who was another warm, helpful colleague. The hotel was even better than we expected, with a great bar and spacious rooms. All in all, it represented very good value for money.

good breakfast ,staff very happy & helpful . garden tidy , & hanging baskets around the hotel , full of colour,

shower in the bath , over head , so you get your hair wet each quick shower !! also , the bath was SO SLIPPERY , with nothing to hold on to . Ugg . The T.V. was really a wash out as it kept flickering .

The hand grips in the bathroom were a great help to me (Thelma). Also the bath seat meant I could stand up from it to shower. Lovely soft towels. Excellent breakfast in the morning, without rush. Easy of parking near the entrance.

No soap only the gel in the bathroom. A great deal of sound from the upstairs room above from the floor. No talking was heard just the almost constant moving about!
