An older property with fabulous original features. Sumptuous carpeting. Nautical themes throughout. Wonderful staircase. Brilliant sea view from our room. Breakfast was excellent! Plenty of choice.

The property is showing its age in places and would benefit from a coat of paint here and there, but the essential areas like bathrooms seem well maintained. The property is located outside Cowes on a hill but access into town via the garden makes things a lot easier. Getting back is a steady walk but pleasant enough. It has to be said that all roads out of town go up!

The Villa Rothsay is a beautiful hotel in an incredible location - we had a view out over the water so could watch all the boats go by, and it was just a few minutes' walk into Cowes for all the (excellent) pubs and restaurants. The breakfasts were delicious; the honesty bar was well stocked and in a gorgeous Victorian room full of sailing memorabilia, and the staff really could not have been more helpful and welcoming. I can't recommend highly enough and I really hope to return one day!

To be really, really picky, the en-suite door was a little stiff/loud to close, and so we kept it ajar at night to avoid waking people. But that is really the only thing that I could think of to mention!

When you walk through the front door, expect to be taken back in time by the interior… absolutely stunning! Margaret was very welcoming and couldn’t have been more helpful, offering lifts into Cowes when raining and kindly bringing our luggage down to The Redjet Terminal on our departure. Our bedroom, with amazing views over the Solent, was comfortable and clean. An exceptional breakfast was served in the downstairs dining room, again having fabulous vistas. There was a well stocked honesty bar located in the comfortable lounge. We couldn’t have asked for anything more during our short stay on The Isle if Wight…we will be back, thank you.

Breakfast was very good, something for everyone, good selection of cereals/granola/yogurt. Loved the decor of the property, so much to take in 😊. Our daughter lives in Newport, we visited last year and stayed one night, loved it so we returned. I’m sure we will be back.

The only thing for me which wasn’t great was that the bed was a little hard for me which meant not a great nights sleep. I appreciate this is always one of those hit and miss things, one size won’t fit everyone.

A truly delightful place to stay, a real step back in time with a treasure trove of wonderful artefacts. Peaceful, very quiet, very easy and we were looked after amazingly by Margaret the owner (who is also a fountain of knowledge about the IOW) and her team - and the breakfasts were incredible! If you need time-out to recoup and refresh, this is definitely the place to visit. Recommended without any reservations at all.

Great stay as always. We had the private dining room in the evening (group of 8) and the food was excellent, nice breakfast in the morning too. It's a fantastic property with a lots of character and lovely views overlooking the coast. The piano bar is a great touch too. I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else in Cowes!

Yummy nothing was too much trouble Excellent very friendly individual service and I felt as if I mattered to them. It was friendly attentive genuine without being stuffy Thank you I’ll come again

More central so you could walk back at night Taxi service in Cowes poor but the people are lovely and caring Murray’s fish restaurant took me home because I couldn’t get a taxi and their food was outstanding wonderful experience

It was traditional, quirky, unique. Dated without being out of date and old fashioned, historical. Mixed modern hotel needs with a traditional front rather well. Very well managed and run by Margaret, Jay and the team. The view from the balcony of our room over the Solent was special and worth the stay on its own.

Nothing. When you put it in the context of a modern new hotel there are things you could crib but that would be not to appreciate the total positive experience on offer here.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the hotel. The hotel owner was lovely and willingly shared her knowledge about the island. She was particularly kind to our young son and made sure our stay was comfortable. The hotel interior is delight with wonderful paintings, memorabilia and photographs of past sailing events on the Island. Our room was spotless and the sea view from our room was unforgettable. Breakfast was certainly a highlight with no food spared! We look forward to visiting this hotel again.

A warm welcome from Margaret the owner who gave excellent advice on places to eat and the local geography. Very clean property with distinct Victorian character, Excellent breakfasts thoroughly enjoyed by both of us. Great view of the Solent from our King Balcony room. We liked the idea of an "honesty bar" which we only had time to use once! Toiletries from Elemis were high standard too.
