Stopped just one night on our way to Cornwall, having visited nearby Killerton Hall. The pub is very old and low ceilinged down below with a lot of character and set back a little from the through road of Broadclyst. Our room upstairs (with a very high ceiling!) was small but clean and bright and everything worked. We enjoyed a pleasant dinner and hearty breakfast in the pub. Best of all though were the three ladies who served us during our stay. They couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. A credit to the pub. They also arranged for our bikes to be stored safely nearby overnight.

The rooms were great, we stayed with my mother and our 2 children, and the apartment was great for this. The bathroom was on the ground floor, which meant it was nice and accessible. The food was awesome, best compliments to the chef's and waiting staff. We had planned to eat at different places during our stay, but ended up having all our evening meals at the Red Lion. Although it was part of the pub building, we didn't hear any pub noise or disturbance, which was ideal.

If I had to be picky, the creaky floor boards were a little frustrating, but this is a very old and traditional building, so this was to be expected and didn't really cause too much hassle. Besides, its not like its an easy thing to solve in an old building like this.

My room was delightful and clean and I really appreciated the tea making facilities and the gorgeous shortbread. The Red Lion was perfectly placed for the wedding that I was attending. I enjoyed chatting to the staff at breakfast and was made to feel very welcome. It was excellent to have a key to the outside door which took the pressure off any time restraints to return in the evenings.

It would have been helpful to have slightly extended breakfast times on the weekend although I understand that it was difficult because of the number of covers they cater for at lunchtime. Similarly, it would have been good to have had a later check-out time on the Sunday given that I had attended an event the night before, but these were minor issues in otherwise excellent stay.

Location is in a quiet cul-de-sac, next to a church, so very peaceful. Also close to bus-stops, so getting into Exeter or Tiverton, is very easy. Bus Pass or £2.00 bus fares, bargain. Food was good at both dinner and breakfast. No problem choosing 3 different evening meals. Jess and Matt were excellent, as was the breakfast server. One waitress, did have a little bit of an attitude problem, which is why we've marked staff down. All staff worked very hard.

The Inn could do with some maintenance, especially the woodwork, which is rotting in places. Owners please note you are the custodians of a fine old building.

Everything 😊 from the pre-arrival chat with Matt. He contacted me to chat through my access concerns (due to my health) to the beautiful apartment - to the delicious Full English Breakfast, each morning. it was made even more special on our last morning as we were allowed to invite my sister and her husband (who live locally and were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary) to breakfast on our departure day. Ali (?) even served up sausages for Charlie (our dog). Top marks all round to all the delightful staff that we met. We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. 😊🥂👍🏼

Nothing to dislike 😊. Just a small thing from my point of view. I would have liked a privacy blind on the bathroom window. Even though it is frosted and is not overlooked - it would have felt more private for this particular lady 🤣 Also, again from a personal point of view - due to our health issues- the beautiful stone steps (7 of them) were particularly challenging, especially when it was raining. Thank you Matt for contacting me to discuss these and the stairs to the bedrooms. We appreciated just how considerate you were. 😊

They say you should not judge a book by it’s cover. I wondered what I had booked into when I walked in but everything about this place was wonderful. The staff were very friendly. My room was compact but had everything I needed and I had a great sleep. I had dinner which was a lovely meal and breakfast was delicious. I want to taxi to go into Exeter and the lovely lady order it for me and checked to see that it was coming when it had not come in time. My one regret is being from Australia I will more than likely never be back in the area to stay again.

Breakfast well cooked and presented. Happy to provide combinations not mentioned in the menu. Would prefer to be able to access juice, cereals yogurt without having to ask but staff most helpful when requested. Room good, bed comfy - had to ask for it to be refreshed but not a problem except we forgot the second morning. Plenty of tea, coffee etc in room and good over bed lighting for reading.

Meat in the Beef Bourguignon was a little tough but otherwise food of a very good standard. Large portions and some homemade sweets.

Excellent customer service from check in to departure- warm smiles from all of the inns team . Extra small additional items in our room made a real difference from the bottled water, good range of tea & coffee and home made biscuits & a very comfortable bed . One of the best full English breakfasts enjoyed by us both , local produce and such a treat , real fried bread ! Well we were on holiday! Thanks to everyone for going the extra mile and we will return.

One small suggestion perhaps a small night light or neon strip on the step up leading in and out of the bathroom .

Lovely old building in a nice village next to a interesting church. The location was good for visiting the area. The staff were welcoming & attentative & the food was good. The choice of vegetarian options was a bit limited. All in all it was a good choice to stay for a few days in that area. Breakfast was good with various choices available.

The bedroom was a bit small as was the bed for us. The ensuite whilst well done was a bit snug & was a bit awkward to use easily especially for my wife who has mobility problems. It was ok for a few days but not for a longer period.

Perfect for our needs. Bigger than i was expecting. Kitchen with hob (but no oven), toaster & kettle. Great shower room and shampoo supplied. Nice cushions and decoation in bedroom. Fantastic breakfast in the pub. Very friendly staff. Pretty village location. Small field to walk dog next door. Free parking in nearby pub car park. Jug of milk in fridge and a few kitchen basics - thank you.

The accommodation was great. Just a few imperfections: needs teatowel and cloths in kitchen, clock not working, tv remote not working well.
