The Woodvale

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel more than welcome from all the staff. Our room was ready 2 hours early. We enjoyed 2 fabulous meals in the bar/ restaurant downstairs. The breakfast was delicious and with the added bonus of selecting how we would like our eggs cooked and tailoring our breakfast choice of items.

Nothing.

It was booked as a surprise for my partners 50th. As soon as we turned the corner and saw it she fell in love and was so happy. From there on in it just got better. The sea was not too cold. We sun bathed oposite on the grass. We ate at the restaurant and the food was perfect, beautiful!! Room was amazing with sea views and the sunset was something to behold as was oposite the venue and all went down whilst we were eating! The room was lovely, the bed comfy, It was quiet and breakfast was perfect! The ferry from Lymington was a breeze and easy to find from the port. Would definately stay again!!

For me i have bad arthritis and we were put up the top and i did struggle with the stairs but that is all i can grumble about. Im sure had i asked they would have taken my luggage upstairs for me!! Thats it!!

Excellent location overlooking the Western end of the Cowes esplanade. Renowned for views of the sunset over the Solent, the "Solent Rooms" upstairs dining area offers a fine place to observe this spectacle. Evening meals in the downstairs bar were of a superb standard and the ale was kept very well. The room was spacious and comfortable. The shower had a good supply of hot water at more than adequate pressure. Facilities were maintained to a very high standard of cleanliness.

The TV remote control didn't work is all, so I just didn't bother watching TV. No great loss.

We were visiting friends who live in Gurnard and although we have been many times to eat at The Woodvale we have never stayed over before. We chose it this time for location. Being a pub, and out of season, I wasn’t sure what to expect but the staff were friendly and accommodated our needs, food amazing as always and views wonderful! The room was spacious and a great sized bathroom too! We will certainly stay again.

The hotel allows dogs which we didn’t mind but the room smelt a little because of this which may put some people off.

Good location. Rooms freshly and attractively decorated. Good bathrooms. Generous hospitality trays. Excellent housekeeping. Convenient to have the pub downstairs for food and drink. Breakfast served in the quiet function room with lovely views.

Bit of a climb to the rooms in the top floor. One of our party slipped on the stair carpet and twisted an ankle. One room much smaller than the other with no sea view, but no price difference, which other hotels might offer. Breakfast menu might usefully include options other than full English (with veggie/vegan options)- it seemed on our last morning that these were available but we were not aware.

The staff were phenomenal, they were nice, attentive and helpful. The room was very neat and clean! I get very stressed about things like that so I was very relieved and satisfied with the level of cleanliness! The pub below also quite cozy! The beach is literally in front of you and there was free parking in front! Convenient!

It is basic nothing to dislike, just if you’re expecting something special then you may be disappointed. But I found the simplicity of it charming in it’s own way.

The location is excellent, and meals very good. Staff friendly and helpful.

Would have liked the bedroom windows to open more. The room faces west so with hot sunny weather room gets warm. A fan is provided. Maybe some yoghurt or fresh fruit at breakfast too, but have no complaints about food served.

The breakfast was fantastic. The views are spectacular. You're pretty much on the beach! It is remote from town but we enjoyed the peace and quiet, and the half hour walk along the sea front to town was pleasant. Rooms were serviced everyday. The food in the bar was also great, and loads of seating if you fancy alfresco dining. The bar got busy (good atmosphere) around dinner but wasn't busy/noisy later on. The owner was around everyday, helped serve breakfast and was very pleasant. Lots of very hot water in the morning.

The bed was a bit hard for our liking, but others might like that. There isn't private parking; there is lots of free parking over the road and locally but it can get busy around dinner time. Rooms are on the second floor so two flights of stairs to go up (...fine by me, but some might not like this).

The breakfast, which was included in the price was exceptional. I had cereal followed by a full English, which was freshly cooked, good ingredients. Bottomless drinks on top was a bonus. The bar/restaurant was awesome. Good food. The sea view from our room and the bar was mesmerising.

The parking is on road but wasn't too much of a problem as there was always a space available.

Lovely pub with bar and terrace looking right out over the Solent. Situated at the quieter end of the Cowes esplanade. Plenty of parking and easy access to Cowes town. Comfortable room with Solent view. Great bar food and live music. Fabulous breakfast! Staff were excellent and everything was great. Highly recommended for an Isle of Wight weekend or holiday.
