BEST WESTERN New Holmwood Hotel

I stayed here for a long bank holiday weekend. For me the location was great - a short walk to the town centre and as it is by the seafront, the promenade popular for walking was just across the road. The room was a good size and everything in the room made my stay quite comfortable. What stuck out for me most was the team working at the hotel. Everyone from reception to housekeeping to the restaurant servers was welcoming, attentive, and really focused on providing guests with the best stay. I had both breakfast and dinner at the hotel for all of my stay - loads of choices on the menu and portion sizes were generous. I had not planned to have dinner every night at the hotel but enjoyed dinner there on arrival and I noticed other dishes I wanted to try so I kept going back.

There is nothing I didn’t like.

Well equipped comfortable room with good sea views. Friendly staff & excellent catering.. We could always park at the hotel & the location next to the promenade & 15 minutes walk from central West Cowes suited us well. The terrace facing the sea was a popular sheltered spot.

Increasing age with decreasing agility means a walk in shower cubicle would be better than a shower over the bath. As we ate at the restaurant 4 out of 5 evenings we felt that we had exhausted the menu so a 'specials' board would have been welcome.

The room was lovely, very clean comfortable. The bathroom was very clean, with great shower pressure and a quick filling bath. All the staff I came into contact with were very helpful. The breakfast I had was delicious!!! and a stunning location, had a really lovely stay.

I had no complaints at all about the hotel overall. I needed to leave early on both mornings of my stay (6am) and the person at reception was a little rude about needing to let me out without prior notice, but not a major issue, I learnt for the second morning :)

The breakfast was excellent, the staff were brilliant, the location was excellent, enjoyed sitting on the terrace watching the yachts, the evening menu was excellent and high praise should be given to 'Cathy' the restaurant manager who was attentive, funny and extremely helpful when my wife was unwell one evening.

Our only complaint, our room was at the back of the hotel, which was fine, we never asked for a 'sea view', but the building behind the hotel is a retirement home, and at about 5.00 every morning one of the female residents could be heard clearly, screaming for help, or food or water, this happened every morning and continued for an hour or more. This not only gave us an early start to our day, but we found it very distressing.

Breakfast is superb. excellent portions and beautifully cooked. Room was clean and comfortable, location wonderful with lovely views. Bar and restaurant excellent and reasonably priced. We will definitely be staying again.

Nothing really. We thoroughly recommend this hotel. If I had to say one thing the car parking is first come first served basis but in practice was not a problem even on a busy bank holiday weekend. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Room size and storgae space, comfort of bed. Helpful and professional staff at reception and in the restaurant. View from the terrace is amazing, close to town centre, ferry port.

Really just a small, first world thing, the water pressure in the shower wasn`t great and it took quite some time for hot water to start to flow from the shower. As I say, not even really an inconvinience, but I can imagine a lot of water is wasted just becuase guests are waiting for hot water to appear.

The location was epic, right in front of the sea. The restaurant/breakfast room has a great view of this. The staff was excellent, right from reception to restaurant staff and breakfast staff in the morning. The breakfast choices were better than other Best Western hotel I have stayed at, it was also cheaper. The room did not have a view but then nobody had told me that it would. The room itself was excellent, good space, comfortable, twin beds (I had booked a twin). They were even able to change my booking when I contacted them a day before. Very cooperative and helpful staff. If/when I got back to the Isle of Wight, this hotel would be my first choice to stay. Wifi speed was good and the password was told to me at the time of checking in.

Need to change that hand wash soap in the bathroom. All the hotels use it but it's messy, hard on the skin and smells yucky. A few more vegetarian options in the dinner menu would be good. Everything else was good, the hotel did exceed my expectations.

Splendid but we eat very little for breakfast.

Like so many hotels we have stayed in over many years, the FLIMSY standard of toilet roll needs a vast improvement. I know using cheap flimsy toilet roll helps owners to keep direct costs down, but it is false economy as a lot more paper is used. Far better for your image to install quality toilet roll like quilted cushelle or Andrew and you will have many more happy guest bottoms!!!

it’s location is exceptional and it’s food very good. the staff were friendly and helpful.

there were some large groups who required to be served in the restaurant at the same time. we feel that these groups should have been given an earlier or later time slot to avoid other guests needing to book a dinner slot and have to accept unwelcome time slots. otherwise, these groups or the other guests should have been segregated and served normally.

The view, the friendly staff and the location were very good. We didn’t eat there so cannot comment on the food but it seemed to be a popular place to eat.

The towels were not as absorbent as we would have liked. Also, the heated towel rail was off and we couldn’t find how to turn it on so that the towels would dry between use.
