One Holyrood Hotel & Cafe

Wow, just wow! What a place, a proper gem, from the minute you walk through the door your eyes are everywhere. The attention to detail is superb, the finishing touches are all there. From the breakfast served in the lavishly designed dining room or the beautiful walled garden with various terraces and a plethora of fully stocked flower beds, to the tea and cakes throughout the day, what a find. We stayed in room seven which was on the upper floor, winding our way up the stairs through the panelled walls and artwork we reach the top floor and again, we're very pleasantly surprised, our room has a open vaulted ceiling with an array of exposed beams, a great use of space with an enormous rainfall shower tooked out of sight along with probably the biggest vanity unit I've ever seen. But without doubt the best feature sat before us was the truly massive double roll top bath. The room was light and airy with views all around of the old town, great access to all the locality has to offer and a supermarket withing a stones throw. A great place, we're already planning a return.

Lots of great things to say about this place. There was a place to store our bikes out in the garden, they provided us with a fan for our room as it was hot weather during our stay, there were hot and cold vegan options for breakfast which were delicious, the coffee at breakfast was brill, the building and garden were beautiful and well kept, we had an exterior key so could come and go as we pleased, and finally… the staff were all wonderful, from the owners to the restaurant staff to the housekeepers. Would 100% recommend.

The bathroom was a little cramped and water sometimes flooded out from the shower onto the floor by the toilet and sink - we just used towels to dry up each time

It is a cozy, small "family run" type of hotel. You immediately notice the engagement of staff. Very friendly and welcoming. A huge difference to the other bigger hotels I have stayed with, this trip. Use of communal areas after closing time of the café, is a big plus for small groups. You can meet/sit downstairs and don't have all to pack up in one of the rooms. Breakfast is freshly cooked to order, so no dry scrambled eggs and dito sausages. Just as you want it. You'll find a corner of continental offerings, in the breakfast room. So whilst you wait for your full english, you can already have a start with some yoghurt and muesli, juices.

What I did not like, but what I consider a big plus at the same time; the hotel has no bar/evening facilities. Sometimes you want to go down and enjoy a glass. They do recommend restaurants etc around the hotel, and are not shy to tell what they like and prefer. I personally love that. I had meals out on both nights and would go back any time to those restaurants.

I have stayed here before and would definitely stay again. All the team here are friendly and helpful. Attention is paid to detail, every guest receives a warm welcome, preferences around food and drinks are remembered. The rooms are spacious, well decorated, clean and comfortable. There is a great choice of freshly prepared breakfast items, all speedily prepared and served. The garden at the back provides a lovely space to have a quiet moment alone or to enjoy with friends.

It was cosy and clean.

The property was clean and the gardens were very pretty and well kept . The rooms were very comfortable and had everything we needed The Staff especially Karen who runs the hotel and Elaine couldn’t do enough for us during our stay . They went beyond to help us . The rest of the staff were also delightful and nothing was to much trouble . We would highly recommend the hotel to anyone thinking of staying in Newport .

Lovely warm welcome, comfortable room, everything I could ask for. Definitely coming back We cycled and enjoyed the Merstone meander, (kept our bikes in the back garden overnight) stopped for a picnic, would also be a lovely walk too. Can also enjoy Newport town, shopping and nice places to eat Stayed for breakfast, sat outside in beautiful walled garden, lush breakfast, again service was fantastic xxx

Great little hotel in central Newport- very handy for the town (Newport is surprisingly nice) & whole of the Isle of Wight. Grade 2 listed building so quirky eg stairs very narrow and winding so not easy with luggage, but hotel generally clean, very stylish (incl garden) and room was fantastic, with shower and bath (bath IN the room). Staff great and always on hand and helpful if needed. Little pricey but as a "boutique" hotel worth it. Overall highly recommended.

As an old building, don't expect everything to be in straight lines and at right angles! Narrow stairs and intruding beams, however, merely add to the character, I believe. However, being in a town, there is no parking , but parking can be pre booked about 100 yerds away for £7 a day or so.

Fantastic room, amazing breakfast, and lovely decor. Bed was super comfy, and the room was beautiful.

Lack of parking is a bit of a pain, but not the end of the world and no fault of the hotel. However a lock would've be nice on the bathroom door, they have magnets instead of latches, great idea to stop doors being banged shut and disturbing other guests but the wind from open windows kept pushing open the bathroom door
